  • Each year on November 15, Australia Zoo's Steve Irwin celebrated the birth of his dear friend Harriet, a 175 year old tortoise from the Galapagos Islands. She was a much loved member of the Irwin family and held a very special spot in Steve's heart.
Since then, today has become a global celebration for Wildlife Warriors everywhere, and a most special day at Australia Zoo.
Today, Australia Zoo remembers an extraordinary man that was larger than life. A man that could light up a screen with his energetic bursts, warm the hearts of millions with his words of inspiration and encourage others to feel for our precious wildlife. Most of all, we remember a family man who was genuinely loved by the world for being true to himself and truly making a difference, by living out his dream.
This Steve Irwin Day, the Zoo is celebrating Steve's passion for wildlife and wild places. Now more than ever, it is critical to protect our precious wildlife and their important habitat for generations to come. Australia Zoo believes We are each Wildlife Warriors and they will continue to honour Steve's legacy and believe in positive change for our world.
Award-winning country musician Troy Cassar-Daley also left his mark on Australia Zoo’s ‘Walk of Fame’ before performing for the opening ceremony in the Crocoseum, followed by the Irwins feeding the crocs in the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors show.
