So true. The music and all around vibe these gentlemen have created changed my life . Saw then in Tucson Arizona for there undertow tour. They don't know this. But there my best friends since 94. Lol
Indeed. I first came across them in ‘92. Walking around Lollapalooza when I was stopped in my tracks passing a side stage. It was an unknown band called Tool I would later find out. One of those memories of your life you can almost replay in your mind as if you are watching yourself from out of body
Truth be told, I went to a drug rehabilitation center in the summer of 2019 for opiate abuse.. I finished treatment mid August of that year and then on my birthday ( Aug 30) Tool released this album.... The greatest gift I've ever recieved were sobriety and this song ❤ Thankyou
As a Tool fan I often wonder why other Tool fans have to say weird shit like this all the time. Like they think they're Rust Cohle from True Detective lol
@@brandonhinrichs4393 I think many feel musically intellectual. Most people I've hung out with that talks like that are typically music snobs and very picky with what they'll endorse. That always made me chuckle... its such a crappy way to explore music.
As someone who has attempted (poorly) to create music through jams I can tell you I believe this is how the best music is made. You can feel the emotion they found in the pocket when their spirits connected in that moment. This is quite the result!
I have listened to this album around 100 times. The first time I tried to listen to it I felt it didn't meet my expectations after 12 years. I decided to give it a real chance and since then realized not only did they absolutely burn the roof down with this album but it actually gets better with each listen. I believe this is why some people don't like Tool, at a glance it's not catchy, but if you have the patience and an open mind it'll change your life.
Isn't that great how that happens? Years and years ago a friend tried to turn me on to 10,000 days. My attitude was, "Yeah, what I've heard of it seems fine." A few years ago when Fear Inoculum came out I got the Tool albums I didn't have and started listening. I couldn't have been more wrong about 10,000 days.

I wasn't a huge fan of the album at first, but it was because Maynard is barely audible most of the time, and the tracks are so damn long. But the more I hear it the more I really love this album. I think this is my favorite track.
@@savingstumps haha. The tracks require patience and a long drive (or you gotta sit in the drive way). when the Fear Inoculum album came out, the whole album blew me away (of course) but I almost couldn't believe what I was hearing in Pneuma. The composition and performances in this song ... I mean I love Descending too but this is my #1 pick, from that album. It punches you right in the soul.

I’m anxious to see your reactions to Tool songs pre 96 from the album Undertow and their EP Opiate. Younger, angrier, heavier, but still totally unique and passionate. It’s interesting to go through their discography and observe the evolution of the music, lyrics, attitude, and spiritual path of this band. I also think you would enjoy interviews, docs, funny moments of Tool etc. I find it fascinating that Adam and Tom Morello of Rage were high school buddies in Illinois and played music together. Tom goes to Harvard, and Adam goes to LA to work on special effects for Jurassic Park, Terminator 2. Tom moves to LA and actually introduced Maynard to Adam. Then in 93 these high school friends end up both playing Lollapalooza 93 in different bands. You can’t make this shit up.
My favorite part of this song is when the kick drums come in at 13:08. When you see this song live you can feel it in your soul. Your whole body vibrates.
The drum cam video is amazing, of course, but the studio version definitely is a whole different level of experience. If you also watch other people experience and react to this, it's almost like communion. Like, a come to Jesus moment, where everyone kind of plugs in together in the experience of the song. An amazing work of art.
I love the drum cam, as any Tool fan would. Having said that, you are 100% CORRECT. The guitar, bass and keyboards those two perform is some of the best I've heard from these guys and that is saying something. You can't hear it as well in the drum cam video.
@@blueeyedcowboy8291 Yeah. There's a lot of great songs by Tool, but I feel like this is them near the height of their power. They've done great, and they might do better again, but what they did with this and how it connects to the listener is amazing. Just raw artistic power, speaking a message that grabs you every time you hear it. And everyone else hearing it, the music also takes them over at the same time. A pure marriage with Maynard's lyrics, about returning to that pure breath and spirit, which we all share and we all came from. It's practically a religious experience for me every time. (Which makes it really fun to watch reaction videos for this song... because I almost feel connected, like we're holding hands in church or something. It's crazy.)
@@natel7151 I feel the same way. I love every reaction to this song, seeing it through others eyes for the first time. All four members are absolute masters of their craft, and seem to get better with age. The lyrics, though few, seem to sum up their entire discography in one song. It is completely a religious experience.
I actually like the drum cam version much better. I think the audio is leveled in a way I like better in the live version. Also I think his voice sounds more passionate, and real. Even the guitar accents sound better. Studio version has less soul to me. To each to his own. :)
The real hidden gem on this album is Culling Voices. This track builds up and up and up and up... And then there are at least the fattest riffs, like an explosion. Amazing...
Maynard’s most incredible skill to me is the fact that he writes the lyrics after the instrumental aspects of the song have already been recorded. Being able to not only come up with some of the most profound lyrics you’ll ever hear , but also phrase them so that they fit perfectly within the nuances of the wildly complex instrumental parts that the band writes…. No one, and I mean no one, can do so much as well as him. He’s a virtuoso.
I'm always impressed in how he takes the mood and atmosphere of the instrumental track that he is given and is able to form lyrics and melodies that fit right in. People complain about the lack of his vocals on this album, and I do love me some Maynard vocals. But he lets the instrumentals stand out where they deserve to stand out without having him singing over them. Those instruments are doing a hell of a lot of singing on their own without Maynard and he realizes that.
I think a lot of people have the misconception that Maynard does the lyrics after the fact. He has said in a interview recently, that he gets recordings of concepts from the boys and listens to them while driving, working the farm, housework and such. This enables him to grasp the feel of the track and create lyrics. I have to believe that it's all 4 working to polish off the concepts and create such masterpieces. Then it all gets put together with a producer and tracks get recorded.
This is a direct result of a band that’s found away to stay together and create incredible content as they have grown older. We all gain wisdom as we grow and these guys have harnessed that wisdom!
Keep up the great fight my friend, lol. I've commented on every one of Polo's Tool reaction videos, to check out Schism. One day hopefully he'll have his mind blown by it.
It's that Diezel amp he plays through with his Les Paul. I had the opportunity to record some tracks at a studio with that exact setup and it sounds effing amazing. I heard this version of Adam's sound originally pop up in 10,000 days and then here in Fear Inoculum.. Hands down, best guitar tone out there.
Been a fan for 30 years, I have travelled through life, raised three kids, buried my father, had an infant when the towers came down in 01, been as scared as I have ever been in life and every time....TOOL was there, the most cerebral and talented and organic band on the planet, I literally grew old with them, I will love this band until I am no more
I’ve had this album since it came out; it’s lived in my car stereo ever since. This song in particular gets played over and over at volumes that could only be described as ‘mildly insane’. It’s bloody brilliant.
I want to hear your thoughts on more of the Undertow album. Obviously, it's not the same style as their more progressive work, but it definitely laid the gauntlet down for what to expect from them. I recommend Bottom.
I like most reaction channels for sheer entertainment ,but I appreciate only a select few, like yours, so much more because of how deeply the music hits you. You have a great understanding and appreciation for the deeper level that some of these bands can hit you with. I love that you love the intricacies just like many of us in the comments section do. You're not just a reactor, you're a fan just like your audience. I truly enjoy your channel and look forward to seeing your notifications pop up. Thanks for what you do
Im glad you listened to the studio version so you could experience the other awesome aspects of the song that didnt really come through in the drum cam video.
I’ve been a big Tool fan since I was about 16, I’m 40 now 😢 lol but when this album came out and I heard Pneuma for the first time it reduced me to tears. After 13 years away as a band it takes something special to invoke such emotions. Thank you Tool. Great reaction bro 👌
Maynard has stated that his unique cadences come from his time as a cross country runner, and having to find different cadences/patterns for breathing. It seems to come natural to him to find effective ways to deliver his singing.
I’ve seen TOOL in concert twice. Love TOOL!! I LOVE watching your reactions to all the songs from my childhood! Bee Gees, AC/DC, etc!! I’m a Jan.’74 baby. You rock, Polo! I LOVE watching ur face as u hear songs for the 1st time! I’m totally subscribed!!! 🤗👍💯❤️ Have u done any Korn vids yet? Rock on!
This song is incredibly special to me. I knew about tool and I enjoyed them, but I didn't truly delve into them until i heard this and it was honestly a spiritual experience. It gets better the more you listen to it too.
This song played a role in my Christian re-awakening over the past few years. "Child, wake up... Wake up, remember." The true mystics of all religions speak of a something eternally present for us in the here and now, if only we will awaken from the dream/nightmare we find ourselves in- that "in which we live and move and have our being." Your appreciation for Tool got me to subscribe to your channel.
The driving guitar part and when Danny comes in starting at 13:54 in your video I believe is the closet we have heard recent Tool sound like a classic metal band and it gets me headbanging every time.
You really need to follow this up with the drum cam of Danny playing this... it brings a new level of appreciation to what he actually does for the band.
I'll leave the comment up for the algorithm but you corrected my ignorance in the video. I'm acknowledging that you've reacted to the drum cam version! Rock on brother!
It is, in my honest opinion, one of the most emotion-extracting songs I've experienced, and I liked Tool when I was 16 in 1992.... This is my favorite....we clamored for years for them to come back....Thank you, Tool....! Your dedication is AWESOME!
Commenting twice cause I can haha watching your progression from first tool reaction to now has been extremely rewarding for me. The fact is, not everyone gets Tool, and that’s fine. But if your brain is built perfectly for Tool, the journey of discovery with their music is life changingly powerful. We HAVE to get you to a Tool show bro. With the way you like them, you will never be the same. They channel a form of spirituality live that takes you to a different place. It’s an awakening.
I am so glad you finally got around to the studio version of Pneuma. When this album dropped, and I sampled every track like a school boy at the ice cream truck, I knew immediately that this track was going to be solid gold.
Yes Polo, Maynard is a genius with his vocals. He doesn’t make his voice the overpowering sound of the band. Like David Lee Roth was overboard. Maynard is unassuming and just another amazing part of the collection of these musicians. Just awesome!
Promise? I mean, I’d love to trust you, as you said. But I just don’t really believe it’s that easy to “trust” you. Especially after what you did with Ben Braddock. That trust needs to be earned back, lady.
You should watch the drum cam again. Imagine how much more you’ll be impressed 🤷🏻♂️ Been listening since ‘93. Seen them 13 times. Will always be at the top of my list.
Lol that comment had me laughing. Had 2 shroom trips in my life and the 2nd was less and I just jammed out to this album. It really just hits you like a wave you can FEEL the sound
It's not just their greatest hits that are stellar, they've literally NEVER created a song where I would truly say it's anything less than absolutely brilliant! And Pneuma is their greatest!
The timing signature alone through this song gets you feeling its original groove. In Stoic philosophy, Pneuma is the vital spirit and creative soul within a person. Love that!
Now that this masterpiece has joined their pantheonic catalogue, we just wonder when will they give us the chance to be rejoined by them and brought back to counscienceness. And this album like the previous ones but really in this one is a perfect reflection of a band that after all this years together, knowin' Theirselves so well, It could only bring magic and pure awesomeness
This song is like an experience....I especially love how I guess Adam..must turn his guitar back up..or faces the amps..then the feedback slightly starts again. ..like the whole song could start over again
All the ages of this earth and I received the privilege of being born at the perfect time where these guys could capture my soul as a teenager, change my perception of what music means to me in general, and witness the entire evolution and journey of this sonic movement, has been nothing short of a divine gift. I bought this album the very day it came out. Most of us waited 13 long years for this and kept the faith in this band. On my first listen of this track I got that tingle in my spine and rush of warmth inside me that confirmed that my musical heroes had not let me down. It’s probably selfish of me to wish for another album as they’ve already enhanced my life so much. But I’m doing it anyway✌🏼
I loved this album immediately upon first listen...like now, 3 1/2 years later I still remember the headphones listening session, and the vibes I was absorbing. I sense that a lot of Tool fans were let down by this album, whether because they didn't think it was as good, or as listenable or whatever, or maybe because they were let down by this being the product of a 13-year hiatus. But yeah, I didn't sweat that. One thing I noticed, after a bunch of your reactions, is that I've definitely been sleeping on the 10,000 Days album from '06- I ate it up when it came out, and for a few years after, but at some point I think I was jaded that THAT was the last album we got before a 13-year hiatus...kinda the inverse of the Fear Inoculum critique. So it was until your dives in that it clicked again for me, and hot damn, 10,000 Days is a fantastic album. So thanks for that, Polo🤘
I actually think that the live version with Danny on the drum cam sounds amazing. I just think you listened to them in the wrong order. IMO you’ll have a greater appreciation for this song if you listen to the studio version first and then the drum cam version second. Anyhow-as always-wonderful reaction.
@@redherring4335 just sonically, you can hear so much more to the vocal melody, clarity of bass and effects, as well as overall sound. Being at a Tool show is definitely the best tho.
I refer to the tempo of his singing as “syntax”, but I’m not sure if that’s correct. The switching up of the time signatures, for me, gives it an uneasy feeling. If it was just straight 4/4 in every song, you could just put your brain on auto pilot and not even pay attention. But you can’t do that when it’s constantly switching up, it forces you to pay attention. That’s what I love about it.
I remember the day this album came out, I was visiting my girlfriend in college 5 hours away. Perfect trip for a TOOL album. This song stuck out so much!
I also did a deep dive of Pneuma while on mushrooms. It took over 2 hours to get through the song because i kept pausing and rewinding asking myself, "did you just f'kin' hear that!?!?" If you want to experience a connection to the secrets of the universe, to feel that song flow through your soul, well our little fungus friends are happy to guide you.
This band does have some very interesting music and I'm enjoying it very much I love dancer fresh and new and has something different and unique to offer its listener.
Polo a nice touch I like you changed recently is your siting position, you’re more directly at the camera and look at the camera more. You’re a very engaging person and it’s clear you’re more comfortable opening up in front of the camera. Before you would be angled looking off at a screen to your side. Please keep opening up and engaging with us, you’re a really cool guy.
When I can't sleep, ill put this album on and fall right to sleep. Also, I have some very good dreams listening to it while I sleep. If you haven't done it, give it a try.
Alot of people tell reactors to just do the drumming video of danny instead of the studio version of song missing out on so much more. Glad you reacted to the studio version too.
I wasn't but I'm a real fan and also wanted to hear it. Glad I did because while I love the drummer video it doesn't compare to this in my opinion. Oddly enough I thought the song was just good from the cam version I was so wrong. This track is everything.

No other band will ever match Tools quality they’ve all got it. Aligned into the universe this is why we came
This is a direct result of a band that’s found away to stay together and create incredible content as they have grown older. We all gain wisdom as we grow and these guys have harnessed that wisdom!
The masters of musical edging!!!
Enough is enough. Its time for Third Eye. I dont quite understand how it hasnt been requested more.
I second this. With lyrical analysis too please
My new favourite Tool song, absolutely love it from start to finish
I am going to humbly, and for the umpteenth time, say that "Schism" needs to be reacted to soon.
Keep up the great fight my friend, lol. I've commented on every one of Polo's Tool reaction videos, to check out Schism. One day hopefully he'll have his mind blown by it.
Adams guitar crunch on this one is OHHHHH WEEEEE. The way those power chords ring out nice and thick 🔥
Jones brand thick n' chunky riffs, made with only the finest locally-sourced ingredients.
@@MatthewParker21 100% agree
I watch a lot of Tool reactions because I love seeing Tool fans being born, I love that you did a Tool Tuesday!
We waited a long time for this album
And it was worth every second
When I first heard Pneuma, I had it on repeat for at least an hour.
I want to hear your thoughts on more of the Undertow album. Obviously, it's not the same style as their more progressive work, but it definitely laid the gauntlet down for what to expect from them. I recommend Bottom.
Bottom is fucking extreme.
Favorite song of all fucking time. It taps into a part of my brain that is almost hypnotic. Yes, genius.
Been loving your TOOL reactions. I hope your able to one day see them live in concert. It's an amazing experience.

Thanks for what you do
My introduction to Danny Carey playing this song here: ua-cam.com/video/b35ZaPzIoj8/v-deo.html
Im glad you listened to the studio version so you could experience the other awesome aspects of the song that didnt really come through in the drum cam video.
Now that you’ve heard half the catalog…….what do you think??😂😂😂😂. Your reactions are great bro. Great work, looking forward to more. Maybe Eulogy?🤔
Now that you know the track and can follow it, have you rewatched the drum cam?
Rock on!
Oh hi. I've been a hip hop head since the 80s and have a well rounded musical taste, but I'm OBSESSED with this song. OBSESSED. 🤘🤘🤘
Another killer reaction!! I would recommend Jambi next, buddy.
Genius! Yes, indeed they are all on another level. What about Jambi next, can’t wait for you to experience what Justin does in Jambi.
The driving guitar part and when Danny comes in starting at 13:54 in your video I believe is the closet we have heard recent Tool sound like a classic metal band and it gets me headbanging every time.
You didn't mess it up that's part of a reaction video it's good to hear how you feel in your heart about certain music we listen to
Glad to be back again with you brother ❤ Love, health and wealth to you ❤
Just saw them saturday. The absolute best concert ever!!

Culling Voices next man. It might be my favorite track on the album.
It is, in my honest opinion, one of the most emotion-extracting songs I've experienced, and I liked Tool when I was 16 in 1992....
This is my favorite....we clamored for years for them to come back....Thank you, Tool....! Your dedication is AWESOME!
My fav Tool song .... So far😂

The studio version is a billion times better. When you are there in person, yes it’s a different story.
The drum cam will let you see what Danny does, but also get a feel for how awesome they are live.
Details and precision.
Thanks for doing this one. Don’t know if my comment was the one that made you do it, but we’re here nonetheless.
