Hmm say what 5:06 footage..so really not a monocular view.. its a pixellated camera you see on a secondary screen when looking into it. and that is likely also how they stabilized it, EIS or perhaps cam OIS on the live view footage, and not actually see thrue optics, like Nikon stabilized-attempt. You don't mention this aspect at all in the video, that this ain't a normal rangefinder approach with a sharp direct monocular optic-view, but a camera live-view the footage on a pixelated screen that you then look at. Maybe I'm wrong but when looking through a monocular I really cherish that crisp sharp direct real view and not get it encoded and pixellated down on a small blurry screen I then loook at, I will keep that to FPV flying or Thermal cameras.. They should separate the screen at 1/3 on the left and keep a direct monocular view on the right, but likely not doable if you want that LCD screen course graphic on the left or perhaps keep the screen course graphic to a specific screen on the side of the unit. But yeah ain't cheap at 900USD here in Denmark.
Heard rumors that one of the major companies is working on a small GPS position transmitter that fits onto the top of existing flagsticks. They also work on a universal software interface so that the position signal can be picked up by GPS watches, smartphone golf apps and GPS screens on electric trolleys to show the exact pin position on the green. That would be a fantastic feature!
Definitely a nice range finder. I use a GPS device for the very reason you expressed when not able to view the flag but it does take a bit to update at times
Really good review of this Alex. I ordered one last night and your review was pretty essential in making up my mind, seeing the distances to carry those quarry's in the video gave a very good real life depiction of how it can be helpful! Thanks for all you do!
Before your video, it was a coin flip between the Z80 and the bushnell x2. I liked the idea of a battery that lasts for months or years with the x2, as well as the precision. The GPS feature on the Garmin is too sweet to pass on after seeing this. Getting to know where hazards are that you can't see by eye is huge.
I saw the Bushnell combo unit at the PGA Show and thought it was ingenious. Already having a Garmin X40, i love the graphics of this unit. Will be looking for the availability of it. Thanks Alex!
I use a gps...fast..accurate (certainly more accurate than any handicap player anyway) plus if u use a range finder and the pin is 170 away...should u actually be hitting the ball 170? Very very rarely...so front middle or back is all i need to know 👍
Cheers Adam. I think it depends on what spin you can produce. For example, If I have 150 then I'll play to 150 due to spin. It is personal preference as to what information you want to know :)
Great idea but I use a Garmin approach G8 GPS just because it's as accurate as I need and I get all of these features. Don't see why anyone would pick a standard Rangefinder over a unit like this? Price maybe seeing as it's nearly £600
I bought this unit 2 months ago, work good for 3 weeks then the battery went dead after 6 holes. I called them they said I needed to download a new fix,I did it worked for 3 weeks ,then went after 7 holes,I down loaded the fix to fix l I will try it in the morning. The service department is a very poor operation.they need to test it before they sell it.
GolfBox Reviews The masses demand it Alex lol. Just played my M3 440 yesterday for the first time and I must say, impressed. The Tensei white pro upgrade feels amazing. Played epic last year and just felt like it was all over the place. Curious to see how the show down goes with your ability.
Any decent range finder will do.. Using a leupold.. Probably more than 5 years, got it at much cheaper value. Battery life is in the range of years... I get what garmin want to sell here but it's redundant really. If you can't see the pin, probably best to punch out to the fairway ;)
ThomasKlarskov Thanks Tom! really appreciate the comment :). I haven’t heard anything to say it’s illegal. Seemed to just show standard functions on Tournament Mode, so it shouldn’t be a problem
my favourite hole at JLP. plus lots of free balls in the quarry below !!!!! (yes i know youre not supposed to go down there) ..... 850 for the unit !!!! very xpnsv ill stick with my gps watch for now ...
Got one for Christmas. No one can get it to work. I’ve spent hours on the phone with Customer Service on 3 occasions. Nope! It can’t “locate satellites”! No date or time. Hole overview never updates for women’s tees. It can’t give me correct yardage while on the hike. I’m guessing that’s all important. 😤
Maaaan! i was waiting for so looooong! finally ! you are just the best at reviewing! "it could be a birdie, or it could be a triple bogey" hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I use my cell phone for golf GPS bad thing about it you got to sit there for a minute until it reboots the numbers how far to the pen but this laser scope Garmin z80 no more waiting on numbers I can just get out of the golf cart point where I want to point and learn how to use it when I get one.
Used mine 3 times. Now I charge it and it still won't start. Lousy unit. Going back to my Nikon. Basic and simple. This is waaaay over-designed. I charge and charge and it still won't start. No help from Garmin either.

How is there nobody out on that gorgeous course?!?! Nice review, really cool product, nice combination of the two technologies. Back to work Etches!!!
Haha! Always love a comment from Mike! Hope you're well mate.
People were on the course but soon evacuated when I pulled up in the car park
Great to see you back dude!
Cheers mate
given you can turn off the plays like feature, will it be legal for competition play like the Bushnell tour thingy?
Another great review mate!! U should do a ‘ what’s in my bag’ !! Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks mate. Yeah, we're thinking of putting a WITB together soon. I think it's about time :)
I saw the Bushnell combo unit at the PGA Show and thought it was ingenious. Already having a Garmin X40, i love the graphics of this unit. Will be looking for the availability of it.
Thanks Alex!
Awesome fun reviews I like it a lot. Making golf less serious. great content.

GolfBox Reviews i can't get spin from a washing machine 😁
Adam Flynn 😂 brilliant!
Yay! Alex Etches Returns! Baaadasss👍
Martin Dawson Hey Martin! I’m back :)
GolfBox Reviews Finally!! Ha ha! Get that dust off the camera ! Still waiting to watch you smash 300m on a course driving greens!
oh and get us a job there and I'll do camera work! Ha ha!
Agree love seeing the Big Guy back.

Enjoyed the review Alex. Any chance of using it to record the winner? Head to head, M3 440 vs Rogue sub zero??
Thanks a very good idea, Miguel ;)

You had me at "gday guys" :) love your videos. Always bring a smile on my face. You know if the range finder is "legal" in tournament play?
ThomasKlarskov Thanks Tom! really appreciate the comment :). I haven’t heard anything to say it’s illegal. Seemed to just show standard functions on Tournament Mode, so it shouldn’t be a problem
Lovely looking course.....looks a bit snakey......welcome back
Cheers Robin. This course is a gem!
Looks great although guessing plays like distance wouldn't be allowed in competition?
Gr8 video as always.
Correct!
Thanks Michael :)
Great review, I use a range finder, I find it more useful, in Italy you can use a range without a slope function in competitions
Hi Mark! Rangefinders are very good :)
my favourite hole at JLP. plus lots of free balls in the quarry below !!!!! (yes i know youre not supposed to go down there) ..... 850 for the unit !!!! very xpnsv ill stick with my gps watch for now ...
I need to get one bad!!!!!
Callaway xr speed driver review would be great
I use both. Why is he saying GPS's are slow and inaccuate? They're not!!!
“They can be” definitely slower to operate than a point and click rangefinder. Thanks
Doubtful Poochera Golf Course is on there
Where have you been man. More reviews
Sorry Chris! I know, it's been a very busy few weeks. BUT IM BACK! :)
Wicked review 👍🏻
Daniel Mincher cheers Dan!
Looks like Garmin just changed the game. It will be interesting to see what the other companies do in response to this
It's a very good device. It will be interesting to see what everyone else does
The worlds longest bunker with ladders to get out!

Nice Nice... but does it work in the USA? You should send it to me to find out =)
Chris I just ordered one, come out to Swan Point with us on Saturday and you'll be able to see it first hand!
A watch and a range finder is 2 items and not a million
Exactly! 😂😂😂
Maaaan! i was waiting for so looooong! finally ! you are just the best at reviewing! "it could be a birdie, or it could be a triple bogey" hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Haha! Thanks so much, Juan. Really kind words
im guessing "plays like" isn't legal
As far as I'm aware, 'Playslike' is illegal for tournament play
I use my cell phone for golf GPS bad thing about it you got to sit there for a minute until it reboots the numbers how far to the pen but this laser scope Garmin z80 no more waiting on numbers I can just get out of the golf cart point where I want to point and learn how to use it when I get one.
currently it is 600 usd
Used mine 3 times. Now I charge it and it still won't start.
Lousy unit. Going back to my Nikon. Basic and simple. This is waaaay over-designed. I charge and charge and it still won't start.
No help from Garmin either.
