Agreed. I did a lighting video in the past. The viewers weren’t very interested unfortunately. I try to address subjects the viewership shows interest in. Thanks so much for your support.
Happy to hear about pianos. I bought a concert grand during the pandemic and am loving it. I took lessons in my 30’s. Sold my piano when I downsized house in 2006. Fast forward to 2021 and I looked at my huge sofa that no one ever sat on…….gone…..in its place is my new grand. ❤
I took piano lessons for 5 years and still can’t play the piano. Then switched to English horseback lessons and amateur show jumping competitions. I started at age 12 and rode into my 40s. That I was good at. Love your videos. Hi Cornelius!
Hi Garrett. Lois here. My late father promised to buy me a grand piano if I did something exceptional - it was too long ago to remember the nature of the challenge. I was, in fact, a serious musician. Well, I accomplished the goal, but never got my piano. Fifty years later, my husband and I built our custom home, and I asked our architect to change the flat front elevation of the house to include a large bay window in the living room. I found a beautiful 6’ Knabe grand piano, soon to be 100 years old but in perfect condition, on Kijiji and we purchased it. Given that our city house has its formal rooms on the second floor, the piano sits above the street in its bay, back-dropped by the brass chandelier centred in the living room ceiling surrounded by its trimwork, and flanked by rather sumptuous silk shantung drapery panels over 3.5x white sheers. When I raise the piano lid, I see cars and pedestrians stop to admire this impressive display. I gave my upright to my daughter, and it sits in her living room in Charlotte. Ironically, I now have arthritis in my hands, and play terribly, but I finally got the piano I was promised half a century ago. All the best❤️
Torchieres!! I pestered the funeral home I delivered at to sell me theirs. Straight outta the 30s. Have always admired them 👍. Thank you for being out there on Mothers Day ❤️🐩
Oh thank goodness, you were making deliveries - for a second I pictured you at granny's viewing, completely distracted by the torchieres, and hanging back after the rest of the family leave to negotiate for them, then loading them into the back of your car, in front of the whole family! 😂
Having Cornelius make an appearance gives me such joy, remembering our Sally. For our second dog, 27 years later, we got a long hair chihuahua. You need one of these.
LOVED hearing about torchieres since I've kept mine for years. After decorating my living room which contains the tv, (of course mounted on the wall, all cords hidden within a cable concealor...LeChic Design 101!) I needed balance. I placed my very tall tree on one side, and my torchiere on the other. So happy that you mentioned this concept in the video. This girl has been listening to you for a while, which is why I receive so many compliments. Thank you Garrett! You are a treasure.
I actually did the glow in the dark stars in my grandchildren room years ago. Didn't think of painting the ceiling a dark color to make them show up brighter! Already fixed the grand piano.....
Hello 👋 I love the accent ceiling and painted trim especially when they use that high gloss paint. That baby grand piano is everything, but the real show stopper is sweet Cornelius so adorable 🥰 love him.
Oh yes! Definitely love a baby grand piano in a space and yes I do play. Roman blinds are elegant. I am definitely on board for a painted ceiling and trim - this was just the normal when I was growing up so I am not sure why it went out of fashion. However I left my torch lights in the 1990's and will not bring them back! Quick fact - I sold my home up north outside of DC (I am in Key West) and the new owners demanded I include the piano in the sale (for an additional cost of course) and I am so glad they could appreciate the small luxury a baby grand brings to a home. Love this - two videos with Garrett back-to-back! ☀️🦩🌴😊☺️❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰
Oklahoma country gal, and I love your videos. You absolutely are so much fun to watch. I so agree with loving baby grand pianos. They add so much glamor to your home.
I will watch this, after my sunday-crime-movie ....Yes, I am old- scool, still watching tv😂!!! It is so nice to see Your face and to know, there is a new article from You!!!! You are a breath of fresh air!!!!
P S ....have a baby-grand-piano....a Mahogany-Blüthner from 1942.... But I can t play! My youngest son never wanted lessons, but He could Play self- invented pieces by Just trying, that Made people listen and applaude.....now He is a father....I hope my grandkid likes to have lessons!!!!
I chose my Dallas house several years ago because it had trim like that in two of the living rooms. That made it look elegant and memorable - and still does!
I never knew that up-lamps are called tourchers. I have alwats had att least one. I use them all the time for soft- and/or mood lighting. The last tourcher I bought a Ikea for $9. That was 2-3 years ago.
I love torchieres. I have two--one left by the prior homeowners--very different from each other (so not show room matchy). I receive compliments on them from guests in my home, so I think they must not be really common where I live. I bought a downward facing floor lamp for my bedroom (torchiere did not look good there) that pulls in the design elements from the two torchieres. I want to thank you for all the knowledge that you share.
Oooh! I'd love a baby grand piano (maybe no surprise given my channel name!). I simply don't have the space though. I have a very elderly electric piano in my living room which is coming to the end of its useful life, but I simply can't afford to replace it at the moment. Love a good torchere light too. I did consider getting on for my front room but I ended up going for an old brass oil lamp on a floor stand that I converted to electric. I have got a couple of torchere-style plant stands though - one has a bronze jardiniere with a fern in it and the other one has a lamp on it. They're great for adding height and vertical interest, especially in a small room as they give impact without taking up too much floor space.
For a second there I wondered what on earth a torchiere was. Then you showed one and I saw it was an uplighter floor lamp (which is what they're commonly known as here in the UK). I've always utilised Roman blinds, real and faux, as they're so versatile. I had no idea they'd ever gone out of fashion!
Oh, Cornelius! I just love ❤️ a sweet bulldog! My sweetheart, Champ, just turned 9. He is such a fun bulldog with a great personality too! He likes to touch the little noise buttons. 😂 Glad to see your sweet fur baby! Also love the piano and painted ceiling ideas! ❤ I once painted the sky on my bonus room ceiling. It took a week!
I make Roman Blinds for my home. It’s hard work, especially when I fully line them, but I’m really happy because I can spend more on the fabric compared with curtains. I also have torchères since some of the rooms don’t have ceiling lights (something I didn’t realise until the first night we spent in the house!!)
I m totally spooked....I am planing to move into an old house.....and had no clew, what curtains to buy......and than.......bamm.....the ,,Roman Blinds" !!! Yes!! Perfect solution.....And it safes me a lot of money. I won t be buying curtains, that aren t really ,,the thing" for these old-fashioned windows....that would not have fitted the style!!! This is good advice at the right time!!!! Apart from being charming and witty....You really know Your designs!!! Thank You, Garrett! Kind regards!!!❤
So happy you mentioned painted trim! My husband and I were just talking about doing this yesterday. We have old builder's grade wood trim - and not the good wood - the cheap kind that has aged to an icky orange color. We have beautiful hardwoods throughout so we talked about not needing the trim to also be wood. Now to decide on what color!!
Cornelius and your artful framing of the baby grand with love is divine. That would be a lithograph I'd purchase in a heart beat. What an eclectic wonderment of resurfacing design trends today's video showcased. I'm spellbound by your gentle introduction of them Garrett.
Do you think blavk windows are a trend that will last? It seems like all the white house new construction uses black windows, but I like traditional white windows (that somehow now look old?)
I panted the trim in the living room, the same color as the wall, but in a gloss. When we moved into our house the dinning room has a skylight. My husband said he wanted the ceiling to be blue, to match the sky. Didn't tell him the sky changed colors several times a day. "OK dear you pic the color, I'll work with it." Robin's egg blue it is??? The walls are Wedgwood green and the trim is a muted dark forest green. Oh, yes the drapes, are dark red.
I am in the process of painting all our doors in the bedroom hallway a very navy blue and I’m loving hot it looks. It took a bit to convince the hubs, but he’s even liking it.
As always your style is impeccable and your advice spot on…you mention something for everyone’s budget and I so appreciate your versatility without compromising! Your personality is so bubbly and uplifting I literally draw energy from your videos. Be blessed !
Can you do a video tour of your home? I'd love to see that. I'm removing paint from our front door. I'd love a piano. We had Roman blinds. Somebody tried to break into our house. My dog met the intruder. My blinds got destroyed.
Hello! 🎉 could you share about more about ceiling medallions? I think they a lot of them are poor quality and while they can be an easy DIY they ruin the ceiling.❤
Oh my God, I have a tour share. I thought it was just a lamp. Oh well, I like it no matter what it is. it works great in my living room with 10 foot ceilings. I can’t believe I actually picked something stylish. Wow.
So glad to see Cornelius -- hopefully, he is coping okay with both his brothers gone. Your piano is gorgeous! Didn't know that Roman blinds were "out," but glad to hear that they're back on trend. Such an elegant window treatment.
I think they are a very functional and often aesthetic window treatment option. It’s hard to tell with Cornealius as he is always quite reserved. The loss has changed some of his routines. At times he seems to miss Linus especially as they grew up together and at other times he seems to relish being the complete center of attention as the only dog.🤷♂️
I absolutely love torchiere lighting. We have had them over the years. They give such a wonderful ambience to the room❤. I would love to have Roman blinds in my room…the end tables cover a portion of our bedroom windows and they open from the bottom. Love the Cornelius segment ❤❤❤❤.
Seeing you interact with your dog made me smile.
😊😊😊
Lighting matters WAY MORE than most people realize. Maybe a video on just lighting is appropriate. THANKS! Love your channel!

Yay for torchieres! With a warm white bulb and shade, there isn't much else that can make a room so comfortable and inviting.
Agreed! 🙌🏻

Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for supporting the channel by subscribing and watching.
Wow I have a torchier lamp in my living room for years, I’m still loving it
Was the lamp out of trend? I didn't know that. I have such a lamp for the last 25 year. 😅

You helped settle the decision on painting my trim AND on what to do with bathroom ceilings - - you're the Psychic Decorator, Garrett. Thanks!!
My pleasure!
I love colour drenching - it's very impactful. Another great LeChic video.
Many thanks!
I've got two torchere lights, didn't know they were out of style because I never let it go!

I must be getting old. I love all these trends for other people!
I love torchieres as down lights can give me migraines. I have a modern black one next to my TV and it can swivel so the light points downwards too.
Cornelius and your artful framing of the baby grand with love is divine. That would be a lithograph I'd purchase in a heart beat.

I have inset roman shades and drapes over that because we have a southern exposure that's quite blinding.

Your thoughts on torchieres are really for a corner that I am struggling with. I've been looking at all the wrong lamps for that spot!
It makes me so happy to see how much LOVE you give Cornelius💞 Looks like me with Saydee, my Chihuahua Minpin !! - Lisa
🐕🪽🪽
Ohhh, so many nice pictures in this video!
Enjoy your week, and am happy Cornelius is doing well!❤
Thank you! You too!
Love love love your stylish videos. Agree with everything. Oh and piano ❤ Have one in our living room
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying.
I never knew the name of that lamp. I used to have a pair.
Fab ideas, as always⭐️. Cornelius is adorable 😊

Torchere
@@sheilagrubman2285 thanks, I didn’t know how to spell it, so I just went with what Siri put there.
Torchière
_up light_ 😑
I find your advice about the use of color very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
LOVE me a torchiere ❤
I made the mistake of using ceiling paint when I painted my house. I didn’t know any better. Live and learn.
Well, on the bright side, it’ll receive paint pretty easily. The glossier the paint the harder it is to paint on top of
Always love seeing your videos!
Glad you like them!
I really enjoyed this one, Garrett! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Btw big hug to cheeky Cornealius. My grey cells made me miss to write about him earlier❤
👍🐕🪽🪽
Thanks Garrett! Cheers
My pleasure!
blind solution for inward opening windows please
Love uplighting! So moody.
Paint is so much fun
How tall should a ceiling be for a 7 ft. torchiere?
At least 9ft in my opinion
❤
I’m gonna tell my husband that he’s the Roman blind to my difficult window :)
CUZ WE KNOW THIS BAE IS A BAY HONEY
🤣🤣🤣

Trim- painting wood depends on the quality of the wood itself- if it is good wood with a nice grain, keep it. cheap dark-stained pine, not so much.

Hi Garrett! My husband actually plays the piano- he wants one for his birthday. Curious to know where you purchased yours? Great video per usual!
My husband purchased it new about 7 years ago from a dealer in New England.
You have fantastic design insights/tips. Thanks Garrett
My pleasure!
Cornelius purred! So cute.
