back in the days of 2nd ed my friends and I messed around with the scaleability of spells including Haste where at the "lost" 10th Level version would be Perfected; ramping up further from Improved Haste into the realm of Mythical. Cinematically, this scene represented that almost perfectly for a combat scene.
The moment when Vax alights in the air with the visage of the Matron of Ravens behind him, I swear I could rewatch it endlessly. The music in this fight scene is so fucking perfect I love it!
I agree - the soundtrack for Season 2 has been released now, but unfortunately the track for this scene (Hail The New Champion) does not actually match up to the music in this clip, particularly in the specific scene you described... Very sad!
Yeah that visual is just chill-inducing, especially with the Vox Machina theme twisting to a darker new theme for Vax as the Matron's champion. In my mind it's a great way to show how his fate changed as of this moment. How he goes from just being part of Vox Machina to belonging to the Matron of Ravens. I still can't believe they got Neal Acree for the music in this show. Just fucking perfect.
I love that they made vax fast as fuck because of his constant spamming of the boots of haste, his maxed out dex score with his crazy acrobatics score, and his wings giving him insane distance.
Basic movement + being a rogue so double dash + boots of haste that double every movement speed when activated + additional action from the haste so 3rd dash + the vestige itself giving him wings which add even more speed when activated. At some point during CR1 he was called a Raven's Queen Homing Missile after turning revenant and finding out that he could always feel where Vecna was. I think Vex went 480ft/r in one of the fights above an ocean or simply mentioned he could go that fast when Matt asked about his movement speed during that fight
It does make me wonder if he'll still get Whisper in the show, since with the speed it might end up almost redundant, plus him getting 2 vestiges always felt off.
@@ThunderEwokBThe Raven Queen's champion knows where he is at all times. He knows this because he knows where he isn't. By subtracting where he is from where he isn't, or where he isn't from where he is (whichever is greater), he obtains a difference, or deviation from his goddess. The guidance blessing uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the Raven Queen's champion from a position where he is to a position where he isn't, arriving at a position where he wasn't, and where Vecna is.
When Vax twirls his dagger, sticks it in the tentacle and flies up, leaps off and the camera pulls back and you see the Raven Queen graphic behind him, goosebumps.... EVERY....TIME.
Can we talk about how badass and dramatic that pose Vax makes as he ascends and the dramatic and slightly melancholic music reflecting how he is now the champion of death pretty much, as it zooms out to the matron on the wall, like she is watching out for him. So fucking cool.
Originally the Boots of Haste were brought to the campaign from their pathfinder home game, so the Boots of Haste being incorporated into the Deathwalker's Ward works.
I half expect this comment to be a deliberate trap for pedantic nerds (me) but I'll bite anyway, that was at the battle of the Pelennor Fields, outside Minas Tirith. :3
I feel like that's the second strongest if not strongest vestage we've seen so far. Mythcarver oneshot a dragon, but Deathwalker's Ward made Vax a speedster, and we all know how overpowered they are
In this, they basically made the ward a combo of two items: the original death walker's ward, and the boots of haste(thus the speed), in the game it wasn't to be scoffed at either. I believe when exalted it was a +3 studded leather, Vax got one resistance of your choice per short rest, he had a 60 foot flying speed, AND he had advantage on death saving throws which made him nigh-unkillable. However, it's difficult to fully display some of those in a visual medium, so this interpretation serves much better on screen
TLoVM was already pretty damn good, but this scene SCREAMED how it felt when each of them started to get the bearings, and the Vestiges suddenly felt like less of a "+1 Sword" in Matt's campaign, and more of a "Fuck yeah Button". I mean, sure - at this point it's a +1 AC armor with advantage on Death Saving Throws. But you can't tell me a good way to bump AC in an animated way isn't "Make this character a goddamn ninja".
I think it was +2 to AC and it could also be set during short rest to resist one damage type. But the super speed is absolutely a reference to Vax's Boots of Haste. An overpowered item that were a core part of the character for the entire campaign.
It was only a +1 to AC during its Dormant State, which was when it was first recovered. When Vax accepted his position as Champion, it became its Awakened State, which gave a +2 to AC and resistance to 1 damage type of their choice, but it's very possible that here in TLoVM, it went straight to its Exalted State, which gives a +3 to AC and a flying speed of 60 feet.
The scene is amazing showcasing the boots of haste as oart of the vestoge, etc etc. but can we talk about how absolutely amazing that introduction scene is for characterization? Look at the mans *fingers*.
Nice to see that there were a lot of people became or tried to become the new champion for the Raven Queen. The amount of broken weapons and arrows indicates that "trial" has happened for millennia if not more.
That's not specifically for the trial. It's a continuation of his earlier vision of The Calamity (i.e., the "war of the gods" that occurred about 1000 years before this story).
It didn't happen exactly like this in the original campaign; events have been rearranged and compressed quite a bit. Such is the nature of an adaptation, and it's better in many ways. But the most relevant episode is C1E44, "The Sunken Tomb".
can anyone tell me the song that plays during vax's speed attacks (2:47)? don't say it's Hail the New Champion bc it's not. the music swells are not in that song
Goes to show how INCREDIBLY TERRIFYING a Hasted opponent actually would be.

I honestly liked more the reaction of the monster. It realized that something was very wrong and looked as it felt fear.
Best part of this was Keyleths look after he killed it. if that's not a "omfg I have to fuck him face" idk what is
I knew Vax could fight, but I didn't know how good he was until he fought the Raven Armor, relentlessly I might add.
Yeah, it surprised me how he stood up again and again while not even knowing what's happening

For once, Scanlan and Keyleth were thinking the same things.
"That's my boyfriend"
Keyleths face given vax the eyes right there 😂

I believe that Grog said it the best, as his line summed up my reaction to Vax's moment perfectly.
Vex was like: Haste, Mobile, Cunning action dash.
