I always fieldstrip my gun when I come back from hunting. Here in Portugal we do a lot of upland bird hunting so the main thing I do is just taking off the barrel or barrels and clean it inside and out. Then I peace a thin film of oil on the metal parts before putting the gun in the safe. When it rains however, we remove the barrel and even the trigger assembly to make sure everything is nice and dry. Then we clean and oil the parts
I hunt in saltwater. I made a cream of Ballistol and beeswax which I apply a few times a season like car wax. Works better than anything I’ve found to prevent/control rust.
Bob, put some anti seize on the choke tube threads. I Also put a little in the choke tube bore where there isn’t threads. That’ll stop the rust on that area.
Thanks for the reminder to even the pro's out there. After 54 years in manufacturing, design & Quality Assurance, one of my favorite things to do on a rainy or snowy day when I don't want my "feathers" ruffled is to take down & reassemble my armory items. I always appreciate the precision & accuracy with which these things are held to during the processes. It really warms my heart to own such well made "machines"!!!
I've had guns since the 70's that have _NEVER_ rusted. Back then, we used polished up guns with fancy wood to hunt ducks and geese. They are still in very good condition today. It was a simple rule, (still is) if you wanted your gun to look nice, (which we all did) you kept it clean. That means clean and oil after every use. You didn't set them in the corner when you got back before wiping them down first. That's why the good old guns from back then, are still "good old guns" today.
@@BeatRock253 No, but I know what you're talking about. I've seen cars from the coast lines, and they are ate with salt rust. But then a Gun isn't a car. Keep it clean and oiled, even in salty conditions.
Definitely a great reminder for everyone to take care of their investment and their hunting and shooting tool. May not have to take it apart every time but at least wipe it down as you suggested. I remember having to dip it in a gun cleaning solution and wiping it off after EVERY hunt while we were in Alaska. Spraying out the action to get the salt and sand from the eel grass we were covered up in. 🦆🦆🦆 I am still waiting and looking to see the gift 🎁 that I sent you as a thank you 🙏 gift for the trip of a lifetime, hanging up on a wall somewhere in the lodge. Random question. Where do you get your taxidermy done? You have some beautiful mounts. I’m over in Missouri and good duck taxidermy is hard to come by. Do you send/take yours to South Dakota or somewhere north?
Love the content and cant wait till hunting season starts back. Bob with the Good Good t-shirt on. Are you a golfer and will we ever see Bobby Guy on a golf course vlog?
You should take a look at the Fabarm XLR5 Waterfowler. It’s camo dipped/cerakoted receiver but they left the rib black! Plus the rib extends all the way down the receiver. Best sight picture on any waterfowl shotgun I’ve seen. Everything on that gun is also stainless steel, chrome/nickel plated, Titanium nitrided, etc. Very high quality machining/materials/finishes. It’s an under-known but excellent shotgun. Very happy with mine.
@@benblazek3305 Ducks ain’t that big, couldn’t care less about 3.5”. You’re either on the bird or you’re not. It’s an incredibly well designed and built shotgun that cycles the hottest 3” down to light 7/8oz target loads with lower recoil than most and an incredible simple and easy to clean piston design. The extended rib is beneficial and gives a sighting plane similar to a competition Over/Under. Go take apart a Fabarm and compare it to a Maxus II or A400 Plus and you’ll see noticeably higher quality machining and simpler design in the Fabarm.

Simple trick to avoid a stuck choke entirely, when you take the choke out lubricate the threads with oil. Will never get stuck again.
