I used to live there as a teenager in the 80's for a few years. Before I could even ride a bike. Mom owned a hairdressing salon on the parade, which turned into a biker clothes shop when it closed. Best place to grow up if you liked bikes, fish n chips, and arcade games. Happy times.
Matlock Bath is the place to be for bikers akd ALWAYS has been. The chips, the river, the views and the pubs. All drivers know how busy it gets amd still drive in! As for yhe traffic wardens they are seriously deluded because this is BIKER TIME. ❤
I enjoyed that, thanks. I used to have a ride there years ago, when i lived in Huddersfield, then i heard they were introducing parking charges for bikes and never went back. Them traffic wardens looked a right pain.
Great video thank, I love the older bikes the most. Had to pause my sweep through at the GT750, beautiful bike. Now, has Amy got any sisters, as she is one gorgeous lady 👍🏻
It’s always been like this even since I first when over 20 years ago, the locals expected it, it’s the people that go cars that have a nightmare. It’s a great buzz for the bikers but I normally go in the week when it’s quiet.
Yip. Stick to the rural fast roads away from all the madness. A ride out isn’t comfortable or fun with so many riders and bikes all in one place. Too many variables to deal with regarding other riders experience.
@@thatbikersimonI first went 45 years ago on my AP50, with my mate who was on his Fs1e. We loved it cos it was like a free bike show. Well said, this only happens on a nice sunny day or a bank holiday but there’s mixed feelings about it. I thinks it’s a great atmosphere.. apart from the wardens of course 😎

If you came in from the opposite direction, tailbacks start some 3 miles from town center. Matlock is the last place i would go on a bank holiday. Well, any day, actually.
It is a must go at least once to experience it, the scooter boys have a beat the biker weekend when they are millions of Lambrettas, the air is absolutely full of two-stroke they will queue up outside and then go in in one massive convoy

Great video from you and your good lady, nice to see a lovely variety of bikes and their owners. Not been to Matlock bath for many years so good to see it again.
It's fantastic to see so many bikes & bikers, just shows we are a long way from dead yet no matter what the stats on declining numbers say. Thanks Simon Amy another good one. The business owners need to get together and get the council to allow more parking areas. Where they were parking illegally didn't look to me like it was causing a problem.
Thank you, yes I agree it’s only needed on a bank Holiday or a Sunday weekend. Out of Season it quiet there, but let’s face it, it happens all over the country 💰
Too busy for me Simon. Nice piece to camera from Amy. Thanks for taking us along. Great weather this week for taking our bikes out. Is summer finally here? 😀
Been going there since the mid 1990s...still enjoy it today, busy or not. Jubilee Bridge, that you can see in the background, is where I got down on one knee and proposed to my better half.....she even said yes....huge relief as it was late at night and a local gang of teenagers were waiting for me to finish so they could cross over 😂 Also worth a shout out to Spire Leathers that you walked past....Jane in there does awesome leather repair or reworks at very good prices!
That sounds an awesome memory and it’s great to get local knowledge, and the leather repair is definitely worth knowing about. It’s been a trip Down memory lanes for a lot of people, myself included 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Matlock Bath has hardly changed in fifty years, it was a mecca for bikers in the late sixties, Bonnevilles. Rocket Threes, Honda fours, Velocette Thruxtons etc, the only real change has been the cable cars up to The heights of Abraham. There was a nice zoo at nearby Riber Castle.
An excellent video! Matlock Bath is a famous inland resort. It is a bit tacky for sure and does get very busy/noisy on a warm sunny day, especially at weekends. If you like Blackpool and motorbikes, you'll love Matlock Bath. In the autumn they have the Matlock Bath illuminations, nowadays a somewhat watered-down version of the fantastic events my parents took me to in the 1950s/early 60s. But still a quite magical experience to walk through the lights and illuminated features along the far river bank at dusk. Maybe they've finished now? Last time I went was 2007. Some great bikes on show there, but my favourite feature of the video - the lovely Amy, what a beautiful lady! Cheers...... PS. And remember, she's 5' 4", NOT 5' 2". 🤣
Thanks for the comment. I’ve been Matlock Bath many times over the last 30 years of my biking career, it still amazes me and that people you see who have never been before are totally unaware of what’s there. One old lady once asked me why are there so many bike here and I said I don’t know they always come here 😂
great to see lots of 125cc bikes there too. I ride one and I simply cant wait to pass my test. in the mean time I enjoy finding out about the bikes that are available
60 years ago for me, 17 years old on my Norton domi 99, took a similar time from Borrowash, always hoped that Whatstandwell Bridge s bend would be clear on the way in to do a bit of showing off cranking over as low as possible. Fantastic times and memories😊
I was amazed to see on the facebook groups that the council had been fining bikers on the pavements I totally understand if they are blocking the pavement but the Motorcycling community brings in so much revenue for Matlock and the surrounding areas the local council need to acknowledge that if the motorcycle community didn't visit in there masses it's most likely Matlock Bath would be whet it is. And many of the shops etc wouldn't be able to stay open
Yes I totally agree, the problem is with the wardens is they just have one rule in which they have to follow. There’s no common sense and understanding. If a bike is not blocking or causing a issue they it should be left alone, but I guess they just get told what to do. 👮
Hello Simon & Amy, thank you for that very nice video discovering Matlock Bath! A special thanks to Amy for the historic view. I'm glad to know about Amy's évolution like a biker. Very good looking city with a motorbikes culture in Matlock Bath. If one day i come to UK, i keep i mind coming to Matlock Bath.
So we were there that weekend, a camping trip from Norfolk. We actually walk past at 15:30 2 chaps in caps walking on the road . The lady who owned the leather repair shop said you can park at the top end of town for 1 hour then the road next to the leather shop is a divide and you can park at that side for an hour. Strange system but that’s why we were about to move the bikes while our other friend had some leathers altered
Well it’s a hour from when they take your number plate, I think the wardens were that busy on the opposite side of the road they did get time to monitor the correct side 😂 glad I got you in the shot 👍
The bike Mecca! was there in the 80's and 90's. Saw the Empire Strikes back and Flash Gordon at the cinema, sadly no longer there. Stopped in on the way back from Wales last year for pie and chips.
Matlock is local to me always end up there nearly every time I go out on the bike. Ok parking on the side of the riverside. A traffic warden told me. Can't give a ticket while parking there. Good video. Just subbed.
Thanks buddy glad you enjoyed it. It’s always been a favourite of mine, I genuinely go in the week when it’s quieter but I can’t resist a crazy bank holiday ride it’s a get buzz when the sun is shining 👍
Many thanks for the interesting commentary, nice to see so many different bikes! the ultra chromed Honda I think this is a US import, a Honda Valkyrie apparently one of the best and accomplished customs from over the pond if memory serves me correctly? The last time I was there in Matlock was probably twenty years ago and on a sunny day during late May it was just as busy if not more so.
Loads of nice bikes there but I really liked the hyabusa with the blue and white Suzuki faring kit. And the guy you talked to about having the comfy ride that was a nice bike too
Stumbled on this one, thought I'd give it a view as I sometimes get down there. I came to the view that 1, you're a ducati fan (fine, each to their own!). 2, you have little motorbike knowledge! So many interesting bikes over 5 years old and no comment!
Great video mate .... especially as i couldnt make it over the bank holiday !....I generally go in the evening midweek now ...bit quieter and not so difficult to park.
Just stumbled upon your channel. Very smooth editing and good camera work, very professionally done Simon. I've always loved bikes but never owned them. Used to ride friends bikes in the 80s/90s but just never got around to actually doing it legit! My old man was a Hells Angel so it's in my blood, maybe one day! Anyway, great video and some lovely bikes on show. I might just subscribe! 😉👊
For one reason or another I no longer ride. But I still love the culture. One thing I have never found out is why Matlock is such a mecca for bike/bikers.
Not GSXR Double R. It's a GSX1300R Hayabusa gen 2. Anyway, great vid, love your close ups of bikes and brief chat with the owners. Thanks to both of you for the effort.👍
I went to Matlok bath about 30 years ago on my new 125cc two stroke screemer. I talked to a bunch of dudes outside the Fishpond pub and one of them let me ride his K1300 six pot bangger just because I said I didn't think I could. I will still have a cheeky pint in the rose and nod my head at the Fishpond but I have no room for the show ponies.
I remember our English teacher Mr Skillington taking us on an outing to Matlock when I was in year 9(13)…there was one cafe…what on earth has this become!😱…it was such a pleasant tranquil curve of the river….should you all be in Great Yarmouth in the arcades?😂
It used to be end to end bikes on the Esplanade and never any cars parked, but now cars park and parking enforcement is now the norm on Sundays. I'm glad I no longer go to the Bath
They want to have a bike day 1st Saturday of each month, close it off. £5 each bike, funds go to a different local charity each month. More people go, the more money goes into local businesses. Everyones happy. The council should see visitors as an asset, if there is a parking issue, get some volunteer marshals parking people up.
"Hell on bike" Why?? I've visited this place thousands of times. There's nothing worse than having no bikes parked along the road. Love the commotion on a weekend (it's only for this stretch of road and it clears out the moment you've passed it) PS I'm sure the local businesses agree with me too 😉
I live a few miles from Matlock Bath. My weekend and BH riding is done and dusted by 9am. I avoid it like the plague! As for the locals, they hate motorcyclists. I know we aren't popular anywhere, but it's real hatred around here. You won't notice it on a busy Sunday etc, as bikes outnumber cars. But ride in the area 7 days a week and you definitely bear the brunt of it. To be honest, a certain percentage come here, dick about, bounce it off the limiter from the lights with open pipes etc. A bit of common sense would help, but it's never going to happen. Police don't want us here either. Regular stops for cans, plates etc, whilst ignoring cars with illegal plates. Masson Mills and Whatstandwell bridge on the A6 are regular bike check/stop places.
That’s doesn’t surprise me at all, old people generally like moaning about everything it comes with age lol. I get the same around here with the race track. They buy a house near a track then moan about the noise 😂 as for the police its a worthless job nowadays the same as the wardens.
I live in Matlock Bath. Yes, I also ride (new to bikes, have a BMW 850 GS) but people rev bombing through out the day gets annoying. I tend to go over the hills towards Winster...always nice and quiet on the hill tops
Love Matlock mate. It is literally like the Seaside but without the Sea. We're actually thinking about taking the girls the for 5-6 days at some point. Plenty to do there.
@1:38 that’s me and my dad on the right lol! Yeah the traffic wardens are a nightmare. Everyone has a job to do. But to do that job is beyond me. Can’t just let it be for that one day. They earn more money in tickets than car parks anyway so there you go…
I am a former resident of Matlock, and sadly the locals don't have a good opinion of the bikers, hence the number of traffic wardens, and you're right, they take no prisoners. Such a shame too, because the tourists contribute hugely to the local economy and employment for the very same locals who want to keep the stunningly beautiful area for themselves. Sadly this is how the local inbreds are.
Thamks for the information that’s interest to know. It’s the same in a lot of old towns, I live in Loughborough and locals here moan about students but the uni is the biggest employer of the town, no uni no town 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Been a local for over 50yrs and the bikers were always welcome.Unfortunately as with many small towns/villages the locals have been displaced by rich out of towners who object to everything and everyone.
I am a biker and live in Derbyshire and why anybody wants to go to Matlock bath on a Sunday or bank holiday is beyond me.
Well I think people like go to because it’s crazy, but I personally only go once a year
Yep. Stopped going when it got too busy. That was about 30 years ago.
@@Martyn-Jones how long has it been going for? As a biker hub?
you go , look at the bikes have some chips and move on
It must leave some empty roads at least.
My idea of hell on a bike, luckily I have Northumberland and the Borders to enjoy as my back yard. Some lovely bikes there though….
Sounds great! Matlock is a crazy place in a bank holiday weekend I generally go in the week when it’s quiter.
Fully agree. I live on the North Wales borders and there seems to be an obsession with some to visit the same haunts using the same busy roads.
Totally agree
Yes..with guaranteed speed traps everywhere...@@rogerramjet5302
But the roads that surround Matlock are some of the best biking roads in the UK.
My idea of a complete nightmare of a ride out.
Normally I would say the same but it’s great to see all the different bikes out
It’s great to see all the bikes and chat to the bikers, when you can no longer ride.
Absolutely! A great place to visit
Matlock is a great place to visit. It’s been a biker spot for generations. It’s also in ‘ Places never to visit’ on a bank holiday.
Yes the chips are great though 👍

Stumbled on this one, thought I'd give it a view as I sometimes get down there. I came to the view that 1, you're a ducati fan (fine, each to their own!). 2, you have little motorbike knowledge! So many interesting bikes over 5 years old and no comment!
Thanks for the comment, I’m still working on it and learning 👍
@@thatbikersimon Every day's a school day!
Thanks for sharing your fun day out. Can't wait to get my bike out soon. :>)
Any time! Glad you enjoyed it. Happy riding 🏍️💨💨💨💨
Lovely video…… Amy B looks stunning 😊
I think so too! 😂👍
Great video mate .... especially as i couldnt make it over the bank holiday !....I generally go in the evening midweek now ...bit quieter and not so difficult to park.
Thanks, yes I generally ride during the as well, but it was nice to catch the madness on the bank holiday. 👍
Thanks for watching much appreciated and there’s plenty more content to come 🏍️💨💨💨
Incredible bikes, not too far from me, I will have to go soon.
Go for it buddy 👍
Great video and excellent drone footage.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks
For one reason or another I no longer ride. But I still love the culture. One thing I have never found out is why Matlock is such a mecca for bike/bikers.
Hi, Matlock tends to a hub for the Peak District plus plenty for fish & chips for the bikers
Not GSXR Double R. It's a GSX1300R Hayabusa gen 2. Anyway, great vid, love your close ups of bikes and brief chat with the owners. Thanks to both of you for the effort.👍
Thanks for the info! Glad you enjoyed it buddy 👍
Might be away from the coast but it is still a Spa resort hence the seaside feel
This is correct 👍
I went to Matlok bath about 30 years ago on my new 125cc two stroke screemer. I talked to a bunch of dudes outside the Fishpond pub and one of them let me ride his K1300 six pot bangger just because I said I didn't think I could. I will still have a cheeky pint in the rose and nod my head at the Fishpond but I have no room for the show ponies.
Brilliant story 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Thank you Simon for appreciating Royal Enfield thanx pal 🇬🇧❤️
Your welcome 🏍️💨💨💨💨
Rode through there once on our way to snake pass on our way to Scotland yep the long way round , was much ,much quieter 😊
What a great ride 👍
Been there a few times on a stroke ride out. Lovely place. Usually go to monsal head too👍😎
Nice buddy, I’ve been around the Monsal it’s great.
There's some really cool bikes out there. 🔥
A great mix of bike 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Excellent video Simon!
Many thanks! 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Great video and amazing bikes never seen any Yamaha fjr 1300 bikes
Yes there’s certainly some nice bike for sure 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
That Honda was amazing.
It sure was
I remember our English teacher Mr Skillington taking us on an outing to Matlock when I was in year 9(13)…there was one cafe…what on earth has this become!😱…it was such a pleasant tranquil curve of the river….should you all be in Great Yarmouth in the arcades?😂
😂👍
I believe that leak is of my gsr 600. Is was from the overflow 😊
Oh well thanks for owning up to it 😂👍🏍️💨💨💨👍👍
It used to be end to end bikes on the Esplanade and never any cars parked, but now cars park and parking enforcement is now the norm on Sundays. I'm glad I no longer go to the Bath
Thanks for the comment, I didnt know that 👍
They want to have a bike day 1st Saturday of each month, close it off. £5 each bike, funds go to a different local charity each month. More people go, the more money goes into local businesses. Everyones happy. The council should see visitors as an asset, if there is a parking issue, get some volunteer marshals parking people up.
Sounds like a plan 👍
OK block off the main road for all the residents...... idiot
@@thatbikersimonIf you have researched Klaus Schwab and visited the WEF website, you'll know that they have a very different plan for us all.
“Original Rocket 3” that would be a BSA then!😊
Correct 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨
Been there, wouldnt bother again!
Why it’s fun? 🏍️💨💨💨💨💨
"Hell on bike" Why??
I've visited this place thousands of times. There's nothing worse than having no bikes parked along the road. Love the commotion on a weekend (it's only for this stretch of road and it clears out the moment you've passed it)
PS I'm sure the local businesses agree with me too 😉
Very true 👍
Speeding, riding dangerously, and when the enviable happens the roads are closed for hours to pick up the bloody body parts
I live in Matlock Bath. Yes, I also ride (new to bikes, have a BMW 850 GS) but people rev bombing through out the day gets annoying. I tend to go over the hills towards Winster...always nice and quiet on the hill tops
@sobek good comment. That's my approach to motorcycling - get away to where it's quiet and empty.
Try the Aprilia Tuareg mate... petrol tank low down and cruise control for sensible money 👍
I’m definitely going to ride one at some point 👍
@@thatbikersimon definitely an "under the radar" bike 👍
Love Matlock but wouldn't go on a bank holiday! 😵💫😆
I know what your saying 👍🏍️💨💨💨
it used to be amazing back in the 90s and early 00s - ruined now, speed traps everywhere and just too many people
Yep I total agree
Love Matlock mate. It is literally like the Seaside but without the Sea. We're actually thinking about taking the girls the for 5-6 days at some point. Plenty to do there.
there*
Fantastic. You should there’s some great walks and rides
That looks like a nightmare to me..Bank Holiday is stay at home and have a few drinks with friends and family..
You can do that in the afternoon after the ride 😂🏍️💨💨💨💨
I lived there when I first got married,in 1981 , it was great then . Would not go back there on my bike now
It was the early 90s when I was first riding there on my RD350 ypvs it’s nice to see so many different bikes but it’s a bit crazy now
Aesthetic and Very Beautiful
Thank you 😎
I actually had a Beezer couple of days in Matlock!
Wicked 👌
Great video (subscribed) 👍
Thanks for the sub!
The Yam FJ outside the Rose is the Daddy, and you missed it!.
I did see it 🏍️💨💨💨
@1:38 that’s me and my dad on the right lol!
Yeah the traffic wardens are a nightmare. Everyone has a job to do. But to do that job is beyond me. Can’t just let it be for that one day.
They earn more money in tickets than car parks anyway so there you go…
Fantastic, glad I got you in the shot 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Gosh at 8:40 I saw my bike. Honda 250 Super Dream bought in 1981 SLC910W
Excellent 👌
The suzuki gsxs125cc is my baby they were talking about 😊
Hey that’s fantastic. Good bike 👍
“Think this group of bikers in front of me, come as a group?” 🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Say what you see 👀 😂
I am a former resident of Matlock, and sadly the locals don't have a good opinion of the bikers, hence the number of traffic wardens, and you're right, they take no prisoners.
@@thatbikersimon It's a small world...I left Matlock and ended up in Markfield...
Been a local for over 50yrs and the bikers were always welcome.Unfortunately as with many small towns/villages the locals have been displaced by rich out of towners who object to everything and everyone.
@@jamestravis7340 The complaints I alluded to came from Matlcok through and through residents.
@gumbo7215 "It comes across as selfish"...as does your opinion.
