I'm going to be 59 this year, born the year after the men were killed. I grew up in a home hearing about this, and even listening to my mother read aloud to the whole family after dinner 'Through Gates of Splendor." It's almost like you all were family- though I have never met any of you. Seeing Steve and hearing his voice reflecting on those events at age 60, himself, is kind of like a bookend at the other end of life. My mother and dad (who would take over the reading when Mom got too chocked-up with emotion to read) are gone now, and I am approaching my older years. This gave me a sense of family I have not experienced in a few years. Our family, on occasion, would pray for Steve and his mom and the others by name. Five missionaries were martyred for Christ. When i was watching End of the Spear movie. i can't control my tear. We can call this love was Christ . Thank you Steve Saint for your lovely message your father (Nate Saint) at heaven with Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord.
This dude just quoted the Hawaian Bible! My man 😂😂😂. But for real tho, I have always grown up hearing about Jim Elliot and how he died for the Wodoni (I think that's spelt right), but I never really heard about how God used his death to save the people. For real, God is so much bigger than we can ever know in this lifetime.
Your Dad's story changed my life and seeing you and Mincaye on the SCC tour began my true journey as a God follower. I treasure the time we met at Creation NW and I shared how your story had impacted my youth group. May God continue to bless you, Steve.

Hey, Steve. I’m not sure if you’ll ever see this comment, but the story of Operation Auca really inspires me. Just like your dad, I’m a Christian that looooooooves planes. I’m currently teaching Operation Auca to children through CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship), and I’m just really touched by how God uses people to spread the good news. I was just studying the material, and decided to go search up some additional information online, so I found a video of you. Never though I’d see a person mentioned in the lesson I’m teaching 😆. Men were Changed by the Gospel Only in this world
Hello, we are doing a series for our kids in our church currently called “ when I grow up “. Getting them to realize and look up to pastors, missionaries, to show them they to can do exactly what people before us have done for the cause of Christ. What a wonderful story about these man that gave their lives in trying to share Eternal life with this tribe. Sadly at Wheaton College they had a plaque that was dedicated to these men taken down.
They just took the plaque down temporarily to change the wording. "Savages" was replaced with "indigenous people".

I wonder if there were any efforts by the missionaries to pursue legal protection for the Auca so that they wouldn’t lose their habitat to oil companies.
It makes me sad to imagine that even being armed, the missionary men were unable to quickly think of a way to prevent their deaths in a minimally violent way.
I wonder what their ideas were to make peace between the tribe and the oil companies.
They were willing to die because they knew where they were headed should death come but if they killed the Aucas, they would go to hell. I've just finished reading Through the gates of splendour, such a great book.

Leaders of the Huaorani group had expressed to the missionaries that they did not want their private lives molested any longer by the Christian outsiders. Eventually they had no other option but to carry out what they were threatening to do for along time. The Missionaries first made contact with the Huaorani by dropping bags of raw sugar & hard candies into the communities as they flew by. As time went on the missionaries continued to entice contact by air dropping toys, model airplanes & fruits that the people were unaccustomed to. W/in time the missionaries had established themselves well enough to touch ground & freely initiate their methods to evangelize. The missionaries were soon understanding that many individuals were non receptive or defiant to the Westerner's ways- giving up of their traditional beliefs, culture that was familiar to them. Where as others individuals that were more enthralled with the newcomers. The Missionaries had to eventually create divides amongst the communities. Creating "an are you with us or are you with them" scheme. The "followers" were told to leave their more traditional family members and start a new settlement where they were promised a church, school, Rice, sugar - "all of the gifts of God". Fighting & quarrels began within this newly contacted community. As traditional hunters/gatherers, the Huaorani were almost continually on the move. Relocating to new seasonal hunting, fishing $ harvesting areas. The group was soon planning on moving to another camp to Hunt. But the missionaries discouraged the move as that would make it impossible for the missionaries planes to reach the new grounds. The missionaries promised that God would continue to feed them in the form of rice- sugar & whatever else could be brought by plane & motorized boat if they stayed. Strife was smoldering. The missionaries began a routine of taking the "followers" with them in their outgoing flights, removing essential members of the tribe. This made it impossible for the tribe to move all together as an essential family. Eventually the missionaries were met with threats by the Community upon their return landings. The Huaoranis that were being sent off were being use as "poster childs" for furthur Evangelizing efforts for

Seems like it was a foolish decision to do what they did. Looks like they died in vain. Edit: so the people that killed the missionaries later met with children of the missionaries and the children told them about Jesus and they believed?
Well they did invade the territory of these people so talking about they could of killed them well that isn't a great start speaks of the privilege those men felt they had over these people
Is "approach" equated with "invade?" The story is fascinating--easy to find a 5-minute version on UA-cam. They spent a long time attempting to show their good will and build rapport with the people. They did fly-overs, dropped gifts, did a gift exchange, etc. They definitely did feel privileged--privileged to know Christ. Far from seeing themselves as over the Waodani, they undertook the task of reaching out to these people in love, at great risk, with humility and generosity--all because they wanted the Waodani to share in that same privilege. They even decided that if the Waodani attacked them, they would not resist. It's also important to remember the urgency they felt to make contact because of the impending plans the government had to move them. WIthout a bridge of contact, that would surely have resulted in the loss of many Waodani lives. Your impression of the event is entirely understandable withouot the knowledge of the humbing back story!
Plus the whole point of trying to make a friendly contact before the oil company did things it’s own way. You may not agree with their beliefs but they went in love and had an amazing positive impact on those people.

They didn’t invade their land. They create a bridge to exchange opinions about religion. They didn’t come to exploit their resources.

They had no peace before coming to Christ, only bloody murder and he'll to look forward to. Praise the Lord for his grace and for sending his people to this tribe that he chose to deliver from the kingdom of darkness into into his marvellous light.

It’s the exact thing Jesus Christ did for us. “This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you. No one has greater love than to give up one’s life for one’s friends.”

@@FlyDadda Completely true they were in no way working with oil companies. They came in peace with the Gospel of Jesus for a people destroying themselves and others. The Gospel brought loving transformation. One can learn about that transformation.

please listen to the messages..not sad or pointless...i know elisabeth elliot and her work and thousands have been touched by this amazing story....I know Jim Elliots daughter and she is a radiant Christian who loves deeply and I helped her write a book about her parents and their love for the LORD and each other, an amazing story of love for those who did not know the LORD....please research the story more....thousands touched by their sacrifice and their wive's response....open your heart to this story's greater story....
