    Haha love the bloopers. I have the s22 but I think I’m done giving my money to a company that won’t keep their screenreader up to date. I’ve done the workarounds and have both versions of talkback but I don’t want to support that kind of crap anymore. I will say that extra volume key shortcut is unique to samsung phones and pretty nice.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Рік тому

      Yeah, it's painful to do that. Which is why I just stay on the samsung talkback because I don't feel like going to all the hassle. I just don't know if I can live without the volume key shortcut and the large font and screen zoom. I also love their screens and cameras. So I have end up putting up with it. sigh.

    I always stick by the triple tap gesture for zooming. I don't have to worry about relocating a button and I can instantly zoom in on the exact part of the screen I want in one gesture, no need to pan around.

    What brought me here is somewhere I saw you can get samsung to read an entire webpage back to you, since talkback is for all intents and purposes useless I wanted to try that feature. I think it had something to do with the accessibility gesture so I am going to try familurizing myself wit that.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  2 дні тому

      There are quite a few different ways to do this. You can just ask Google assistant to read the page aloud to you, or you can use an app like eleven labs or Googles reading mode. There are also other similar apps. like Speech Central and. @voice aloud reader... What's nice about Google reading mode is you can associate it with an accessibility shortcut, whereas a lot of the other apps you need to go through the share menu appeared.

    Thanks for explaining the difference between the S23 talkback and the Pixel talkback versions. That's pretty important to know. I understand more now why you recommended I look into the Pixel for the talkback on your reply to my comment on your previous video. I currently have a S22 Ultra, but I may need to look into the Pixel when it's time for a new phone. It's getting rather hard to afford the Ultra models of the S series phones now, so it may be time for the change.

      Yeah. I've been planning to do a comparison vidoeo on Samsung and Pixel phones. The drawback to a pixel is that the fonts can't get as big as the Samsung. I also still prefer the Samsung camera for magnification and zooming in things around me. It's so hard to choose from. lol.

    Hi. I have a question. We have a Samsung A70 mobile and Samsung S20 FE model mobile in our family. My mother is visually impaired, she has been using talkback in her mobile which is very old - Samsung Galaxy S8+. Because this old mobile is getting spoilt, my mother has tried the above two models, A70 and S20. Still, she is not able to use the talkback as it seems complicated for her, so what to do or how should she proceed with that, why is the talkback complicated or has it been changed so much since the old model? it isn't easy to find a similar S8+ for her now. pl guide as I don't know what model of samsung is best compatible with talkback in an easy way.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  10 місяців тому +1

      Any of the newer Samsung devices will have the same talkback. Older Samsung devices like your mom's older phone will have voice assistant. They are similar in many ways, but different. I would suggest going through the talkback tutorial and practice. If you go to settings > accessibility > talkback > settings, near the bottom is Tutorial and help. I would suggest going through the tutorial, then using the practice gestures section. They will announce what each gesture does as she performs them and helps to remember. Sometimes, jsut learning a little bit at a time also helps.

      I am going to give you my opinion, just tell her to get an iPhone, it’s more straightforward, I try the galaxy for a while it didn’t work for me and sometimes for your mom it might be difficult to get out of her comfort zone, but I always figured that the iPhone is much more easier to use. Hi Carrie, I am new to your channel but have been bingeing all your videos new and old. I am also a legally blind woman who loves and gets a bit obsessed with tech and assistive tech.
    I have been a long time apple user with occasional times on Android. Recently moved to Android again as my vision has changed and so have my needs.
    My question for you is about Samsung vs pixel. I love the foldavlrs and have had the z fold 3 and have been looking at the pixel fold but haven't used a pixel before. So wanted your take ??

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Рік тому

      Awwwwww! I'm glad that you found the channel! Yes, technology can totally be addicting. it's interesting to me that you have gone back and forth between Apple and Android. What made you switch back and forth? I haven't tried the Samsung Foldables yet. Pixel fold is supposed to come in a week or two. Ill have to let you know then! I know that the fold 5 from Samsung is coming soon too. Ill have to find a way to get my hands on them! One thing I will say is that usually Samsung fonts can go much larger. Samsung has a lot more customization. But there's a lot to be said about the simplicity and The processing power and artificial intelligence on the pixel. I also heard some rumors about pixel fold not really holding up a very well overtime. It sounds like a first generation thing. But I've also heard a lot of good things about the pixel fold so I don't know!:)

      Hi there, so originally I went with apple because it was a lot less glitchy as the software has gotten smoother and been more developed over time I find that android is up to the similar levels.
      I prefer voice over to talkbac as a whole. But like you I am a hybrid user. I have enough vision to read large font but as my vision has decreased with age and medical conditions I use screen readers more just for time sake.
      I find TalkBack is getting better over time but it's still not without it's imperfections as is voice over. The main reason I am on Android now is because of the font cross overs from the system to the applications. Third party applications on apple are pathetic when it comes to their accessibility. If android can rectify this apple certainly can. From UA-cam to Facebook and Amazon. There is no excuse why these apps can't be the same font size as the system fonts. This is the biggest grips I have with apple. It makes their products virtually unusable.
      I love the z fold series however the front display is just not usable especially with how large I need the fonts and screen zoomed in. The pixel fold I went and looked at in person and the font is definitely not as large as on Samsungs which is really a borderline for me.
      Sorry for the long-winded reply but just giving a lot of context. I'd love to see a video about your vision in general and what condition you have and what your specific vision needs are. As well as any other accessibility you use around the house. I love getting new ideas of what other people may do if you fslf comfortable of course.
      Thanks for the great content you put out for all us blind techys out here.

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Рік тому

      That would definitely be a fun video! Thanks. I would love to do it in the future. I just have so many content ideas and I need to work it into my content calendar. One thing to remember though is that on the next version of Android there will be significantly larger text sizes for Pixel devices and for stock android. It's almost as big as samsung. Maybe about the same almost I think. I haven't put them side by side but it is definitely a significant bump up. So I wouldn't necessarily say give up on pixels! They're working on it!!

    • @mikaylalarson1605
      @mikaylalarson1605 Рік тому

      That's awesome. I wasn't aware of the next android I assume android 14 is what you're talking about. I hear great things about pixels in general and the fold is definitely of interest for me. And I suppose as long as it is going to continue to develope it's a safer investment than an apple right now.

    tbh i would like to switch back to android but it seems iOS is still miles ahead in terms of accessibility shame Samsung is to busy pushing out new features and don't even bother making sure everyone can use them.. say what you want about Apple but at least they think of everybody and make sure everything works. slow and steady wins the race..

    • @carrieonaccessibility
      @carrieonaccessibility  Місяць тому

      Hi there! In some ways, iPhones are more accessible. VoiceOver is more full featured, but it's definitely not perfect! Some things feel easier on Android with Talkback. A lot of new exciting things are coming for both iOS and Android. For low vision, I much prefer Android, but lots of totally blind people also use Android even though Talkback is still not as responsive as VoiceOver. I think that it's great to have competition and make all the companies be more accessible. :)
