I've listened to this song a million times. On first listen you just casually said, "It's funny - the drums are the most soulful instrument in the song" and I'm picking myself off the floor from the insight.
The drums create all the tension and longing in this song for me. The way Britt hardly uses the snare drum in the first rounds of those explosive chorus parts makes me feel desperate for the beat because he denies it in such a powerful moment, and when you need it the most. It’s a very clever dynamic choice particularly when he’s been so metronomic throughout.
Fun fact that I found online apparently the lead singer was on the verge of insanity when delivering those screams and was in psychological care for some time.
@@gman0047 Also his miss you's were directed at his younger brother. After he started playing more and more often and gigging he wasn't home and wasn't around his brother anymore : ( Really sad when you think about it. He wasn't ready for what he was getting into.
Dude. Their drummer is incredible. I love the song Washer. The way he plays the drums tells a sad story by itself. He really is a musician first and drummer 2nd.
Slint is definitely one of the most criminally overlooked and underappreciated bands ever. They were so ahead of their time. And this song is, IMO, one of the greatest ever recorded. I remember discovering it on the Kids movie soundtrack in the mid 90's, and being completely blown away by it. Just stunning. A damn near perfect song. 🤘
My brother in law apparently jammed/had a side project with britt in the early 90s. Which was really cool cause I am a huge fan of this album - and he doesn’t even realize that the album is seen as like a classic album. I didn’t even realize he played or liked music. Cause he definitely isn’t into finding new and hood music -he is just a normal “dad”. But A song from “Tweez” came on my phone when we were smokin on the porch. And he was like “whoa is that coming from your phone?” And he recognized it. And then talked about it cause he’s kinda a redneck sorta guy - and he was like “yeah I tried to play in a band with this really annoying kid named Britt.” Which I thought was hilarious. And then told a couple stories he probably hasn’t thought of in decades and talked about some girl they were interested in - and some other stories. - and I could tell that just hearing that and talking about it made him feel really good. lol 😂 But yeah He’s actually in a few “UA-cam documentaries” talking about slint and the side bands. It’s pretty easy spot him. Haha
Was dying at that thumbnail. Keep that thumbnail creativity going. Anyway, amazing song, thank you for the reaction. I also want to thank you for your consistency.
They were so cool, and so young! Watched a cool documentary about Slint a little while ago. I never thought about them in regards to TMV but it makes sense now that I think about it. Steve Albini continues to be one of my favorite producers.
This video hits on many levels for me. The patreon viewer speaks of being moved to tears. I became a big fan of Dean when I saw him moved to tears by a Tool song. This album, (and this song in particular) have been a big part of my life for a long time. Check out the Documentary "bread crumb trail" for a deep dive. This, (As you point out) soulful drummer, also plays on Pod by The Breeders. Steve Albini is the common thread between the two records.
whole album is amazing. breadcrumb trail and good morning captain are probably the easiest listens, washer is a very slow burn with extremely satisfying climax. nosferatu man took me very many listens to start enjoying but now i like it
Busting my moves from the back of the bus🤙, glad to see this review. Epic end to an amazing album ❤ Slint, We miss youuuu!!! P.s I wasnt the guy who made the call✌
U should totally check out Bedside Table by Bedhead! one of the seminal songs in slowcore alongside other such bands like Codeine, Red House Painters, and Duster
If I may give a suggestion please, you should check out Black Midi and get a react vid going. Their new song, John L, would be a perfect addition to your current line up of videos.

I’ve listened to it well above 100 times for sure
You can tell by how crucial the drums are in the arrangements that the drummer was the bands composer. Britt Walford is like a musical savant
The drums are so interesting from slint
I agree..that's always been my favorite part of Spiderland
Awesome pick! That final screams always break my heart.

Slint is one of the only bands that can continually give my goosebumps

awesome story.
Drums are simply majestic on this one
indeed!
One of my all-time favorite songs! So hyped to see you do this one.
Was dying at that thumbnail. Keep that thumbnail creativity going. Anyway, amazing song, thank you for the reaction. I also want to thank you for your consistency.
cool, you bet.
I saw them live in NYC 10 years ago in their last tour. Amazing band.
Slint! Good call from Chris 👊

Your thumbnail immediately caught my eye. It's very cool.
I liked this song quite a bit. 👍
My favorite splint song.
was not expecting this, but spiderland is an amazing album! you should react to don aman as well
you definitely have to listen to the full album to get the full context of the storytelling on the album
I will one of these days for sure- perhaps on vinyl
This band is amazing! Great pick
This album is 1991; Louisville, KY; 4 teenagers! Earth shattering album that is still ahead of its time!
Another great review of a truly great song.
Really insightful analysis Dean, congrats
Thank you kindly! Any other songs like this you'd recommend or other bands I should react to?
Nothing will ever come close to what these kids did..
Nothing. Not even them.
Yup. Tears every time. Goddamn you Slint.
best song ever
It’s the time signatures that makes it feel “out of order”.
It would be interesting for you to react to the second best slint tribute act, also known as Black Country, New Road
You have to do Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Mladic or Storm would be great entry points
Yes!!! Storm please. Mladic is as good but Storm is more accessible
@@IvefoundthetruthonMay agreed Storm made me almost cry the first time I heard it
I think Static is a little better than Storm, but skinny fists is an all around masterpiece any way you slice it.
She dreamt she was a bulldozer was from Static, i think. So i hope he does that or the masterfully done Sleep.
Most boring band ever.
Great thumbnail! Lol
Thanks!

Steve didn't produce Spiderland.. he produced the one before it -- Tweeze.
@@buzzbuzzerson3592 Right on, thanks for clarifying.

I always felt the entire album was a slow burn or build up to the crescendo...Good Morning Captain
Busting my moves from the back of the bus🤙, glad to see this review. Epic end to an amazing album ❤ Slint, We miss youuuu!!!
P.s I wasnt the guy who made the call✌
pajo is a god
Incredible musician
U should totally check out Bedside Table by Bedhead! one of the seminal songs in slowcore alongside other such bands like Codeine, Red House Painters, and Duster
If you like this, you should try a band called Have a Nice Life. Good stuff.
Incredible album! Check out Washer as well. Such an incredible band that could of been so much bigger.
It would be awesome if you reacted to a TTNG song called "Baboon"! Some amazing guitar work on that one.
rad vid
Its pleasant
Lit
great video
Glad you enjoyed it
bro? are you wearing batik?
a gift, yes
Suggesting- Elder-Dead Roots Stirring
Great song
Check out my new project "the delinquent daughters." An impending E.P. is going to be released for free on youtube.
My only request is Soulsplitter The Transition please.
If I may give a suggestion please, you should check out Black Midi and get a react vid going. Their new song, John L, would be a perfect addition to your current line up of videos.
Also very excited you did a Slint react vid. Probably a top 5 album in my life
I'm not quite sure what to make of this... 🤔
It’s fucken amazing that’s what to make of it
If that I miss you at the end don't move you the you are emotionally bankrupt
Ahh, the hipster indie classic
