Majority of vets say cbd helps animals- veterinary information network survey - 79% of vets with clinical experience that have used cbd said it’s helpful for pain, over 62%said it was helpful for anxiety. Over 80% of those vets said there were no reports of adverse effects aside from possible sedation
A study published in Frontiers in Veterinary Science found that 82.2% of veterinarians agreed or strongly agreed that there are medicinal uses of CBD products for dogs from a medical standpoint.
What is cbd?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a compound found in cannabis that has been found to have many potential health benefits for dogs. It has been used to help reduce anxiety, improve joint health, and even reduce inflammation. However, it is important to consult with your veterinarian before giving your dog any CBD products.
Cbd product do not and legally should not contain thc, so it does not make your dog high. Also thc is super toxic to dogs and cats anyways so always triple check the ingredients. Also most cbd products are actually derived from hemp.
Benefits
First of all- the scientific definitive data is still early but there’s lots of promising anecdotal research studies. Since the risks, which ill talk about more later, are low and not serious, it’s still considered safe
Anxiety / stress- interaction on cbd with dog’s endocannabinoid system and it’s said that this helps with serotonin production and anxiety. I also read that cbd interacts with different receptors in the body which helps mood and anxiety. The research on exactly how it helps with anxiety is still not perfect and there’s room to learn, but the present findings are super promising with minimal risk
Seizures- source in description- study at Colorado state university- possible correlation between how levels of CBD with how great the seizure reduction was.
Some studies even mention a possible use of cbd for a replacement for seizure drugs but again, it’s too early to say that

Heart health- early research has shown cbd helps with heart health health because of the longterm anxiety benefits - normal heart rate and blood pressure
Help sleep
Decrease inflammation = overall better health
Appetite and nausea relief- increase ap, reduce nausea
Allergy relief - cbd found to help with allergies, again because of the interaction with the endocannabinoid system
Lots of owners have especially seen how cbd helps with skin allergies and skin health so it’s less itchy, inflamed
Use cases
What are some examples of when these benefits can come into play for your dog
Aggression- Improvement of Anxiety and stress therefore helps with Aggression ^^
Cancer pain / chronic illness- even though it doesn’t cure the actual illness, it helps alleviate the pain, stress, anxiety, discomfort associated
Sleep - usually if a dog has trouble sleeping at night or fully relaxing, cbd can address the majority of the underlying causes, which is usually anxiety stress fear pain or discomfort
Separation anxiety
Travel -planes =no sedation so cbd is perfect
Supplement epilepsy meds ( ask vet to double check)
Fireworks or storms
Risks
Healthwise- dry mouth is possible, lowered blood pressure can cause brief feeling of light headedness
Drowsiness -most studies say the most serious risk is that a too high dosage can sedate
Although overdose on cbd oil would require a crazy amount of cbd and some studies say even then, it wouldn’t be lethal, you should still never give too much. Always follow the proper instructions according to your dog ands their size
Other risks: there is a lack of regulation for cbd per products
Look for organic products
Always check ingredients - never with thc
Always research research research before buying
