    Yes but I don't want to carry around a can of peanut butter every time I want my dog to come to me. My dog is very sly. He comes when I have food and he never comes when I don't. I never had this problem with my previous dogs. He is my first spaniel. I have so many problems with him. I seriously think that he doesn't like me and I started to not like him either. Again, I have never ever had this with previos dogs. There was always love and attachment between my dogs and me. Do you think there is anything to be done here or should I start thinking about rehoming him? He is 7 months old.

    • @graciewellsdogtraining
      @graciewellsdogtraining 7 годин тому

      Fair enough about the peanut butter! However, i strongly encourage u to reconsider that point of view of mhe only comes to me for food’ This is super normal, ESPECIALLY for your dog who is still in his teenage phase! Probably the worst listening u will get out of that dog haha Think of it this way - the more times u reward with the annoying peanut butter u have to carry, or with the meat u have to buy, the better it gets. Eventually, science has proven that dogs can maintain behavior with the lottery system of rewards, so only getting treated every few reps. So, as proven, its not a permanent thing of having to carry those rewards. The most important thing for u in this situation is to not let your dog off leash tho. Like i say in the video, it sounds like your dog truly needs to be on a long leash whenever outside, unless youre in a fenced in area. When thehre in this teen phase, its super important to manage the environment (leashing), so they dont get into a dangerous situation when they dont listen. In terms of the bond, id suggest 1) doing more basic training, including recall, with lots of high value rewards. This is a proven way to improve the bond and the commmunication between you 2. 2) id start working on mentally enriching games / jobs with your dog. For example, scent work, or maybe even some puppy-safe agility (no jumping). I would also HIGHLY encourage you to get an in-person trainer! Id love to do it myself but i doubt we live close 😄 so id suggest book at least 2-3 sessions with a well-reviewed dog trainer in your area to assess the situation before you even consider rehoming, and talk to them intensivey about the rehoming situation too. There’s no shame in rehoming a dog, however, it should be the last resort as it seems you are familiar with dogs previously and your dog is only 7 months old, so it’s a pivotal time in their lives.

      @@graciewellsdogtraining thank you so much for taking the time to answer. We had trainers but they didn't seem to be getting anywhere with him. I truly never had a stubborn, independent dog like this. He not only doesn't come when called, he also doesn't want to be interacted with. Of course I never let him off leash. Even in our fenced in garden I need to keep him on a line otherwise he will never pay attention to me and will just fixate and bark at literally anything. I try to do training with him ever day but as soon as I run out of food he will not pay attention to me anymore. We also cannot go on walks every day because we live in an area where there are dogs in fenced in yards and he will tear my arm off barking and lunging at them so we cannot get to a park without me almost crying of disappointment. My previous dogs would just ignore the other dogs behind fences so this is very new to me. I will watch all of your videos to get some more encouragement :) Once again, thank you for the help!

    I have a 6 pound chihuahua mutt pup that jumps a lot, I wanted to not neuter him maybe forever. But the amount of humping and things I have to keep put away in the house has gotten out of hand.. he’s 9 months old. He also started getting super reactive and aggressive toward other dogs the last couple months.. I just dropped him off for a Neuter.. I’m so anxious.. I’m praying this helps.. I don’t want him to have problems. Or get more reactive. I’m so scared.

      Aw i can understand your fear and anxieties!! Now that your dog is in for neuter, trust that u made the right decision, and focus on helping him recover :) Since he’s already 9 months and hes such a small breed, hes prob fully grown or close to it, so its alreadyway better than neutering a young pup. But again, its done, socfocus on helping him recover! If the reactivity worsens, no big deal, training is possible to improve it a ton (i have a bunch of videos on this too :) ) If not, no harm no foul! Let me know how it goes and wishing a speedy recovery!

    Oh thanks for getting back. I’ve spoke with you before you’re a good trainer and you have border collies but I guess you should be very proud how far he’s come because he seems very sweet and maybe he was a very sweet dog that got attacked and then he gotreactive after that my dog just the opposite he was born hyper and reactive and overstimulated. He could’ve been the kind of dog that would probably bark and go after your dog so what are your thoughts about helping this kind of a dog?

    • @graciewellsdogtraining
      @graciewellsdogtraining 10 днів тому

      Thank you! :) for a dog that would bark and ‘go after’ other dogs, my first tip would be management to ensure everyones safety, aka keeping distance from other dogs on walks, keeping on leash, and probably using a muzzle if you live somewhere very populated For training, id focus immensely on counterconditioning and desensitization! I have some videos on this (titles will mention these or reactive dog training) But with a dog that ‘hates’ other dogs, while training could definitely go a long way in training a dog to not react so negatively to other dogs and bark and lunge and snap, it may never happen that the dog enjoys engaging or playing with other dogs, and that’s ok!! Just like some humans are more introverted than others, some dogs prefer not to engage with other dogs. For safety, don’t let your dog greet other dogs without muzzle or at all if your dog definitely doesnt like them Hope this helps! :)

  • @watchmoivies123
    @watchmoivies123 13 днів тому

    This was good, but all dogs are different and your dog doesn’t seem to be reactive or stressful that much We just have to go very slow and work with the dog we have as another trainer says let’s train the dog in front of us

    • @graciewellsdogtraining
      @graciewellsdogtraining 13 днів тому

      100% every dog is different, and training should be tailored to that specific dog! But, i wouldnt say my dog isnt reactive or stressful! At his peak reactivity in the first 2 years after getting attacked, he was at an 8 or 9 out of 10 on reactivity. After 1-2 years of training, hes now at a level 3 or 4 on a bad day

      Sure, dogs cant just do whatever they want. But exactly, they are an ANIMAL; a well-researched animal at that! Agree to disagree! Its been proven that brushing teeth is a great way to prevent dental problems in dogs. Sure, some breeds and some individual dogs are more or less prone to plaque buildup / diseases, and diet is a HUGEEEEEEE part of it. However, its super important to brush teeth especially if theres no natural tooth cleaning going on (thru eating bones, barf, etc)

I haven't used toothpaste in 5 years and my teeth and gums are immaculate. I grew up with dogs my whole life and my parents never brushed their teeth, never gave them "vaccines" and never took them to the vet. We took them hiking or to the beach everyday. This was very good and I just have to say my thoughts about neutering male dogs. I know there are so many dogs in the shelters and the reason for that is because people are irresponsible and a lot of people let their dogs breed so they can make even 25 $30 a puppy I feel as though that’s why the shelters have a lot of dogs because the people down south and over west, keep reading and they make money believe it or not and I’m not saying making money is wrong. I don’t like what some people do and then the shelters come in and buy these puppies for for a cheap price. I also believe that if you are totally a responsible person, then you should never knew your dog just look at people. Men don’t get neutered and I know there could be a chance of certain cancers, but there is for people to and so I believe something like testosterone cancer the minute something came up then you could new to your dogand then it’s all gone but a hole I believe in your dog a whole dog I feel as though it’s 100% more healthy for your animal all around

      You know I take that back about all people down south that’s not true but I’m just saying where I live in Connecticut. The cause of plaque buildup is feeding your dog high carb foods. Carbs are related to all kinds of food related issues. Carbs can lead to insuline resistance, just like it does in humans. Insuline resistance is related to heart disease. Just feed your dog real dog food (meat) and not something from a package that is labeled dog food, while containing mostly rabbit food.

    There are some research studies showing the side effects of neutering the dog after about 6-7 years. Honestly, hormones do a lot of things in humans, as well as dogs. Like a woman who went through menopause, how many problems it would cause in a woman body afterwards. Similar idea in dogs. I also have a friend who is a veterinarian, she said she regrets on asking her patients to spray and neutered their dogs. One thing I just don’t understand, humping, peeing everywhere, being aggressive is what dogs are supposed to be, people should know this better when they get a dog. By neutered them, doesn’t really help them, but just helping selfish lazy human to make things easier. Also you are lucky, I have two friends, their dogs passed away on the surgery table.

He's fear-reactive towards people (ESPECIALLY people acknowledging/looking/smiling at him), dogs, bikes, scooters and sometimes prams. It kills me when people scold that I'm 'not strict enough with him', it feels like a slap in the face despite the fact I know they're wrong. So I looked into it and I believe coconut oil with a little bit of baking soda and the baking soda will be the thing like an enzymic toothpaste and that’s what I’m gonna do I think because I don’t wanna give that other stuff because it’s got two things in it and one of it sugar and the other one isxylitol

    Oh yes, just type her in to UA-cam or even on the Internet she’s wonderful. Can I ask what you feed for dog food? I am on a raw diet. They say it’s the best and I have Border Collie also, they’re just the greatest.

    Thank you very much for getting back, but I really don’t think my Vet will know much about it. They’ll probably say that the orbitals is OK in small amounts. Do you listen to Dr. Karen! Becker?

    OK about the finger brush I’ll go type in silicone finger brush on Amazon. Please keep me posted with any toothpaste that doesn’t have those two ingredients in it in the last email thanks.

    Good morning thank you for the ingredients. I don’t like sorbitol either. It could cause stomach upsets and it’s a little bit toxic to dogs to me and also I don’t like glycerin because that’s a type of sugar. If you know of any others that don’t have either one of these items in there, let me know. Thank you so very much.

      Thats fair! I can relate to not liking non natural ingredients. I dont know too much for more natural alternatives at the moment, but pls talk to your vet im sure they wil have ideas, and if i discover anything i will let u know !

    This is an excellent video, but I’ve looked for many many years for a good toothpaste for my dog and I don’t like xylitol and I believe that’s in this one that you’re using would you let me know? Maybe they’ve changed it and also I think the best to use is coconut oil I’ve gotten that from Dr. Karen! Becker do you listen to her, so let me know about the toothpaste that you use don’t want any xylitol or even sorbitol? I don’t like that either. I think the xylitol is worse thank you very much.

      Hi! Thanks for the kind comment!! Yes coconut oil is also a great natural alternative, but to prevent plaque buildup the best, its best to use a vet-approved enzymatic toothpaste to my knowledge, but theres also evidence that shows coconut oil works plenty so pls ask your vet ! This one is the Virbac CET tooth paste, as far as i know, no xylitol! From the website…. ACTIVE INGREDIENTS: Sorbitol, Purified Water, Dicalcium Phosphate Anhydrous, Hydrated Silica, Glycerin, Poultry Digest, Dextrose Xanthan Gum, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Thiocyanate, Glucose Oxidase, and Lactoperoxidase. May contain phosphoric acid.

    How old was he when you neutered him and I totally disagree with you. I believe that they should stay intact but that’s just my thoughts and what I’ve gone through with about four or five different males and I do have border collies also so I feel as though they’re healthierintact, but how old was he? I hope he was at least three or four.

    I have to stay off of so much of UA-cam about dog training because of all the aversive methods and their defenders.

      I totallt get it! It honestly impacts my mental health seeing how aversive dog trainers have such large audiences and people believe them. But, im hoping i can convince even just a few dozen people with my videos to go without aversives :)) thank u for watching!

    My sons king Charles cavalier is so badly matted. He refuses to let us groom him . Hes mean and growls at us. What do we do? The groomers dont even want to deal with him. Its bad. The matts behind his ears are like baseballs. Have no idea what to do. Help!!!

    • @graciewellsdogtraining
      @graciewellsdogtraining Місяць тому

      Aw thats such a hard situation! Id definitely consult your vet for immediate solutions as it sounds like hes very aggressive when it comes to trying to groom him. In the longrun, definitely work with a dog trainer 1-1 to countercondition them to be able to groom, and invest in a muzzle for grooming to be safe!
