I agree that it does sometimes get a little dull in the gameplay and how it progresses.
however I am also a terrible gamer of all kinds, so I tend to appreciate games more for the lore, art, and music. and due to all of those factors, it is one of my most favorite games. the music is well crafted to give a certain emotion to understand the depth of the area or battle you're in, the art is beautiful, and the lore, while generally vague, is extremely interesting and I find it very fun to speculate about the history of hallownest and it's inhabitants.
I get this game isn't for everyone but to me it is intriguing and while I don't enjoy the battles cuz I suck at them, I want to keep going to experience this world.
thanks for coming to my Ted talk lol, I think I just proved that hollow knight fans are indeed crazy

Nah man, you are a sane hollow knight fan. But I definitely agree with the music and art being well crafted. Can’t give my input on lore much

@@PascalNeem yeah the lore takes a lot of time to delve into. thanks for affirming my sanity haha

Must’ve been a ton of work to put this video together! And yeah I’ve never played hollow knight, from what I saw in the video I’d honestly say I’d have a similar opinion as you. It would be cool and interesting for a little bit. But I’m sure as some point I’d just want it to be over with so I could move on lol

I think that part of why you're not the biggest fan of the game is because you didn't get into advanced play and didn't play around with breaking the game's sequences.
The nail arts for instance are extremely useful in combat if you find the opportunities to use them (of which there are many if you look closely), sneaking in extra hits during enemy attacks is very satisfying (just like in Souls, really) as well.
As for the level design, you might have enjoyed it more if you were do do a second playthrough, and/or looked at the progression barriers, there are so many skips in the game, many of which players find by accident on their first playthrough with some tinkering, for example, I found a skip to use the Greenpath shortcut early by doing a pogo on a nearby enemy to circumvent the need to dash to reach the platform Hornet stands on, which I found a ton of fun, breaking sequences (even the nail arts from earlier have their uses here, surprisingly), even if I knew that a lot of the skips were left in intentionally.
I will have to agree that a lot of the areas feel samey if you look at anything apart from aesthetics, though, the mobs might differ slightly, but they mostly stick to a couple archetypes, and mobs overall aren't a huge part of the game.
Your stance is very fair and valid, but I figured I'd put my thoughts on the table in the places where I had disagreements, though I should mention that I'm a sucker for games like this, I love games that offer tons of freedom through intentional skips and reward mastery over their combat, it's why I loved this game, Metroid games, and even Dark Souls.

Best metroidvania is Castlevania Aria of Sorrow imo. Probably the best GBA game I've ever played.
