    I have 3 savage rifles and I’ve owned 8 total . They are accurate and reliable . Will make more high dollar rifles look like crap when it comes to performance. Can’t beat them or the price .great rifles . I’ve harvested numerous animals with savage rifles and had no issues at all ❤️👍🏻

    Just spent the day out with my new savage axis II in .223 fitted with the Bushnell Banner scope. Sighted it in at 25 yards... 3 shells. Then 5 shells at 100 yards... Grouped all 5 touching. It is a tack driver. I did tighten up all screws before heading out to the field. Stock was solid and not flimsy at all. Yes the bolt release is difficult but once you get used to It is not a problem. Completely satisfied. I used Barnhaul 55 grain shells to get started. No misfires.no issues whatsoever.

    Just got one new from Classic Firearms for $350. It comes with a Nikon 3-9x40 BDC scope, which is $180 alone. Absolutely fantastic deal...not to mention you get a couple of free shirts and extras through an additional rebate promotion. Super excited about this rifle!

    For my Savage Axis 243, I bonded a Savage 10 box to the Savage Axis floor plate and got 12 rounds. I cut the bottom of the plastic Axis floor plate out, rounded the top of the 10's 10 round box then used JB KWIK to bond them together. I used files to smooth the connection on the inside of the new magazine and kept the 10's spring and follower. Flawless operation but a bit expensive. I replaced the Savage with a Howa 1500. now I use standard military 308 20 round magazines.

    I just picked one up in (boring 😉) 270 Win from Tenda. They're shipping with a new stock design and the Weaver Scope was replaced with a Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 with a ballistic-plex style reticle.
    The magazine is still hard to snap in despite the new stock, but it definitely looks a little snazzier.

    Nice review. Picked up a Savage Axis II XP in .223 early in 2017. Didn't really expect much out of a budget rifle. But after spending some time with it, I have to say that it's a great value. Mine is an absolute tack driver - holding less than an MOA out to 400 yards on a windless day, which is about all I would expect from this cartridge. Love the AccuTrigger. Frankly, the capabilities of the rifle far exceeds my skill as a shooter. My only complaints: that awful bolt release, and the tiny, flimsy magazine. Seriously considering purchasing another in .308 with the heavy barrel option. But shoot that stout of a cartridge would require some type of stock upgrade to eliminate the plastic flexing.

    • @williammawk1720
      @williammawk1720 6 років тому

      Are you serious, your Savage Axis in 223 caliber shoots under 1" MOA at 400 yrds. Look out varmits...

    • @floydteter4323
      @floydteter4323 6 років тому +1

      Didn't say 1" at 400 yards. Said 1 MOA. That would be 4 inches at 400 yards. An MOA = 1/60th of a degree, which comes out to about 1" per hundred yards. Bench rest, windless day...yeah. Not always, but when conditions are right and I'm on my game.

    Pull the trigger FIRST, hold it down then push and HOLD release lever. You can then release the trigger. You DO NOT have to hold them both to remove the bolt , just the release lever. This frees up your other hand to remove the bolt.

    I have the axis ii xp in 30-06. All the screws on the scope and the two on the rifle get loose and after 40 rounds it starting having problems thought it was the ammo cuz the primer had a strike mark but it wouldn't fire like 20% of the time. Looked at my bolt yesterday and it looks like one of the springs in it is fuck up. Twisted or broken gonna take it appart today.

    My dad has one. But without the accutrigger. And it's a great rifle. His is in .243. I like it. I might get one in lefty in .308. But would you suggest a tikka t3 in .308? I want one of those in lefty as Well

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  6 років тому +3

      The Tikka is a nicer rifle with a much slicker bolt, but it also costs quite a bit more.

    • @regsparkes6507
      @regsparkes6507 6 років тому

      The Best Of All,..the Tikka is a great rifle,..nobody has ever regretted buying 'quality', I think. Ihave one in 22-250, a super rifle IMHO.
      BUT, why not check these Savage Axis' with a wood stock,...these are good looking, without the weak point at the grip area, and also they are considerably at less cost than Tikka.

    Hi there. What height rings and base set would you recommend for a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 30mm tube mounted on my hunting rifle Savage Axis II .270 win (with accutrigger)

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  6 років тому +1

      Oh sorry, I'm not sure what height rings you'd need for that combo. If I'm unsure of ring height, I usually take my rifle and scope into a shop so I can get the lowest ring height possible.

    • @johnt4060
      @johnt4060 5 років тому +2

      Most medium height rings will easily mount up to a 44mm objective lens. You can try tall rings (50mm obj lens) to be on the safe side. I had the same question mounting the scope on my 22, I used medium rings and the scope was almost touching the barrel.

    • @erickringo1773
      @erickringo1773 5 років тому +1

      Thanks The.22Marksman I did install the Talley medium rings and it was perfect. Still plenty of room before touching the barrel BUT the bolt handle almost touch the scope so medium height rings are the lowest I can go with.

    Hi there guys. I'd like address a question to y'all. I'm thinking of buying a Savage Axis II in 308 Win but not for the use as a hunting rifle. I'll like shoot with it only at the range. Is that a stupid ideea? Will the barrel get too hot after, say 20-30 shots fired? Thx for all ur answers... Szabi

    • @titojesusmane9540
      @titojesusmane9540 4 роки тому

      It'll heat up yeah, shouldn't affect shot placement too much, really depends on distance i suppose. My 30-06 axis heats up after about 15 and it does start to affect grouping but not to the point that it would affect lethality while hunting if that makes any sense ( i never measured the groupings so i can't give you exact numbers )

    The one and only thing that gives me concern is how delicate looking the stock is right at the pistol grip and trigger guard area; just look at this area beginning at the 5:00 mark.
    I was about to buy one, until my Dealer/Gunsmithing store showed me two broken off Axis stock's he had in his shop, waiting for new stocks. Both rifles were dropped, one while being taken out of the back of a pick-up the other while going through wooded ares, during hunting.
    I like Savage rifles a lot, but seeing these broken off stocks made me go buy a different brand.

      What do you expect for a crap tactic entry level gun. I know a few people who buy this and restock it. I’d only ever have one of these as a backup, and I know my brother-in-law had a trip where another hunter broke his rifle and borrowed one of these as a backup, (7mm Savage replaced his .308 Rem 700). He was so happy he bought the loner.

    The only thing I don't like about Savage Axis they don't offer a 10 or 15 round magazine unless one makes their own. I only need one shot to harvest a deer. I need the other 9 rounds to protect my harvest from predators, and I don't like to have to reload a magazine every 3rd round while at the range. Other brands beat Savage in this area.

    My dad has one of these. He hunts buck, and every Saturday night, he brings home some Buck meat. His rifle, specifically, is the Savage Axis II 25-06 with a Nikon Scope.

    He said 30-06 is boring. LOL Would he think that if someone was shooting 30-06 at him? I love my Savage Axis 2 Its 30-06. The magazines are the only thing that sometimes can be a pain.

    I'll stick to buying a Mossberg Patriot 270 win for the same price. This would of been a better rifle for the price but to much hassle. ( Winchester) real dropped the ball and its sale price. But, I still won't buy it. I'll stick to my 270win that i don't have to stress with

    I have the axis 308. The bolt cycling is terrible. It's a shame great gun but Cheap Spring design on the bolt kills this gun for me.

    Wining about the bolt release...really? So weak. So weak. Savages that have a bottom or top bolt release lever/button have the same thing and have for a long time so far as I know. Viewers should know that big boy hunters with big boy hands don't find this difficult or time consuming.

    • @Huntinggearguy
      @Huntinggearguy  5 років тому

      Modern bolt action hunting rifles are very similar, so differences have to be highlighted when comparing them. Other manufacturers use a simple side release.

    • @dutchjennings1705
      @dutchjennings1705 5 років тому

      @@Huntinggearguy So? We heard you the first time you wined, believe me. Obviously the shooting public doesn't give that much of a rip about it since the 110 the longest running production bolt gun in US history and also the first to produce one in LH for us lefties. Some other rifles come with fixed sites on the barrel too but I didn't here you wining about that. To most people that would be a MUCH bigger deal.
