Thank you, this helped me a lot. I was able to make a similar piece to mount my camera out of plastic on my 3D printer and size it to fit perfectly. Thanks again.
Wow that’s awesome. I need to look into getting a 3d printer. How does the material hold up? Is it sturdy? Do that make different vary strengths of material?
Mr. CB I have fell through before and I can tell ya, it is not fun haha. Thanks for watching. I already had your video up on my screen and have been watching it in between calls today haha. Been a busy Monday so hadn't go much watching done so far! Have a great week to you and Mrs. Rene! Btw, I go one of those little aerogardens coming. I am super excited about it. I wanted something that looked decent to set out on my counters to grow herbs in.
Thanks Dan. Not sure if you knew this or not but that is what I used to do for a living. I am still at the same company but at a office job now inside. I do miss the field work though.
I'd recommend getting a cheap POE switch - it'll eliminate the need for all those injectors in your structured wiring panel. Netgear makes numerous affordable versions. Great way to mount to the soffit!
Thanks! Yeah I only have two plugged up in my panel. The rest are plugged up in various outlets around the house. I had thought about going with a POE. Switch but then I would have to run long runs of cat5 back to the POE switch from each camera.
Man when I worked in the field installing alarms, cardboard box was my best friend lol. You don’t have much to work with as far as a surface to use. I can’t tell ya how many times I used this and it holds the piece for you. Pretty much like a sacrificial board.
Come on buddy we all want to see you craw across on you hands and knees to the other side through all that insulation 🤣 Well I gotta tell ya Ronnie that was a pretty impressive security box, man you had that thing organized nicely... great job! I like that bracket you made for the camera also, that was a great idea! Great video brother!
Thanks man. I take pride in work haha. I love doing that type of work and I really miss being in the field doing it. I don't miss the on call or not knowing when I am getting off though lol. Thanks for watching man. You are living your best life now buddy. Camping in the Mtns of SC haha. love it!
Hi! Great tip! Got 2 newbie questions: 1. What did you use to cut the aluminum with? 2. Were the screws you used to mount the base to the aluminum come from the camera package? Or did you purchase them separately? Thanks for the reply!
Aluminum is a soft light metal. I used a jig saw with a metal blade. You could use a hack saw though. It’s very easy to cut. The screws I used are called tek screws. I bought them separately at Hone depot. Most hardware stores carry them. They are self tapping pan head tek screws. They drill their own hole and are made for metal only. I hope that helps.
Where did you get the aluminum metal? Would a sheet of metal roofing cut to size work or did you use something else? Thanks for the video. Your way seems so much easier than what I was about to attempt.
Oh wow. Well I guess you have a lot of storage space haha. So you mean the ceiling joist and the floor joist both have Plywood on them? If you can access the eves, or take the section of vinyl off the eve then you could drill a hole through the plywood and run your wire like that.
The roof rafter is a few inches above the siding soffit so if you screw into it, it will Jack your soffit up. The higher your roof pitch is, the more of an angle the rafters are. Mine are on a 12 on 12 pitch. They are also spaced out 16 inches apart. This option makes it sturdier than than plus your not putting more holes in your soffit.
Hadn’t had any issues with it wirelessly. This camera also doesn’t have the option for wired. My previous cameras were wired back to the router but were still network cameras. Thanks 🙏

Awesome tips and tricks Mr. Ronnie. Yeah lets not be falling through the ceiling! Stay safe and have a great week!

That is a great way to mount a camera under the soffit. Thanks for the tips.
You are very welcome. Still working out great.
Great how to Ronnie, I really like how you have your system setup in one central location!!! Y'all have a good week sir!! Dan

Awesome. Thanks so much.
Thanks man. Solved my problem in a 7 min video.
You are welcome. I hope it works out for you.
Great little "how to" video. Good job.
Thanks brother. I appreciate it.
Fancy seeing you here!
😁
Good lesson. We don't have any cameras yet, just motion lights. Thanks for the info Ronnie! 👍
Anytime buddy!
@@EarlybirdFarmSC y'all warming up a lot tomorrow down there? We got a 20 degree jump between today and tomorrow
@@JulesGardening I heard it supposed to get a little warmer. I’m ready for Spring but we both know Feb and March are our worst months lol 😆
@@EarlybirdFarmSC oh heck yeah!
Where did you get the aluminum piece that you stick under the soffit?
@@tnthompson81 It’s flat bar aluminum I picked up at the Home Depot.
Cardboard box is a good tip!!

@@southerncharlesfamily6089 Good deal. Glad I could share something with you!
Good DIY setup Ronnie!
Thanks Papa!
I find it hard to do anything with soffit! You gots skills!😂
Yeah it is difficult to mount anything to it. Got to get creative lol 😂
This is a great tutorial.
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
Where did you find the flat aluminum ?
I bought it at Home Depot. They have a small section of various metals. M sure other big box stores carry it as well.
Nice setup with that camera. What kind of camera is that?
It’s a Alarm.com camera. You have to have an account through them for it to work. I like them so far.
Did you remove the sofit at all?
No. Never had to remove the soffit.

My attic is all covered with plywood lol there’s no crawling around. The original owner made sure it wouldn’t loose heat

Looks like you did a good job Ronnie. Are y'all having issues with thieves in your area?
Yeah we do have thieves in our area not really at our house so far. I just like to be on the safe side though. Be proactive. Thanks Bill.
Should have screwed it into the wood rafter under the eave

Lenny.. if it was that easy he wouldn't have made this video dorkis
you should’ve wired the camera instead of using wifi
