My first bar of soap I made was melt and pour with oats. I just threw those oats in there and used the bar in the shower the next morning. OMG it felt like razors going across my chest! Lol but i was so damn proud I made the soap, it was hard for me to put down 😂 i learned my lesson. And if you want to sell your oat soaps and not get sued, PUT THE OATS IN A BLENDER lol
Louise you are such a sweetheart. I just love hearing you teach in that motherly and soothing voice of yours. I have learned a lot from you. Sending many many prayers, love and blessings your way. Peace
A lot of the things that you were saying I find myself doing. I ground up my lavender, and my carrot peel as well. I have learned within my two to three months of making melt and pour soaps that less is more. It feels good to know that what I'm doing is helping me make better product people will love.
I use to . At a Flea market , church, , Amazon, Etsy, Mercari, Poshmark, UA-cam,etc. I'm sure these places are besides church are going to want a fee. I hope this is helpful.
Hello, I just started watching your videos a couple months ago. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I love watching you. Your soaps always turn out nice and you're very informative. I learn more and more. I started making soaps around 7years ago. I've found that a little additional oil in the melt and pour base isn't bad. You can't put too much though or your soap will feel like a rubber ball and look like silly putty. Once I tried again with a tiny bit of oil I found my soap to be very creamy and lathered nicely. It's extra moisturizing too. You are right about those oats. I grind mine down into dust and then put it in the soap. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.😊
This video is what I have been looking for, thank you for sharing. I was making my melt and pour soap and it had little lather. Now I see why...I too test my soap before I think about giving it to anyone. My new Rule of thumb...Less is Better. Again, thank you for sharing.
First off, thanks for providing us all with this important information, I’m sure I can speak for everyone that it’s so nice of you to do this;) my question to you is, I purchased a lot of lavender buds, to get rid of them should I just use them as toppings for a soap loaf? Any input for you would be greatly appreciated, thanks I’m advance for your help and time 😊
Wow!! iv been watching soap making videos for 4 months learning and researching before making a loaf. Yours is the best I have found. Straight to the point and you give measurments lol, not just a little bit..how much is a little bit ?? lol. Thanks so much, one question, how much oils per ILb ? A little bit ? lol .thankyou X
Thankyou for all your tips and advice I’m new to soaping and have learned so much since subscribing and watching your videos and have seen an improvement in my soaps and have salvaged a batch because of your tips
When I’m not making cold process soap, I make Melt and Pour. My base does not contain SLS. I will not buy it if it does. I use colloidal oatmeal. I love it. 😊
Thank you so much! I wish I would have seen this video before I used waaaayyy too much shredded loofah last week and got a very scratchy soap! Luckily, it was just a small test batch but turned out unusable! Your videos are wonderful and each one really brightens my day!
Thank you so much for these videos on additives for melt and pour soaps. I learned so much by watching them. Im so happy I stumbled across your channel thank God and I am now a subbie. Cant wait to watch more. Thank you.
I really listened. I just have a question. I saw a video of a young lady who used a base, and she added like a teaspoon of glycerin. Will that effect it? Will it help? Sorry to bother you. I haven't done anything yet. But when I get some melt and pour I really want to know what you think. Thank you so very much for your in depth vid.
Hi there , What do you think about adding butters to your soap base in small amounts ? I love mango butter and have sensitive skin so I use sls free soap base and add a small amount to it. It doesn't change my base at all I've tested it a lot but I do wonder if it actually makes much moisturising difference to it or is it in my head because I love using it. Many thanks Laura xxx
Like I said in the the video it makes no sense to me, but go ahead and try it...butters and oils are the same amount 1 tsp per pound. Butters like Mango will harden the bar but you will loose lather if you use too much. Thanks for watching.
You might not be using the right glycerin soap, with that said there are many manufacturers that have different bases, not all bases are drying to the skin...you might want to try them all to find out, that's what I did. Yes you can add 1% to your base but your adding cost to your base & inventory if you don't have the oils or butters. Thanks for watching.
Would you use coffee ore tea grounds in your base? I read that the caffeine dehydrates fat cells, making the skin smoother. It's also used in de-puffing eye gels as a vasoconstrictor, to temporarily tighten skin and reduce dark circles.
Yes you can use coffee or tea grounds in your base....BUT making claims that it will cure puffy eyes or tighten skin is considered a cosmetic and must be reviewed by the FDA....be very careful if your making claims the FDA is watching. You are simply making soap a wash off product with additives. Thank you for watching if you would like more information google the FDA for soap and it will help you understand.
can you please send the link for the forum - cannot find it - thanks - I sent your link to a soap group that was asking about prices. THANKS FOR THE HLEP

I don't feel soap anymore.

This was excellent advice and needed to be said. You’re the first UA-camr that I’ve seen tell their audience less is better.
This is really good information and that 1 teaspoon per pound is great information!!!

One weird additive is sugar...
If you put to much oils in it you can add sugar to help it lather really really good. ☺
Sugar??
@sl4983 yes, sugar makes it lather
Please tell me how much sugar we should add in 100gm of soap

Oooo my goodness found you again been a few years love you videos ,,April 26 2021 😀💖😘🇺🇸
Amazing video. Very informational especially for beginners like me. Thank you!
Great and much needed information. I have had a few disasters because of too much additives. Thanks a lot!
What base do you like to use? Which base do you find most moisturizing?
You're AMAZING & Very informative!!! Thanks for sharing...🌺
Do you need to add a preservative when adding additives?
When I’m not making cold process soap, I make Melt and Pour. My base does not contain SLS. I will not buy it if it does. I use colloidal oatmeal. I love it. 😊
Can I use fruit powder in this?
Like beetroot powder.
Or spices like sandalwood powder or turmeric?
Yes. Just add a preservative to be safe
I think turmeric will react with soap and turn orange. Dont knw about beetroot powder
ItsQueen Babii pls share any preservative name
Thank you so much! I wish I would have seen this video before I used waaaayyy too much shredded loofah last week and got a very scratchy soap! Luckily, it was just a small test batch but turned out unusable! Your videos are wonderful and each one really brightens my day!
Yep, it only takes that little bit more to make it worse...use less and you will be happy with the results. Thanks for watching.
This is so informative, thank you!
Nice to hear a familiar voice... Your scale looks great for ten years, puts our newer ones to shame ; ) Thumbs way up for plug in too!

Can we add flours like rice flour and chickpea flour to melt and pour?
When adding additives such as turmeric is it still a teaspoon per pound
I'm so glad I found you. Thanks you so much

When you increase the glycerin, it is more moisturizing, but it also increases how much the soap will sweat.
It answered a lot of my questions. Thank you 🙏🏻 🙋🏻♀️xx
I enjoyed this video and appreciate the tips you shared.
Even for melt and pour you need a scale?
Love the advice
Thank you Louise. See you in the somp group!

What are your 2 favorite melt and pour base?
Can you use oat powder?
When you add charcoal in melt in pour, in your opinion, best way to mix it in. Do you use RA, Glycerin or dry then mix?
I mix charcoal with RA break up the clumps and pour into soap...hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

So true..you have to use your product to test it

Awesome info!
Thanks for watching.
Great info. What brand of base do you use?
SFIC, thanks for watching. All of my supplies are listed in our group, come join us on fb.
Can you share where you buy your soap base?
I buy direct from the manufacturer...sfic. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for lavender tips and oatmeal power, now does anybody really use soap covered with glitter.its pretty but a pain to wash off
when using glitter, use cosmetic glitter and it washes right off....regular glitter from the store does not work in soap making. Thanks for watching.
Thank you wow
Best advice: use your soap. I learned after I added whole oatmeal to mine. Ouch!
Oh and what about fragrance?
I know exactly what that means
Are you still here?
WOW No rose petals
Great info..thanks!
Thanks for watching.
