“Copy, Transform & Combine” is literally the building blocks to every creative endeavor. If you want to break down creativity into a formula - here you go.
When I started my brand I wanted to design strictly t shirts and merch now a year into it I moved direction to a full blown creative agency where we are designing furniture and also working on a short film
It took me a full year of planning before I was comfortable releasing anything but that might be different for others. This business takes alot of time, patience, and effort and even after that you still might not get the results or notoriety you were looking for but you have to be okay with that.If your in this business its for the art and the message your trying to add to the world.
5:50 and onward is the truth! a few key points i wanna speak on: - reps are important, cant get swole if u only hitting 1-2 push ups. same with any form of art you are creating. a homie who does live speed painting taught me this; he draws the same picture many times to get it down. The people he performs to wont see those 100s of practice sketches, just the masterpiece in front of them. - Success might not come around on ur first (or first few go-arounds). Another person told me 9 out of 10 businesses fail. so what do you do? make 10 businesses. - Last point about the people judging but aint doin it themselves, thank you for your energy. You could be doin millions of other things, but u spend that brain power/effort to speak on someone. That time/energy could be spent on building up your own self/brand. All that pocket-watching could have been used to get your own pockets fat.
Hi Reggie, I have not accomplished anything yet but i am learning in the process, few things i can recommand that helped me : 1. reading books about how to succeed according to your plan 2. Have specific and clear goal to help you having a focal point. 3. Work on your mental. Inspiration, plans, ideas are crucial but mental is key. Work on it to have the right mindset, mentality. This will help you to merge above the rest, i guess.
I almost stop watching 'til the end cause I immediately write my ideas. Thanks for the inspiration. You're one of the good things happened to me in 2020. I'll never forget that. 😊
This isn’t an advertisement or my product but I recently got this notebook for Christmas called a Rocketbook and it allows you to scan the pages and send them to a folder and I’ve recently been using it a ton, whenever I have an idea I can sketch it quickly and then send it to my google drive and it’s helped me get ideas out of my head easily.
Lessons learnt. Definitely gonna use these with design and with my UA-cam channel as well, I recently hit 500 which isn't alot but it's enough to apply some of these tips to. Thanks
I created a podcast named Out of the box where I upload content about fashion and record the process of me learning fashion. It is like.... I learn and I record the episodes to share with my audience. Keeps me accountable.
You speak nothing but the truth, Reggie, much appreciated. I just came across your channel, in the last 2 weeks, and the content is great and the stuff you touch on in this video, are always good to hear. I am building a brand/have been building a brand for a couple of years now and I have been doing research for many years and learning various crafts. I sell vintage clothing and have done so since around 2008, so I am constantly keeping up with what's fresh and what's fresh, again. I also have experience with crochet and hat making, as well as 20 years of skateboarding experience. My brand will not be a skate brand but will incorporate elements of skate style blended with functional, work wear and handmade crochet hats and bags (custom sized beanies w/ insulation options and elements of leather and silk...basic to high-end). It's a lot of stuff that goes into a brand, or at least, a brand that's got some substance to it, a strong foundation and diverse influences/incorporated elements. I'm at the point where it's falling upon the "application" of all of my hard work. As daunting as it may be, It all falls on me. I've done the lifting and the building, shored up the foundation and have the plan. I can't stop working now... There's really a lot to it all, there's the creative, the financial, the legal, the social media, the customer service... This is my burner account, but I hope to have my brand, fully launched in 2021, and to have a UA-cam channel, set up to go with it. I'm working on a squarespace account and website, right now, and am going to be incorporating my own creations and my vintage wears, into the website - all my ideas are commonplace and are influenced by others, but my execution, is all my own and so will be, the end result. I won't drop the name or anything because I'm here for insight, not to shamelessly self promote, so I won't but I hope that I can drop the link, in the future.
Mistakes 100% make you a better designer! It's so easy to put an idea on paper, but executing it fully is always harder than you'll expect. I'd say just seeing things through to the very end is a huge step in itself. Push yourself, make it real. Knowing garment construction, going to fittings, talking to your sewing team and the challenges they encounter with the garment- all these things make you a better designer. It's important to have a relationship with your entire team. I've been watching your videos for a while, but for some reason, I didn't know you were designing! I currently work at a street/athletic wear brand out of LA, and would really like to live and design in Japan at some point. Do you have any advice for finding designing jobs in Japan?
You probably dont care but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost the account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Bradley Case Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This was a good video because all of this applies to fashion , but it’s a great video because most of these things and these steps can be applied to anything in life really😂
While I'm not afraid with failing with my first Brand concept, what I'm concerned with is how do i get customers who are not just my friends, family and/or people i know, how can i connect and engage with those people?
I been trying to find a clothing manufacturer for at least 5 months and getting nowhere. I tried Alibaba. One company looked very promising but they don't have time for my small business. Do you have any sources that can help me?
I feel personally attacked by tip two. I really overlooked the simple task of writing things down. That kind of struggling is a choice...a choice I used to make daily. Also, I truly believe my entire brand is built off of the mistakes I made.
Nothing like employing it now. Make it a point to carry a small blank page notebook or sketch book. Great for escaping the rigamarole of daily life as well as getting your ideas out.
Hey Reggie! After 2 years of not much we managed to get some our cut and sew garments into a boutique in the UK. Its surreal seeing our stuff in their racks. Melbourne designers are coming. www.thenever.com.au
Okay stop right there! "Copy everyone." Yes, I agree, everybody copies everybody, and its been like that since day one. But see, everybody copies the main source, the masters of the ORIGINAL idea, those who thought of it first. So how about, instead of beating a dead horse to look like everything else that's already out there (and frankly its BORING seeing the same tired overplayed thing over and over), come up with your own original idea, your own concept, your own design! That's what a designer is supposed to do- create something new. Otherwise, why even bother?
This is golden! Classic tips that always work, much love for the knowledge. It reminds me of my journey in breaking (bboying), where it's about reinventing what exists - "Bite and Flip", and putting in those reps to get your skills down. Wishing The Casuals and everyone here a Happy New Year! m u c h l o v e
I will admit that this is 110% facts, I post my work on insta and I’ve been developing a brand for a while. Still hasn’t taken off but will all the attempts taken I’ve gotten better at making clothes and have moved on to trying things outside of clothes. Try to find fun in the journey above all. If interested take a look @ill_maculate
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Everyone copies bruh. Everyone. Everything is a reference of a reference of a reference. And just to make a point, Kanye literally hire Virgil, Jerry, and a slew of others to help him with those "concepts". If you like Kanye great but nobody is an originalist except creation itself and I'm skeptical of even that.
