I've been using a CTEK smart charger for the last few years & can charge through my cigarette lighter.

@@ToTheGarage A quick question to you & your subscribers John. I use my XK8 4.2 fairly infrequently & then short journeys. Would you recommend leaving the car permanently connected to my smart charger? The battery voltage dropped from 12.87 to 11.97 after two weeks left in garage.....Thanks, Bryan

Maybe I'll join you with a highland single malt.
Hopefully it will be a crowd with not enough room to swing a cat!

My boot lights seem to operate randomly and mostly not at all. Any secrets to their operation?

You have a bad earth near the boot latch or at worst a dodgy microswitch on the latch

Another brilliant video . Thought about fitting a LED bulb ?

Yes I have, but im also considering adding bulbs inside the vertical area of the Boot lid to provide far more useful illumination when the lid is open.

My guess is 5 mins if the same as XJ. Along with glovebox light, kerb lights and mirror lights and map lights.

Are those metric minutes or imperial? Same is true with interior lamps with the doors ajar, although it is for a shorter period.

i have an unrelated question. i bet this is common. from left to right lowest and first component on my 2001 xkr is what i assume is an oil cooler. it has gotten scrapped on the high concrete entry to grandkids school. no harm just scuffed. but the two bolts that steady it on the driver side (2 each side) with rubber bushings have broken. the rubber bushing are still there so i can use zip ties. do you know what those bolts are called and what the part number is? i think this is the most beautiful car ever made

Many years ago, I read on the internet a way of drilling a small hole in the XK8 boot floor below the lock through which a piece of wire could be pulled which would be guaranteed to manually release the boot lock in an emergency for those whose battery had gone flat and whose "secret" key method had stopped working or had locked the keys in the boot. I did not try it because my "secret" lock has always worked properly. I'll see if I can find the link to the method.
