Thanks for this. I just ordered a Dewitts for my C5 Z06. My stock cooler is leaking and I want to make a video about upgrading. I don't have the money to get the fans yet but its on my list.
Dude, that install was sweet, looked totally easy enough for any C5 owner to accomplish. Great tutorial / walk through Chris, glad you have some great partners to show off some awesome products. I will have to look into this for myself.
Awesome. Really nice to see ya working on the vette. I finally came home. Drove my vette an I was so happy. But now its leaking oil . Looks like rear main. Take care an thanks for the awesome video
Thank you for helping me with my research I have a 05 cts-v and it runs the same temperature and I have the Dewitt radiator only thing I'm missing is the SPAL dual Fan so it can run alot cooler specially in hot climates and at the sametime you mentioned to change your thermostat while your right there so thats what I have to do also but thank you again
Great video. Unfortunately I have a 2001 A4 with the transmission cooler lines that have to be transferred over. I have the DeWitts and Spal fan setup that I have been putting off because I am not sure how to handle the transmission lines as far as fluid loss and refill? I have seen numerous videos on swapping DeWitts on C5 Manual transmissions, but nothing for the automatic?
@@mycorvettelife I just called Dewitts and they said for me just to tie a plastic bag around the trans lines when I disconnect them to catch any fluid that might escape. I should be able to measure the loss and replace the fluid with the same amount until I can get the car in the air and check it properly.
Chris, I have a 98 Base Automatic. Motor is stock. Only have a cat back, nothing else. I replaced my radiator and fan with a DeWitt, the exact same one as you used in your c5. Stock 190 Tstat. Actually your video was my inspiration. I want my motor to run in the 190's. I live in the Chicago area. However I have not seen the same results that you have. I watch your video when you drove in 106 degree heat and your temps were 190. When you spirited the engine, the temp rose to 198, and by the time you got home you were at 189. I drive 6-7 miles to work. On a 42 degree morning, I am at 203 by the time I get to work. Why is it that at 106 degrees in Phoenix, you are at 190 and I am at 42 degrees in Chicago and am at 203? My condenser is cleaned out. Stock and original water pump. I have had my fans recalibrated to start at a colder temp. First fan=On at 205, off at 200. Second fan=On at 210, off at 206.
How was the wiring? Pretty easy? I see my c6z has 3 wires and the dewitts fans has 1 plug connector with 2 wires…. I can’t find a wire diagram anywhere. Please help
Thanks for the vid. I know your car is manual so your radiator doesn't have transmission cooler lines going into the radiator but do you happen to know on ones that do is the top line or the bottom line the line coming in from the transmission and which one is going back to the the trans? Thanks.
I put a new radiator in my 2003 C5 about 2 years ago. The plastic end tank (where the upper hose connects) was seeping coolant and leaving a few drops on my garage floor. I ran into a huge issue with the automatic transmission fluid cooling lines when I tried to connect them to the new radiator. Would NOT connect. I tried radiators from O'Reilly's, NAPA and Autozone. No luck. I ended up adapting the cooling lines with some special fittings. I did not add any rubber parts - rubber eventually fails. I ended up cutting off the factory fittings and used a flare tool to adapt the new parts. The C5 is bone stock and I am the original owner. I have no idea why the oil lines would not attach to the radiator.
I really like this radiator it's pricey at $800.00 what you're opinion about using the factory fan's because are pricey also give me you're thoughts thanks I really like your videos you're doing a great job 👍
Thanks for another great vid! 2 questions: the C5 really doesn't have a radiator cap, right? Just the cap on the reservoir? Also, I've never seen you use a cordless ratchet in your videos. I just bought one hoping it would cut down on all the awkward angle torquing and maybe reduce the repetitive swinging of normal ratchets in tight spaces. BUT, it was absolutely useless for my latest project of replacing the sway bar end links. I'm thinking of returning it. Do you have/use a cordless ratchet?
Excellent video. What degree thermostat does your car have ? I see a lot of shops install 160. Also, do the factory fans perform well enough to reuse with the DeWitts radiator ?
I'm curious why you didn't go with the model that has the built in oil cooler? Since I'm sure at some point you will upgrade to one. Great video though 👍🏽
Hey Chris, I was curious if there is more clearance between the sway bar and driver side fan with this setup. If so, how much do you think? My DeWitts is lowered on the cradle and I had to clearance the stock fan, now it’s off balance. If there is more clearance I’ll probably purchase the spal fans. Good content btw!
So i got a 1999 c5, last month i decided to go on a road trip and well it didnt end well. Could of been worse but it isnt that great. I need a new fender and front bumper and dont know where to get one. Its a silver C5 the damage isnt super noticeable but i would like it like factory. Any info on where i could look for fenders?
Chris, wanted to reach out to you. I know your ride is a 98. I have a 99 manual. 46G miles. Parked for years. I got it at a steal. Love it. BUT...ebcm. Yep. ABS light on and traction lights. It still drives fine. Have you ran into this problem? If so, what did you do? Any info you could provide would be helpful. I'm looking for a vette club near me. Can't tell you how much your videos have helped me. Especially cleaning the engine it freaks me out to spray water on that thing

That's one hell of a nice set up right down to them using factory type connectors for the fans. Basically plug & play, thanks for the install video.
Nice set up and the price is affordable! Have to put that on my list
Let us know when you're ready to put that list into action. :)
As usual, great video. Glad you’re back, Chris
Beautiful radiator! Look very nice good job!

Easily one of the best upgrades I did to my C5. Especially for us folks in AZ.
Awesome! Your in car sound is beautiful! Need some canyon run videos!
Thanks another day in autoshop! With a clone of my car ( except my automatic transmission)

Great video Chris, very impressed with your presentation.
Im wanting to get the short dewitts with the spals for my c5. The quality does look great. Gotta save my pennies..
I know right, basically a grand for both parts
Worth it! And you will make more power when your car runs cooler.
Save those pennies! We may have a promo coming up that will help.
Dewitts Radiator I’m listening too I’m on the market for a new radiator too for my cammed vette
Great Video 👍🏿
Great job Chris
Great video, very informative. You just motivated to take my Vette out lol. Thx 😊

Hey do you think you can upgrade the fans without upgrading the radiator
Damn, I live in the phx area too. This is a must have.
How was the wiring? Pretty easy? I see my c6z has 3 wires and the dewitts fans has 1 plug connector with 2 wires…. I can’t find a wire diagram anywhere. Please help
It’s plug and play. Order the right fan for the C6 and it will have the correct plug.
After removing the radiator is it possible to replace the Harmonic Balancer. I hope I spelled that right. I enjoy all of your videos.
You will need to remove the steering rack to access the center bolt.

Because I don’t race it and don’t need it.
They are a must for an automatic transmission because they run much hotter being in the rear of the car! Heat is an A-4s worst enemy!

Nice modifications & great information. Did the stock fan harnesses work? Are the fans SPAL brushless?
Yes. And I’m not sure if they are brushless.

Yes

I haven’t had a problem with the ECBM.

How much HP is your vette making to the wheels?
422whp on 91. Mods list is in the description below the video.

If youre looking to run cooler go with a 160 degree thermostat. Makes a huge difference, fixed my overheating issue completely.
