  • Ban Gioc is Vietnam’s best waterfall, located on the far northern border of Vietnam and China. We set off from Hanoi by local bus, taking us on a North Vietnam road trip to Cao Bang province: home of beautiful remote countryside, Nguom Ngao Cave and the Ban Gioc Falls.
    EVERYTHING FEATURED IN THIS FILM:
0:45 - WHERE IS BAN GIOC DETAIN WATERFALL?
A look at where to find the waterfall and we got there.
1:00 - COACH FROM HANOI TO CAO BANG
Day one took us from one major city to another via a very comfortable tourist coach.
1:20 - ARRIVING IN CAO BANG CITY
A brief look a fascinating city in the North.
1:34 - LOCAL BUS FROM CAO BANG TO BAN GIOC
A rough and ready drive to the countryside with some amazing views.
2:12 - ARRIVING in DAM THUY
A look around the peaceful village and our accommodation at the Yen Nhi Homestay.
    3:50 - NGUOM NGAO CAVE
One of the most beautiful cave systems in Vietnam featuring some incredible rock formations and an underground river.
5:28 - HIKING TO BAN GIOC TEMPLE
Great walk through local villages and rice farms.
5:44 - THE BEST VIEW OF BAN GIOC WATERFALLS
The viewing deck from Ban Gioc temple is a must see! We also look at how close the Chinese border is from here.
    6:45 - BAN GIOC WATERFALL
A complete look at the falls, including the boat trip that takes you right up close!

Spectacular indeed! And this is why it's so worth taking the time to journey to places that are hard to get to. 🙌 Hadn't even heard of these falls, but I mentioned that Ha Giang (also on the border with China) is the most impressive place I've been to in Vietnam, so not surprised you found a gem here. P.s. You're brave... going caving in a white t-shirt 😜 P.p.s. Your final thought on the upcoming Hoi An made me LOL, not just because of the surprise, but because that was pretty much also my impression.😂

We ended up camping right there in the corner near the side falls - in 2014 four of us from Guangzhou took our bicycles on a night bus to the border at Ping Xiang/Lang Son, and rode about 3/4 days to reach Ban Gioc falls. We arrived at the falls around dusk, so the area was empty, and also this was during Tet new year when most businesses are closed as well. We decided to walk on in and no one stopped us or seemed to notice us, so we decided to just set up our tents over there in the quiet corner.

Omg you guys are sooo close to 3k! You're growing at an insane speed. Yeah you guys are totally committed going on that long journey to the waterfalls. 7 hour coach rides are something else. The views are amazing but yeah the bus that kept stopping to collect mail probably would have made me so carsick. I've probably asked this before so excuse my poor memory but how do you do the text effects where you keep the titles in place on the screen? I love homestays! That was how I travelled Sri Lanka and there's something so special about staying at the homes of the locals. Eeew that tiny entrance tot he cave makes me feel so claustrophobic. I'd be happy to battle through that though to see the awesome cave. Curious to know how far behind realtime this was shot? Are you still travelling at the moment? Sorry for the influx of questions haha!
