  • That one time I made music for a video game! - Part 1 - "Mission Objectives" (2010)
Tonight I take you through a track I made that was meant for an indie video game. The track is called "Mission Objectives". I wrote it in 2010 using an older version of ProTools. Play back tonight is via ProTools 11.
In this video I wanted to demonstrate some range in my abilities to produce music that's more than Trance/Techno. With this tune I was combining some of my dance music skills, but also took heavy influence from the Halo: Combat Evolved soundtrack. I go over the elements in the track and talk about the synthesizers and plugins I chose to use.
I will be making a couple of other videos like this where I delve into symphonic music and even some audio theatre.
In this track I make excellent use of the East West plugin Storm Drums 2, a V-Synth, the Arturia MiniMoog MiniV plugin and Reason. The version of Reason I used originally was probably Reason 6, but I really don't remember now and Reason 8 and Reason 11 are the versions I currently have installed on my workstation.

Definitely gives me some ideas for a couple of game projects I want to do! Good to see some of your older stuff!

Oh yes, I remember storm drums :D
I also have been doing this soundtrack stuff for a while years ago in between all the synths and beats. It's a tough scene to get some traction in though and besides some library music and one cool pitch (that unfortunately fell through) it never really got anywhere. That being said, it's so much fun to step outside your comfort zone and do music like this :)

That's pretty cool. I make music for two games, currently. ClickRaid 1 and 2. I'm also working on tracks for a third game for the same developer. I also do it for free. In actual fact, I don't want to involve money into my music making journey, I just love making music.

Many thanks! Yeah is ProTools 11. I never moved to 12 since Avid went to the subscription model. Have pretty much been a full on Ableton user since 2015.

That sounds pretty moody, can see this work for a certain tyoe of game.
Yesterday shuffled my gear, tomorrow the wiring, great fun! NOT.
Thinking of getting a Doepfer Dark Time sequencer, it is so old school!

Hey ya Mike! Thank you sir! Congrats on the studio shuffle! I'm sure you'll be buried in cables and crawling on the floor to get things wired up lol.
Ps I'll have to ck out that Doepfer, I'm so not knowledgeable when it comes to modular 😂 quick, get me a modular for dummies book!!
