    I truly appreciate the free lessons. Can't believe people are actually complaining. To all the ingrates: if he is going too fast for you to grasp the lesson, play it over until you catch on. Or you can pay someone to teach you at your own pace. But quit complaining...these lessons are FREE!

    hi Tom :) my first guitar teacher, a year ago in this day I was watching this video with excitement and something nice feeling in my heart, now I can play bunch of songs including bar cords, solo playing, and so on. I want to thank you again, I won't forget you:)

  • @TheGuitarLesson

    Yeah, all of the pinky stretching and coordinated movements feel weird in the beginning, but you'll get used to it with time. There's really no trick or secret to getting it right, you just need to practice often, which develops your finger strength and coordination.
    So just keep at it, and you'll see and hear the improvement really soon.

    Outstanding!! I studied piano for 12 years. I have repeatedly tried to get someone to help me relate the strings and scales of a piano to the guitar. Instructors just looked at me like I was nuts!!! Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I'm thrilled. Now I can relate. I love it!

    nice guitar lesson. its like an all-in-one package. teaching them coordinate with their picking and finger fret board positioning. and introducing the newbies the door to lead guitars. like it.

    I'm a beginner and I've read tutorials on how to play guitar, but i never understood it just by reading. This is exactly what I needed: some way to remember the strings (I use to play violin, so I often confuse the guitar string with the violin ones, even though there are two extra) and some warm up exercise to help with my finger placement, along with the most common scale (C Major). I learn best by visually seeing, this was big help!

    Also, remember that a guitar that is set up well is easier to play. You can also put light gauge strings on your guitar so it doesn't hurt your fingers as much. Have a great day.

    • @TyZimm
      @TyZimm 10 років тому

      I always use light strings. Not because they are better for my fingers, but they just sounds so much better. It's more of a lighter tone then the thicker strings that have a heavier tone.

    the "/" is standard tablature, it means that you have to slide to the given note.
    So 0/7 means you slide up to fret 7, instead of just plucking it. If it were the other way around, for example 7\5, it would mean that you have to slide down from fret 7 to fret 5.

    that was a great lesson!
    i have a guitar teacher and i've told him that i wanted to learn guitar guitar not classical guitar but he keeps teaching me classical, he says it's good to have the 'basics' but he's been teaching me classical for a year now! and i still don't know how to play a single chord.
    so, i went out the other day and bought myself a cheap acoustic guitar. been trying to play a few chords.
    i really have a feeling that these lessons are gonna help alot. so, thank you so much!

    My older brother (who taught me how to play guitar when I was a kid but I stopped in my early teens so now I am here because I'm trying to relearn, haha) used the acronym "Elephants And Dogs Giggle Before Eating" to remember the strings. It's silly, but I still remember it years later!
    Anyway, your video is super helpful. :)

    Lesson 2 teaches a different skill set (chords), so you can move on quickly and practice the things you learn in this lesson and lesson 2 simultaneously. Moving on to lesson 3 is still somewhat straight forward, but thats where it get more challenging, where you need to learn to change between chords.

    @zacgamer01 Tabs and chord diagrams are 2 separate things. The chord diagrams' sole function is to show you the fingering for a specific chord, while tabs are music sheets for guitarists, showing you what to fret throughout a song.
    You're good with either the electric or acoustic, you'll have to learn the same things on both.

    @fingersk8dan Yep, practice! As a beginner, you're still looking down at the strings while you're plucking and looking at your fretting hand while forming chords, this is totally natural in the beginning.
    With time (and practice), you will get used to the guitar, get used to where the strings are and will be able to pluck any string or form any chord without even looking. You don't need to stress about it, it'll come naturally with enough practice and time.

  • @TheGuitarLesson
    @TheGuitarLesson  12 років тому

    @ElenaXVI Yep, it's hard at first, especially the F, that takes weeks, if not months. But don't stress over it, every starts out like this. Just keep at it, practice it, and it'll come with time.

    @TreyColwell You're probably deadening the string. Check your fretting hand fingers, make sure you're holding the string correctly, and that no other fretting fingers are touching it by accidents. Also, make sure you're not deadening it with your plucking hand by accident.

    It doesn't damage the guitar. There are whole songs based entirely around plucking with the fingers, and while "different" is true, that doesn't make it a bad thing.

  • @TheGuitarLesson
    @TheGuitarLesson  13 років тому

    @2lwa7esh Yep, most people are at first, since the backwards bit is a more natural movement of the fingers. Just keep on practicing both directions, and the other part will catch up as well.

    If your pinkie can't reach the fourth fret, you need to practice stretching your fingers. I had to do the same thing when I started playing cello so I could reach my fourth finger to where it was supposed to be. Just open and close your fingers as much as possible and this should help.

    The X is a muted note, so you'll need to just touch it slightly with one of your fingers to deaden the given string.
