This is actually iconic to me - I've never met anyone that's been overly positive towards this one, they're either lukewarm or outright negative lol, still a good one in my eyes.
That’s one I haven’t seen in a while, but can’t wait to revisit it. That’s a great aspect of “Columbo” - seeing a long-neglected episode and remembering how good it is!
Oooo, now we know _why_ the name _Echoes Of Columbo!_ Interesting analysis as always! I hadn’t seen this episode, but I love how the diorama plays out as a metaphor for the episode! Haha, enjoyed the personal pics of a young _EOC_ as well. 😝
There are some callbacks to Dead Weight as well- you have Padget, someone based on Patton who is romantically involved with a woman young enough to be his granddaughter & also potentially showing the signs of old age, much like Hollister. And also like Hollister you have the murderer Braille as someone swindling the government to get rich, killing to cover it up & likely facing far worse than just a murder charge in court. Robert Foxworth has the charisma to be an effective villain. He was in line to play JR Ewing but turned it down as he found the character "dull"(not unfounded as he was a bit character bad guy on Dallas until Larry Hagman actually fleshed out the role). But go watch him in Star Trek Deep Space Nine, where he plays a Starfleet admiral who wants to take over the Federation under the guise of "homeland security". He also had a particularly nasty role on Law & Order SVU. And speaking of Star Trek, it would be fun to look into how often Odo & Tuvok referenced Columbo.
@@EchoesOfColumbo Odo gets a few "just one more thing" moments throughout, his first instance of it being written by a Columbo regular. Tovok also got a few in during Voyager(which also starred Kate Mulgrew, even if Mrs Columbos isn't canon) As for the Foxworth episodes, the "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost" 2-part story was a very eerie foreshadowing of the US post-9/11 despite being written years before it happened.
Another terrific "echo" - thanks for making these. I never cease to be amazed by the parallels you find. Kojak and Under Siege 2? Col. Brailie and Brad Whitaker? What's next -- how about Lauren Staton and Catherine Tramell? Hmmm!
How in the world does Columbo get to search the apartment where the assignations are occurring without a warrant let alone remove items and not have his entire case fall apart from a "fruit of the poison tree" defense? He seems to get away with an awful lot of unlawful search and seizures in these stories. As much fun as it is to see the guilty get what they deserve, the screenwriters could ground Columbo's practices in more reasonable ways and have even better plots.
This one is particularly perplexing in that Columbo didn’t NEED to know who the woman was - the fact that it was the General’s wife doesn’t impact the case at all!
@@EchoesOfColumbo Except that it would explain another motive that "Frank" had for killing Sargent Keegan who was threatening to blackmail Frank with the knowledge that he was conducting an affair with the General's wife. Could have at least led to Frank being fired from the Foundation and cutting him off from his money train. Still no excuse for Columbo's unprofessional search or the screenwriters contriving it as a Deus ex Machina to advance the story. Columbo gets away with ridiculous stuff in so many of these episodes!

I obviously find myself in complete agreement with you, sir!
Thanks for your work. My favorite of the later episodes was RIP Mrs. Columbo.

Nice! Imo this episode is one of the more engaging ones of the ABC years. Thanks for covering this one!
Absolutely agree! Popular opinion is dead set against it, but I think it’s endlessly entertaining.
I always liked Grand Deceptions alot, so i am happy to hear i am not the only one :) thanks for the video :)
We are not alone!

I’m shocked you haven’t seen this one! I’ll have to force it on you at some point.

This makes me want to delve into Deep Space Nine STAT!

awesome!! Great show.
Thank you! I poured my heart and soul into this one. It’s a great episode.
Best outro in the history of UA-cam

Ooohhh dang, that one’s not bad! Peter Falk as… COLUMBO… FATAL ATTRACTION.

I always viewed this as a very average episode. Not one of the best and certainly not among the worst
This one just has a special place in my heart - along with all of Season 8, honestly. One of my Columbo guilty pleasures!
