In Rock was recorded in late 69. Purple would do gigs, come back to the studio, record something, go back out and gig, etc. In Rock was released in the UK, I think in January, but not in the states until June that year. I do remember hearing Black Noght on the radio in early 70 (at the time, not included on the album, only released as a single. The 25th anniversary edition includes 2 versions of Black Night). In case you can't tell, Purple is my favorite band.

"Child in Time" is a profound protest song that juxtaposes the callousness of a 'blind man' using the world as a playground with the tragic loss of young lives. It underscores the heartbreaking paradox of soldiers, many essentially children, being compelled to die for causes they barely understand, even while they are not legally old enough to consume alcohol. This highlights the incongruity between the pressure to face death on the battlefield and their otherwise excessive restriction at home. This song is as applicable today as it was then.
Deep Purple are considered one of the 3 most important bands in the history of hard/heavy rock music. Still, I consider them to be very underrated! Singer, Ian Gillain is one of the most iconic voices in rock history, Blackmore is without doubt one of the top 10 guitar players in history, the bass player was doing his job and had also great vocals. Finally the drummer, Ian Paice has to be one of the best drummers ever. Overall, Deep Purple are one of the most skilled, high-level musicianship bands ever. Btw, I think Child in Time is one of the best songs ever and their best song but "Burn", "Highway star" are also 2 very very good songs. Not even gonna mention "Smoke on the water". Finally, if you want to hear something a bit different from the, check out "When a blind man cries"

Preston, this just made my Friday!! You are now a Child In Time!! Just your reaction 'F#$K' was worth seeing this! Amazing, beautiful piece! Yes, it's a classic. As another said, Rainbow 'Stargazer' - it has the same guitarist as Child In Time, but with Dio on vocals (& Cozy Powell on drums - AMAZING!). Great vid! Happy weekend bro!
this one of the best songs ever played PERIOD
When the guitar solo starts i got shivers every time. And I heard It thousands of times
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers, Knocking At Your Back Door, Smoke on the Water, Space Truckin', Burn, Hush
Stormbringer, arguably their most kickass song
They all say it started with the big 3, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath!
Great review! Please do Highway Star by Deep Purple.
You made my day bro!
Peace!!!!!!!!!!
The crescendo is outstanding ! My heart pumps a lot more every time
Hey..fellow beaulieu 👉
Mountain - Mississippi Queen. An american classic from 1970. Raw and heavy
Yess! Gotta do it!
Man you are certainly busting out the classic metal songs! AND I'M ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT!
Deep purple metal? Ok boss
@@wessyh Yeah, they ain't metal but they, Zepps and mostly Sabbath are responsible for the whole thing.
Not metal by today's standards, but back in them days it was
@@bavhavs775 exactly, without those bands who knows what metal we would have now
Ian Gillan the original Jesus of Jesus Christ superstar! ☮️
Deep Purple is a fucking legend. So many legendary songs from a band of legends. Child in time, smoke on the water... so many.
Classic band...classic song...and it ain't the only one in their catalog....so many in the rock/metal industry owe their SOULS to these guys.....BELIEVE me. Classics notwithstanding (meaning--stuff before 1980), the ENTIRETY of "Perfect Strangers" will explain plenty all by itself.
Deep purple - Strange Kind of Woman! Live version!
I ❤ this tune🎶🎸🎹
Lalena, Donovan cover..
One of the most underrated rock groups of ALL TIME!!! I grew up with them. Most influential and the Part of the Unholy Trinity of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin (for me in that order). The quintessential protest song not to mention the originators of Head Banging!!! Please do more DP. I know this band (personal friends for 20 years now) from day one, and my family is to pay my respects to them with playing THIS song at my wake!!! THANK YOU for your review
I firstheard this 1970 and it was unforgettable. It was something new. I just loved it
omg, the grin on your face during the solos is priceless :-)
Jethro Tull - locomotive breath. Its got an epic flute solo!
The same Jethro Tull Grammy winners 😂
Quite simply the greatest heavy rock album of all time. The five best musicians in the world creating a miracle beyond description.
Absolutely one of the best songs ever in the history of mankind.
Led Zeppelin - since I've been loving you
Must, must, must react to this
Patrizio Volpes Yes!!!
but the live version from 73 or 74. strongly recommended!!! iconic song
Deep Purple were epic. Led Zeppelin were mediocre at best.
@@BlitzkriegBoogie well.... thats your opinion and also a question of style what people like more
Rainbow - Kill The King (Live in Munich 1977)
Yes! Not Stargazer. Kill the King is so much better.
@@WWCLife nah, studio version...
BEST ROCK ALBLUM. OF ALL TIME.
King, that was the finest description of Child In Time, coming from you, and yes this song is really one of the best in rock history, so thank you for this great podcast of yours. Cheers from Munich, Germany 😊😅 great performance 👏👌🇩🇪👍😉
Preston, meet Ian Gillan.
You're quickly learning that the greatest decade in heavy rock are the 70's. No other decade even comes close.
Yup, and it's not even open for debate!
Damn right!
Nope! it started mid sixties!
@@frv84 one could make that argument I suppose, but that's before my "time".
😉
@@randycramer1013 I'm quite sure that the bands you like have started playing in the sixties.. most of them! ;)
Deep Purple - Highway Star & Space Truckin' please!
THE BEST Jason!
Jason Allen
Yep - but needs to be live versions from Made in Japan!
Yeah , space truckin made in Japan....now there's a track with layers for ya 😂😂😂😂 lots and lots of layers ........IAN PACE ON THE DRUMS ....oh yeah
Paicey... underrated drummer...!!!!
LEGENDS FOREVER
I remember the first time I found Preston's channel, I thought what the hell. I am bored anyways. All I have to say is I am so happy I was bored. You can obviously see his reactions are sincere. Love when people realize their perceived world if music is small.
Thanks for being around Preston.
1970 soung 49 years
genius of the time :)
Grand Funk Railroad - I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home) the full album version would probably be up your alley.
When you see someone loving something you love.. That's an amazing feeling man
At 3:02…….DAMN! BEAUTIFUL…..JUST FN BEAUTIFUL! WHAT A VOICE! EARGASMIC…..NOT EVEN KIDDING! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Deep Purple "Highway Star" from classic live-album "Made in Japan"
COMON BRAAAAA! You've heard "SMOKE ON THE WATER"
The live version is out of this world
Created in a time, as an outstanding generation of musicians published dozens of phenomenal songs EVERY WEEK.
At 2.30 I'm thinking, dude you've heard nothing yet. Strap in for the ride.
Lol he has no idea
charlie fc I was thinking the same thing. Man, when Ian hits the high notes he’s gonna faint.
Exactly..thats what I was saying...just wait for the solo lol
I remember this back in the mid seventies when I was in the army great music back then.👍
Ben c'est encore toujours de la très bonne musique , et pour très très très très longtemps .
ONE of the best music ever written almost beyond worlds :)
FROM AUSTRALIA , GREAT REACTION TO A DEEP PURPLE CLASSIC , 50 YEARS OLD
Rob Halford is the father, Bruce Dickinson the son, Ian Gillan the holy ghost & Ronnie James Dio brings it all together nicely as the amen. THESE are the gods of Metal & Rock.
There are pretenders to their thrones, but they will never be taken.
All praise!
If you ask any of the aforementioned ..
About JS Bach ..
You might just be surprised .. (Ask Yngwie)
Listen to "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" (Symphony X) ..
Then listen to Mass in B Minor (BWV 232)
The point being ..
In what manner did Bach sign every piece of his compositions?
Preston, I rewind your reactions, because you can see they're pure joy; who doesn't love that?
We've just listened to the greatest song in rock and roll history!! So billiantly powerful!
These guys were relentless on this song. They tore it up
Fantastic reaction video, I've watched it at least 10 times and I can't get tired of A, listening to one of England's greatest bands, and B, your reaction to Ian Gillan's vocal, I love the way his talent touches your soul here, it certainly does mine 😀😀
More excellent Deep Purple... Highway Star, Smoke on the Water, My Woman From Tokyo, Perfect Strangers, Knockin' at your Back Door
And Burn!!!
Space truckin
I play this song everytime im pissed off and it makes me happy again. Purple did so e great songs,.
This is the greatest metal song from that era. From Ian Gillan's voice to Richie Blackmore on guitar & Jon Lord on keyboards they were fantastic & this was their best song. I'm really glad someone has done this...
Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses. They were the masters of composition and they are the top band of all time if it comes to climate. They loved to make long songs, their albums were like 70 min+ long. You're gonna love them. People call some bands "underrated" and "unique" but if there is really such a band - it's Type O Negative.
He better start with My Girlfriends Girlfriend and the Christian Woman
Cristobal Gevert Christian woman is my fav❤️ I would love for him to do type o
Christian Woman all the way thru the end of Black #1.
The live version of "Burn" (1974?) might be worth a listen too.
Deep Purple "April" is dooooope. Long classical intro with a raging rocker behind it. I have a feeling you'll love it!
One of the best songs and guitar solo ever.
