  • This video is to show how to plant Paw Paw saplings from the specific tap root pots I choose to grow with. A long strong tap root insures a healthy Paw Paws optimum grow. Make sure to water the saplings for the first several years and once established they'll explode with growth. You'll only need to water after that during droughts.

Paw Paws are native to most of Pennsylvania (if not all) so you shouldn't have any problems finding them. Look by slow moving rivers, that's the habitat they perfer!

    Hello mate
And isn't it a better idea to cut the plastic container and the bottom part on one side?
I plant avocado trees and use some very elongated containers for the roots, similar to those, and since it is difficult to take them out of the water to transfer them to the ground without damaging the roots and preventing that structure from collapsing
What I do is cut the bottom plastic and make 1 or 2 longitudinal cuts on the sides, but I leave them there, so that they maintain the structure, and I deposit it in the hole in the floor with the plastic walls, which Dotavia does not remove, and a net placed on the ground removed the sides, pulling upwards
and since I had previously loosened them, they come out very well and everything stays in its place.
    I don't know if I explained it correctly :)

That would be a great idea if you didn't want to save the pots and they weren't expensive and hard to find in my area, not to mention wasteful! But that does sound like a great idea and thank you for sharing.

I suppose you also want the soil to go a little dry before performing this operation, that way the soil is lighter and there's less gravitational force acting on the root ball threatening to break them apart?

Hello. I am located in zone 8a7b in Arizona we are at a little bit higher altitude so it's cooler up here and I'm wondering if I can get some seeds from you or even some Paw paw saplings.

Sure I could do that. Paw Paws may struggle though in your climate being so hot and dry!

what type or brand of potting soil do you use in your tree pots?

Hi Craig, for germinating seeds I use pro mix potting soil from Lowes. For plants I do my own mix usually a blend of garden soil or black earth mixed with composted pine mulch and a bit of perlite or vermiculite. Depending on what pH the plant likes, I'll add peat moss or lime to alter the pH. If the plant perfers neutral pH I don't add anything. Hope that helps.

Where can you get Deepot tree pots in Canada?

I searched everywhere in Canada and couldn't find any. I ended up purchasing a bunch that size and another size similar to a 3 gallon, but very very long (taproot) from Oregon. And of course payed a hefty shipping fee.

Hello, how tall are your tree pots? They seem to be more than 12 inches tall.
Also, do you start them in that long pot or a shorter one?
    Thanks
