Young people today get " Triggered " by everything. Then there are the " PORNOUNS" For Christ's sake. Use the wrong one and you may have a lawsuit on your hands.
I love how it’s still normal to give new guys a hard time. I was young when I came into the industry and there were guys that were older than me that couldn’t handle it for some reason. When people give you a hard time it usually makes you better for some odd reason
I remember being a greenhorn like it was yesterday. Heavy industrial hvac-r background. I was lucky enough to have some good guys teaching me. Old salts that knew more than I'll ever forget. They were brutal on new guys. If they were hard on you and gave you shit it meant they liked you and saw potential. I saw several young men with zero work ethic come and go. The old guys wouldn't even give them the time of day let alone F with them. It's a right of passage in the trades. Now as a journeyman myself I enjoy passing knowledge on to the next generation. Only to the ones that are willing. Life comes full circle.
Facts feel like it’s part of the industry but yes a lot of guys can’t take it you think that’s bad wait till you have that helicopter customer that knows everything but isn’t doing the actual job but knows the best and fastest way to do it all
I've grown up in it in equipment shops and custom cropping shops and damn would I get hounded non stop but would give it back even as a 8-9 yr old or even younger still a operator to this day lol now we get after yearlings r green horns

Cam 10/10 get yourself an aircat 1870 for a 1” hog. Mighty light and hits like a freight train. Let Carson keep using that boat anchor until he looks bigger than woody from toy story.
But that boat anchor hits almost 1000 ft-lbs more than the Air Cat! Just gotta eat more spinach. Maybe I'll pick one up for the second truck and we can do some comparisons.
On cat equipment I have found once the grease in the rotex housing turns to soup I take the small cover off at the base of the boom right in front of the center swivel and use my electric pump I use for hydraulic services and suck out all the Molly soup after I make the repair. Love this Channel, you guys kick ass. Glad to be part of this brotherhood of field mechanics.
I’m a field tech for a Komatsu Dealer, pressing the pinion out is usually a 50/50 shot weather it comes out or weather the lower cover or bearing breaks. We’ve even cracked housings in two pressing them apart, they are always very tight. Typically we give the pinion a chance in the press but usually end up torching the bearings out. You did nothing wrong, ask any Komatsu tech.
Man that bearing explosion brings back a scary memory. A similar thing happened to me, I had a bearing explode in my press at about 10 tons of pressure. The one piece hit me right in my eye and thank my luck stars it wasn’t one of the Razor sharp chunks that hit me. I immediately went online and ordered two good Uvex face sheilds, one for my service truck and one in the shop. I also squished my pinky finger once, same thing bunch of stitches to hold all the “crab meat” in there. Lol
Thanks for the great content! Do love the 490 quarry press! I recall blowing apart the plate housing myself on a PC350 so don't worry it happens😅. A little thing I've learnt when your faced with no press carrying out job like this or final drive repair. Heat HYD oil in an electric frypan. *Don't heat bearing past 120°C (please double check temp) when toasty the inner bearing "should" just drop straight over the shaft into the cup and saves some puckering.
Great Video. This reminds me of when I worked at an AGCO Allis Farm Implement Dealer back in the mid nineties. We used to rebuild water pumps on Allis engines. We would put them in the pressure and press the old bearing assembly and seal of the impeller and housing. About 1/2 the time it would not come apart nicely and have cast iron shrapnel all over the place. It’s nice to have a press, but you have to use the power responsibly. Thanks for the education and comedy.
"what are you guys at home doing later". Man I'm literally in a hurricane waiting to go service generators when it passes. Thank you for having these videos to entertain me!!
Finally got around to watch this one on the plane home. One of my first jobs out on my own, had to flush out the shavings with diesel, remove, repair and put it back. Granted I don't have a crane, or impact larger than 1/2" so it's slightly more work.
i work as a maintenance on powder coating lines for agro equipment (John deere, kubota, fendt etc.) and i can confirm daddy jokes are 3/4 of our work communication and even same joke is repeated throughout months and never gets old :D

Sometimes an abnormal situation requires an abnormal solution....Nicely done! Check out Enerpac cylinders & power units. They may give you a demo set!?? Great video guys! 👍😁
I think I have it figured out. The seal carrier has knobs on it so the press ring wasn't sitting totally flat. If there are multiple evenly spaced knobs then all the force was focused on them instead of the circumference of the ring. I've rebuild dozens of swing drives and if the seal carrier isn't flat or if the press ring doesn't hug the pinion I get the torch out.
the extended version is awesome! I cant stop fuckin laughing these guys are dope! !m currently trying to start my apprenticeship this fall. so the advice is quite helpful.
From experience we’ve always cut the outer bearing off with a torch removed it and all the balls then uses a 4.5 angle grinder at a 60 ish degree angle or more to avoid the gear or plate across the race make a cut on both sides almost all the way thru then use the air hammer to crack the race in 2 ! In this case you still would have had to regrind the shaft but possibly would have saved that housing piece
Our apprentices at work usually don't understand the references we "older guys" use (I'm 36 by comparison to these 18 year olds). Always nice to see the FNG being shown the ways of the master, in hanging s*** on the FNG.

Instead I just switched off from when I started to when I left at night; after just getting over being put down all day and getting the silent treatment when I had actual questions. Carson should count his lucky stars!
After pressing the first housing house, instead of pressing the bearing off, could you have cut the race and then after removing the rollers, heated after in the inner race on the shaft and then pressed/knocked it off? ive done something similar to some final drives
Dude when I grew up in the 90s the old dudes were brutal. That's just how guys are tho they bust ballz and harass you. That's honestly how you know they like you. Otherwise they tell you to fuck off and leave.
Well the overhyped drama about the bearing braking. Yes that was for the views but in reality bearings break when they come off. I mean they've been on there for a long time. There can be galling there could be all kinds of things affecting it. I've had a lot of them break. It's a risk you take but it's already broken. So what does it matter? It just made your job easier. You didn't have to continue working on it for hours to get it to finally slip off And technically you didn't have to risk harming the shaft by cutting the bearing off. So this actually worked in your favor now if you have issues putting it back together now you have some real problems
