CRAZY! Wild Barn Owl Brings Home Live Rat- You Won't Believe What Happens. Viewer Discretion Advised

- Viewer Discretion is Advised!!! The WILD Barn Owl Dad brought a still-alive rat to one of its nestlings. However, the rat escaped the nestling and found itself trapped inside the box. The rat's survival instincts were strong, and it managed to avoid being predated upon by the young Barn Owls. The male Barn Owl left the nest after providing the live prey, and it was not present to retrieve the escaped rat. After a while, Mom returned and discovered the trapped rat at first looked surprised and killed it. She then handed it to one of her nestlings, which swallowed the rodent whole. There is a thought that predators may sometimes provide live prey to their young, allowing for the developing critical predatory skills in the nestlings and ensuring their successful growth and survival. Overall, this incident highlights the complexity and dynamics of parental care behaviors in avian species and the importance of adaptation to changing circumstances.
All the birds in our streams/videos are WILD and can enter and leave as they please. These videos are meant to document the lives of wild barn owls in order that we can learn more for both educational & research purposes and serve as an aid for the species conservation effort. We do not set up/ stage or intervene. All the videos are documenting wild barn owls. Important notes about barn owls and these cams: All these nest boxes have been monitored as part of our research group’s scientific activities from the Shamir Research Institue and University of Haifa in Israel. All the owls/birds are wild and are free to come and go. We monitor around 200 nest boxes/ 30-60 pairs a year but do not interfere in the owls breeding. In general barn owl pair fledged on average 5 fledglings per pair (range 1- 11 fledglings) but their breeding success decrease in the breeding season with earlier pairs more successful than later pairs. We add cameras either before the pair lay eggs or only have all the nestlings hatched in order to not disturb the owls. So these CAMs are in fact a very small percentage of the overall pairs we monitor. We added the cams as part of own research to learn more about them but also in order that people could observe owls lives without disturbing them. Some later pairs sometimes fail do to a lack of food. This may be hard to observe but this is nature and this is how the barn owls have evolved. You can watch a lecture to given by Dr. Motti Charter to learn more: • Everything you ever wa... . Some people comment about cleanliness of barn owls nest due to UA-cam cleaning nests out a lot. Barn Owls do not have any sense of smell and brings dead animals, some of them later rot and also regurgitates owl pellets inside the nests. Owls do not clean their nests and natural nest sites stay like this until they either fall a part or fill up. We do clean our nest once a year, so in fact our nest boxes are cleaner than natural ones. Cleaning boxes too much can cause pairs to abandon and also takes aware beneficial insects that help keep the boxes clean.

Quite interesting!
Fancy words. Somebody must have gone to college!
Ridiculous headline pathetic
I like your profession I would like to do it but here in my country it is almost impossible in my area there are a couple of these nocturnal birds I like the loud noise they make when I think they are mating, I don't have the cameras for that, sometimes I photograph the birds during the day with my cell phone but it does not have a powerful bed, thanks for the video and greetings from Venezuela
That looked like a little mouse NOT a rat.
I love how the nestling nipped at the mother’s wing at 2:30. It’s like the chick was saying “C’mon mom, I’m hungry.” 😂
I can’t believe it. The owl killed it. Who would have thought that was going to happen?
Shocking turn of events!
Yep, a surprise would be when the rat had escaped
I know, right?????? Owl brings home live rat. Chicks insufficiently developed to kill rat. Parent returns and kills rat, then feeds to chick. Mind blown!🎆 Was totally expecting the rat to build a lectern and deliver a thesis overview on the dangers of antidisestablishmentarianism in the post-colonial era among Commonwealth countries. SOOOOO not what I was expecting.
No freaking way !
😂
We feel bad for the rat until one day they are running around in your house!
Don't speak for us you feel bad
That looked like a mouse
@@mr.objective6936 yep
Field mouse
I cant get over the number of mosquitos in there.
It makes me itch to just watch them
And other assorted insects, including ants.
Right? Imagine just casually living in all that. Damn. I’m surprised they don’t even flinch at least once.
do they bite young owls? Like in the legs?
I suppose, they cannot get over feathers...
When the parent finally realizes, “boy, I raised a bunch of dumbasses.”
Of course when you were 7yo, you could do everything by yourself, no parents required...
A horror story from the rat’s point of view
True 😂😂
It’s a field mouse just for those expecting a rat. 🐁
Right. A RAT would be bigger than the chicks.
Looking at the nose I wasn’t sure if it was a mouse or a shrew…… I’ll take your word for it.
@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ Shrews have pointed nose and very small round eyes. It was definitely not one.
Based on the headline and upon beginning to watch the brave attempts of the rat/rodent to escape with its life, I expected it to literally jump out of the owl box, but guess it may of met with a separate death on impact with the ground, or maybe, it would of survived the fall to live for another day. We can only but imagine. Instead, it was most definitely eaten alive, although know doubt already taking its last breaths having likely incurred more damage when picked up by the parent owl for a 2nd time.
Now that is a fresh meal.
นกทุกชนิดน่ารัก อยู่กันเป็นคู่เวลามีลูกก็ช่วยกันหาอาหารมาเลี้ยงลูก เหมือนมนุษย่ สุดยอดจริงๆ
What will I not believe? 😂
yes, f... clickbait title
A couple years ago I was standing below a barn owl box, attracted by the sound of some thrashing around inside. Sounded like a garden hose being whipped around. Then a gopher snake poured out and dropped 15 ft to the ground and slithered away. I'd always wonder if it got in there by itself or was deposited in there?
It had just eaten whatever was in the box!
That was a mouse. Rats are quite a bit larger.
It is a young rat
It's a baby Rat. Rats have a much broader tail than mice. Also mice are more slender, and their tails are longer in comparison to their bodies.
Reminds me of a family of dogs I've been fostering since getting abandoned in the desert. The Mom and Dad go on rabbit hunts every evening but never seem successful. One night I found a mortally wounded rabbit in the road that had gotten run over. Brought it to the dogs who acted confused about what to do at first. 5 minutes later I went to check that the rabbit was mercifully dispatched, and found it was (already stiff) and the Great Dane Dad was guarding and growling the corpse as HIS posssession. Next morning, only the head half of the rabbit remained, and the three 14 week puppies were fighting over it and tearing off and eating strips of flesh. That's the nature of nature.
I love the one owlet biting at the feathers like “If you don’t feed me soon I’ll start eating you”
you dont love it
you just like it.
Now that’s what I call fresh food lol
Love how the the chick swallowed 3:09
Why was that so unbelievable?
Becoz of VIEWS!!! Its called fake title category.N its fake becoz its NOT unbelievable. Its not like they ate an alien.
It’s just to get views
Shes still Alive. Its nature but where is your heart?
Also... halt dein maul du 0. Oder ich bin deine Eule
The biggest problem are the mosquitos that are everywhere and big.
I don't think the rat was dead when it was swallowed. After mom puts it back down, it looks like the rat tries to run away, but then something happens (mom is in the way.) The rat disappears from view and then the next thing we see is a chick swallowing a rat. I think the rat was swallowed alive... I am not sorry, rats and mice are serious pests, and owls are the equivalent of thousands of mouse traps.
You lack empathy for another living being.
@@MilkyWhiskers You do have a point, but that doesn't change the fact that rats are serious pests. And although I am not sorry for the rat, I do feel bad that it likely experienced a very painful death.
I wish you happiness and success.
Farewell.
@@dev2410 With that logic then you must not feel bad for all species because they are all viewed a pest by someone, especially your fellow human being who is a species that cause most destruction on this planet.
Its nature get over it
@@MilkyWhiskers This argument isn't worth our time. I bid you good day.
Terminator owl: "Ow'll be bahck."
What exactly is happening in this video that I wouldn’t believe?
Awesome vid! Please people, don’t put out rat poison!
We are highly against the rat poisons such as the anticoagulants
Mama Owl brought it as a pet, but the kids didn´t appreciate it.
Beautiful Birds .🇱🇷
Dad, dad, this one’s still alive! What should I do?
Here, son. Leave it to me.
Unbelievable, the rat got eaten. Hold the front page. 😂
She was just checking on their reaction.
Two mice were apparently in the nest as the one owl ate a mouse and there was still another on the floor.thanks
I was thinking, what a dumb owl, the mouse is running the other way, lol

Interesting video!
New york can use some of these barn owls. They will take care the problem with rats!
There’s a video of a New York rat killing a pigeon, so no. I don’t think these owls will do.
@@moonbasemonkmode441i agree with owls not going to solve the rat issues in NYC, since i think many of them live underground anyways. But there is a big difference between a pigeon and an actual predator of the sky.
@@mvlpix4419 The rats are too big to kill in a single strike though, as well as being too big to swallow whole as well. Mice =/= rats.
@@moonbasemonkmode441 oh yeah for sure. but you can look up the “blakiston fish owl”
they’ve been seen killing and eating foxes and small dogs occasionally. :)
given the small beaks compared to the big species sizes, they often hunt prey that they can’t swallow whole.
the harpy eagle for example hunts small apes and then eats them piece by piece. (and i know it’s an eagle and not an owl, but they are quite similar in their diet and how they hunt)
Mammaaaa this thing is alive !!! ........
Rat? Identifying wild mammals clearly not your forte 😂
Plot Twist: The rat was a guest. They all ended up eating pizza.
They was over in the corner, drawing straws for who will get the first bite.
I was waiting for the psrt i was not supposed to believe. I am still waiting for it.
I was stunned that the owl's kind of looked blind - maybe that light in the box disorients them after coming in from the dark night sky.
The light is infra red and the nestlings do not see it. The box is simply very dark
A owls near sight is very poor.
@@nearlythere9443 their hearing is second to none though.
@@nearlythere9443Really? Seemed poorly sighted alright!
The Owls might need night vision goggles
It's probably a coincidence, but the father has since gone missing.
This mom did have a certain judgmental stare and way of telling him to hurry up whenever she saw him. At least, that's what it looked like to me. So perhaps the father left in shame after failing his wife, or she got rid of him for this embarrassing display. I'm joking of course. I'm not a ornithologist.
Apparently you've been in the doghouse yourself enough times to read that into the owl drama though...
@@oriraykai3610 I'm only joking.

@@HowToNotMeta Poor little human, he will never going to see the outside world again, delicious food though
@@stingerredshock3418 Your response warrants that you were offended. We’re all someone else’s food. It’s a fact, and if you’re responding to my fact, then I suppose you should tell the lion your feelings. I’m sure he won’t eat you *too* quickly
Well it was swallowed whole soooo yeah
poor ha I well wanted the young rat to be eaten. love it when they eat them whole and alive.
I bet it was struggling in the owls belly.
I think mom needs new glasses 🤨
Better than a cat😊
Maybe not dead but mortally wounded. Good practice for owlets.
Rat is like, Help! Help! Help!
It's a mouse who the hell writes these captions
Dude you hungry? No! Dude are you hungry?
That's a good excample, that owls seems not being sein so good as all tell... Or in the "house" it must be so dark and They do not see. I saw very often, that little or also elder owls search on the ground, where the food is. Ding this with taking all into their mouth, until they found what they were looking for...THX.
Damn...id a never believed that if hadn't watched it!...
Just an "FYI...Those are MICE. A rat would be way bigger than the baby owls.
I wonder if they will all survive, that’s a lot of mouths to feed and they are getting bigger.
Is everyone just ignoring that on the side of the screen it looks like a pair of eyeballs
These owls sure don't come across as the brightest birds out there.
The small owl after swallowing the whole thing alive: (°^°) ?
( )

I'm guessing that it's a male barn owl...momma aint' feedin' an unprepared meal!
please what cameras are you using??

What's that flying X around? Is that mosquitoes?
Needs a wee pair oh ladders in case it happens again 😂😂
The kids wanted fast food .
First off, not a rat. Second, what do you think is going to happen? Dinner time!
The rat had his chance to escape and he blew it.
Looks like owls eat the entire thing including intestines? Including poop inside?
Owls are badass
WHOO thought this was interesting WHOO 🦉
They don't do the "share" part of "dare and share"
Pobre rattita ,😢
that ir is blinding those owls
Little mouse had a chance to get away but … 😂
It's nature but it's not funny, really.
It tried to get out, but couldn´t jump high enough. I´m not sure that it would have been able to escape, anyway, but it was already injured and weak.
@@susand9296 it is nice seeing rodents getting eaten by owls
Looks more like a mouse or vole, the usual prey. By the way I'm surprised that there's no footage of Barn owl chicks eating each other which they do if food doesn't come in fast enough.
Looks like a field mouse
It became their pet
My heavens - those owls look like demons!
It's a rat not a mouse
Was it still alive when he swallowed it?
No, the mother killed it first
You're right I can't believe what happens next??
Did the rat ate whole family of owl as video title said " u wont believe wat happend next"...actually i slept when rat was massacring the whole family😂😂😂😂😂
Nom, Nom, Nom...Burp!

😢 that's got to be the scariest moment in that mouse life
I mean it's dead now so it's probably not too bothered by it
Gotta wonder if those chicks are gonna make it.

I expected the owls to breed the rat and then eat all the babies. Theyighr have bought a rat cage.
That's a mouse, not a rat.

Мой ужин тоже иногда убегает от меня.
We know which one fledges.
Is the moral of the story is that eating rats sucks?
Stupid clickbait.
I expected the owl family to raise that rat and make it grow some wings so it can live forever as a rowl.
