This was a fantastic podcast. To see a man like Kevin and Jon talk about men’s emotions and dealing with trauma has been very enlightening as well as the political side of the conversation was incredibly helpful. Sometimes you go through life and you can’t seem to figure out how to deal with an issue no matter how hard you try and then you hear someone say something in just the right way that just opens your eyes and makes the solution seem obvious. That’s what this podcast was for me. Absolutely enlightening. Thank you Jon for doing this.

What they talk about men and not opening up about their emotions, Bernthal’s frank is cathartic in that he feels and displays those emotions in such a visceral, primal way. I get so much catharsis and have huge respect for Jon for empowering me in a weird way

I have to say, I needed this conversation and I didn't even know it. What a truly impressive individual with such necessary perspective. Thank you so much for providing content like this. So many points within this discussion landed deep within me. Can't wait to get started with digging into these feelings and see where they can take me. Cheers to you both!

Jon is becoming my favorite person to watch. His interviews are exactly what works for me. He's the best listener, and allows his guests to speak their truth without unnecessary interruption. He truly sets the example of what it means to listen; not wait to speak, but listen. He keeps everything on course but gives a long leash, and allows the conversation to breathe. And breath is life.

This episode really touched my heart. Appreciate Kevin’s discussion on holding space for others and getting uncomfortable. He’s the kind of person I look to in my own journey to de-stigmatize mental health - which I firmly believe impacts our ability as individuals and communities to build a better country. This podcast is one of the “beautiful things” being done out there. Thanks Jon ✌🏽

And thank you for coming on a podcast and talking about some real stuff and not just coming on to talk about war stories, guns, aggression, violence.
I love my fellow vets but enough is enough, if the veteran community is gonna lead the way we need to do it without trying to tell everyone about how big and badass and violent we are.

So much insight and valuable reflection here. I wish everyone could take some time and think about that human actions are rooted in a lifetime and generations of experiences that all leads up to a moment. 00:47:57 When Kevin reflects on his wife's family experience and poverty, access/opportunity, and empathy it really hits home. This together with his own reflection around Kaepernick tacking a knee and what that means. 00:52:33👌

This is a real eye opener. Im a Veteran as well as a Firefighter/EMT, Iv been through alot of different traumas, even as a kid growing up in Chicago where I was shot 3 times when i was 14 years old gangbangin. It took me getting shot to make a change. But I often wonder why I chose a path of high stress activities like the military and public service. Now Im goin on 40 years old an I cant remember the last time I had more than 2 hours consist sleep. Im ate up with depression an god only knows what else. I think about suck starting my 9mm 12 times a day, but also count my reasons to keep moving forward. My 3 kids is the sole reason for my breathing today. I cant give them the life I never had if Im gone. Yeah I know I need help but dont know where to start, its still somewhat taboo for us men to show emotion, or your ridiculed for doing so. But I tool alot from this show right here. Thanks brother.

John. I feel what you’re saying. And respect your honesty. You’re not alone. And there are many men of service who need help. It’s out there. And there are many amazing groups / programs that can help. No Judgment. No shame. No guilt. Just men and women getting stronger through emotional exercises.
Look into NeuroWave- brain treatment center. Veterans are sponsored. Great vids with testimonials on UA-cam
Dr Mark Gordon - he ihas been on Rogan a couple times. A renowned neuro endocrinologist that focuses on brain health and optimization.
Lastly - Save a Warrior. Jake Clark’s program helps first responders, law enforcement and veterans. Fully funded. And an amazing experience that helps us dig up rid us of the weight we carry.

    Uvalde Texas...
    Vs... LA County..
Great Podcast… great content, great unedited dialog. Multiple takeaways, 1st one being the training that law enforcement officers get across the country varies drastically. Had small town Uvalde Texas, had the same kind of training, that LA county officers have regarding active shooter, school shootings... Those small town law enforcement officers would have had more knowledge to draw from, more experienced to react from, and more lives would have definitely been saved. Defund the police? I agree with Kevin Vance, wrong path to take..

In the fire service we constantly do "live burn days" where its a metal structure filled with thick smoke a certain rooms with fire and we train on a variety of situations.. Sometimes they get hot enough to where u could actually die or be seriously injured if you took that mask off and breathed in the gases. The police could do something similar. Maybe the last two or 3 weeks recruits live at the academy working a beat shift with a TO. 8-12 hour shifts. Going out into the field and responding to calls portrayed by actors. 90% of the time its gonna be mundane but everytually theyll have their life or death situation to respond to, prolonged psych calls etc. That would take a lot of money though...

I think what gets lost in the whole kneeling conversation is, that if anything, it is paying ultimate homage to what the flag really means. Creating a society that is open to criticism without repercussions is who we are. It's ok to look at that and realize we aren't perfect as a country. Maybe even patriotic.
