  • Thornton Wilder's THE SKIN OF OUR TEETH, toyed with theatrical conventions and walked off with the 1943 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Combining farce, burlesque, and satire Wilder depicts an Everyman Family as it narrowly escapes one end-of-the-world disaster after another. Here, Wilder's nephew Tappan discusses major themes and also challenges inherent in the play.
Tappan Wilder is the nephew and literary executor of Thornton Wilder, and the manager of his literary and dramatic properties. Wilder is a graduate of Yale College and holds an M.A. in American history from the University of Wisconsin and a M. Phil. in American studies from Yale.
