One of mine too! Good vs anything if run correctly, and it can be dressed up a ton of different ways

I noticed that in the 49ers playbook, the vast majority of plays have the qb throwing to his initial reads in the same direction as the sliding offensive linemen. Why do you think the plays are routinely designed that way?

I haven’t broken it down into hard data, but just based on my observations of pouring over those playbooks for years now (that one specifically), it seems to me like most of the protections in it are Scat, not Jet. Scat protection is a 5 man protection, so it’s not quite as important, in my opinion, for the slide to marry with the QB’s reads because it can be flipped at the line if there is pressure being shown one way or the other that might make the QB hot, and it has no impact on the RB’s route and timing like it would if he had a check release in Jet protection. That’s just my speculation, though.

@@WideZoneWarriors Right. And with the Jet protections in the 49ers playbook, it is almost 100% sliding to the initial read side with the blocking back behind the qb.

@@mjciavola I’m not sure then. Could be something as simple as Jimmy G felt more comfortable that way back then or that it’s just not as big of a concern for those guys as it is for me. Doesn’t make sense to me for that to be the routine way to do it, but maybe that’s why they’re in the NFL and I’m not 😂

I noticed that too, I wondered why because I just don't see where the upside is to doing that. Of course there has to be a reason because there's definitely a pattern there
...maybe it's just to piss off defensive coordinators
