    I found that my hand would cramp squeezing multiple glue bottles. I used your glue method and love it! I purchased disposable piping bags (for frosting cakes). Put the bag in a drinking cup and fill 1/4 with glue. Cut off a TINY bit of the tip and use this as your glue bottle. Very quick and very painless. Absolutely love this. Give it a try!

    Glad You finally flipped and glued the batting instead of the fabric and I would suggest that when you get the fabric smooth You can also press it so it will give a nice dry to the glue! 😊 Thanks for Sharing- always great to find alternative techniques for our quilting journey ❤

    I was so glad to try the elmers school liquid glue and it was pretty easy and effective BUT not without problems. Yes, if youre not careful you can dispense too much and it will cause blobs or lumps on the quilt top. The glue stick is such an upgrade...still washable, non toxic, but much easier to apply. I have a baby quilt ready to try so i appreciate your experimentation and refinements for easy basting. "Dot...schmear" you invented a new technique in basting. 😅❤😅

    Love this idea! I will do this on my next quilt! Have you ever rolled your three layers on three separate pool noodles? I find that is easier to keep the 3 layers smooth and I roll out just enough to glue the backer to batting, and top to the batting, then continue to uroll another section until im done. Its been a game chamger for me! ❤

    I can't wait to try this method AFTER you hand quilt this... however I think if you hand quilt thru the scrim on the pellon cotton batting the thinned out glue from you pushing it around so nicely makes it worth a better hand quilting experience I would think... I am using no scrim my next quilt... but stilll may try it... please let me know what you result is so far if you have started this project... I am not worried about the wash out with my glue... I can’t use the spray baste, it gives me terrible headaches. The glue whether it’s the stick or regular school glue won’t “gunk” up the needle and washes out great as long as you use Elmer’s School Glue! I totally understand the hesitation, but it might be worth a try! It’s very inexpensive too (if you’re in the US)

      I do EPP and hand quilt the top too. The papers need to be removed before you place the quilt top on the batting. Depending on how sturdy the material is you can leave the edge papers in and take them out right before you get to those to quilt. The glue stick is a wonderful way to hand quilt, makes it so much easier, especially since I EPP the 2” hexagons

    • @craftdipper
      @craftdipper Місяць тому

      @@StitchObsessed thanks, Miriam. Since asking this, I did try basting one or two hexies with glue, but found it a little fiddly and my fingers managed to get sticky😅.
      I searched UA-cam again and have now learnt a new way to thread baste the papers, where you only catch the corners of the fabric instead of sewing right through the papers. It's really quite quick - quicker than trying to get a dab of glue right on each little corner, avoiding the paper. So I'm all set now in that respect. But I will still be interested to try your glue stick basting for the quilt sandwich😍👍💕

    I don’t think this method will work for me when hand quilting bc I don’t quilt with a hoop and I don’t like my backing to shift. It will be interesting to find out how it works for you on such a large quilt hope you don’t have any problems while hand quilting. I always do the old school method by basting with needle and thread especially on large quilts 🥰

      Ya know, I've never tried thread basting, I should try it. I'm hoping the back won't shift since it's glued! I don't plan to use a hoop either, though I'll probably try it just to see if I like it or not with the bigger project. 🤓

      I sure wish we lived closer. I’d get my husband to help your dad whip that shop into shape so you could really use it!

    Your table wouldn't fit in my 'studio' ~sad face~ I would buy the roll if it wasn't a few repairs to my vehicles and the purchase of a Baby Lock Jazz2 plus at my speed that's a 5 year supply.
