i went on this ride once. when i was 3. and i loved it. just sat in it with my grandpa and my dad.. love you and miss you dad.. now that i'm 19 i wish i could ride it again to truly appreciate it in a new way. sadly that won't happen. :(
This is one of my favorite "classic" UA-cam videos to go back to and watch. The music makes this video even more beautiful than it already is. Such a simple and happy time it was back then!
this video made me cry... i miss that disneyland so much...it will never be the same again...that was a taste of the original disneyland ...long gone never to return
I came close to tears watching this video, I dont know why but when the people mover train is passing by with the sun setting in the back I get teary eyed.
Broeught me goosebumps...and a lump in my throat...for the Disneyland that is no more... Thanks for sharing such awonderful film WE LOVE it, I will watch it over and over, I had forgotten what you could see from up there! WOW!!!!
this was a time when disneyland and the world in general was a happier place to be.long live the great disneyland skyway.old vonroll vr101.you will allways fly high above disneyland in our mind..
i take my love and joy of the skyway to my grave with me when i die..i will allways cherris the great memories with you..my last remaining memory of my father..miss you forever..the day they took you out of disneyland, took out a piece of my heart and childhood..never forgive michael eisner..miss ya skyway..
1994 was the first year i ever went to disneyland and the skyway was one of the first rides we got on, this brings back great memories, i was 9 and the only reason we got to go is because my mom drew a yes out of a hat which meant we got to go. this is awesome.
Oh my god I am 50 years old and the last time I was at Disneyland I was a recreation leader in the early 1980's. Oh how I want to go and see this magic. Thank you so much for this video it brought tears to my eyes and remembering all the kids that day.
This proves the Vonroll tramway company of Bern Switzerland built A great ride.We all miss the Skyway..Old Vonroll #5.Rest in peace Skyway.I hope Walt Disney is riding you in the clouds above.
-sniff sniff- sry.. just give me a moment... -crying- WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!! That was just sooooooooooo memorable... Me and my dad loved riding and looking at the scenery... I also can't believe that the People Mover, then Rocket Rods closed down and now what is left? BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!
Another incredible trip back in time. This is the Disneyland I remember. Looked just like this when I worked there. Thank you so much for posting this!
Thank you for posting this video. It was great to see a lot of rides that are no longer there. I.e. the Peoplemover and the original rockets at their original location. I heard the reason why the Skyway was removed was because people were throwing stuff at the crowds below and a guy fell out of it. It was caught on tape where it shows him messing with the doorlock and he "conveniently" fell on top of a tree in Fantasyland by the Pinichio restaurant. R.I.P. Skyway and Peoplemover.
Aw, the music fits this so perfectly and makes me miss Disneyland even though I'm 45 minutes away. I miss the Skyway, but this makes me appreciate what we still have.
My family, friends and I miss it, too and you're not alone. Did you hear that there are some rumors that the PeopleMover will return? My parents remember riding it well back when I was an infant.
This is my favorite you tube videos. I watch it all the time. The music and the memories. I miss the Skyway ride and I hope one day someone that loved them too will bring them back.
I keep watching this video over and over here at you tube because it brings a lump to my throat. I miss Disneyland, the old Disneyland. I remember riding this in the 1960's and my brother and I would just keep going on it over and over! It was the best! Thank you so much, Parkhopper for sharing this with us. You picked some great music for it as well. Very beautifully done! Susi P.S. Have any vid of the old Trip Through Inner Space, another of the great attractions? Miss that one also!
I miss the Skyway a lot now. It was a great people-watching ride, and it gave you great views of most of the east side of Disneyland. The view of Fantasyland at night was colorful and beautiful. And it could save you a lot of time walking through crowded walkways. The San Diego Zoo and Sea World in San Diego are both still operating theirs. Sea World's goes over the water of the bay. The Zoo's goes over a deep canyon and you are really high off the ground at that point.
Beautiful video. I have fond memories of riding this on my first trip to Disneyland in 1988. I almost forgot about that beautiful view (ps; PERFECT music!).
Thanks for posting this! I was born in 1991 and went to Disneyland once when I was a baby, but went more often when I was four or five and went every Sunday since up until I was 15. So needless to say, there's no way that I could remember the Skyway. I heard about it, but always wondered what it was like. So thanks again for this cool little bit of Disneyland history :)
I love, love, LOOOVE that you chose "A Whole New World" as the background music for this - ESPECIALLY the sweet instrumental version. It made me cry, and I'm being very serious. I really miss the skyway and the WEDway Peoplemover.
Yes, you really did miss out. Riding up in the air and looking down on the park was a wonderful experience. No trip to Disneyland was complete without at least one ride on the Skyway. There's always rumors that they might bring something similar back but nothing definite.
Awwww.... A Whole New World! I used this song for my Qunice when me and dad did our dance. I fianlly saw the Skyway station at Disneyland when I went for Thanksgiving last year, I spazzed. I tried taking a picture but trees were in the way and it was blocked off. Memories to those who rode it and history to the newer generation if Disneyland history lovers.
WOW, Owner of this video, You have in your hands some true Disney GOLD! I'm a strong guy but this is the Disneyland I grew up dreaming about going back to as a child. I'm a season pass holder now, but yea, its definately not the same. You just don't get that same feeling when you go through the park as you did when it was original. thanks for the tears and treasure that video
I nearly cry watching this. I remember those days riding all the great rides they had and skyway was defiantly one of them I loved it when I was about 5. I almost jerk a tear watchin this.
It's kinda sad cuz one of the main reasons this closed down was because tourists were being immature and throwing objects from the skyway onto people below, It was kinda cute how Mickey and Minnie went on the ride the last time it ever ran before they demolished it.
They never actually gave an offical reason for closing the skyway. I spoke with an imagineer once and asked him about it. He wouldn't give the reason but he said it was the same reason the Skyways in Florida and Tokyo were eventually closed.
Thank you for giving us a great view from Disneyland that none of us will ever see these days... So sad to see the Peoplemover and Submarine Voyage gone now... that area of the park is so dead looking now. :(
well i'm 21 now, when i was 5 year old i remember riding this skyway. i like them very much cause of the great sight and beats the hell on traveling on foot.
There is good news for Walt Disney World, the skyway is returning as a major form of transportation; connecting certain theme parks and WDW resorts! It will truly be awesome to see this return in an all new form and fashion!
I loved this ride. I remember riding it in 1987 when we were in Disneyland. Seven years after we had been there, they closed it down. It's a shame as I would have loved to go on it at WDW as we're going to WDW in September.
The music is perfect! My dad told me that when he was young he would ride this ride and they would sometimes drop pennies to see if they hit somebody. My mom said that it was fun to yell out random names to see who looks up. The PeopleMover looks neat too.
That was an amazing video; makes me long for those days of being a kid again at Disneyland. Thank you very much for sharing that footage. I heard a rumor that the Peoplemover might be coming back...so you never know :). Take care, peace.
I've done the research, now it's your turn. Nobody has ever died on this ride at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. Do a search online for "incidents at Disneyland" to see the entire list of all guest injury or death cases at the park. If you've seen somewhere that three people have died on this ride, it could have been another installation. The Skyway ride was only unique to Disney parks by name...otherwise it's a generic gondola lift ride that could be at any theme park.
talking about the best attraction that disneyland ever had!long live the great disneyland skyway!i was there on nov 9 1994,the last day it ran.very very sad.the hell with eisner!at least the great vonroll skyway lives here on youtube!thanks parkhopper!do you have any skyway at night??the best place to watch the fireworks!long live the disneyland skyway!!!!!rest in peace old friend...
My wife tells me of a time when she and a friend were teenagers in the 60s. They dropped water balloons off the ride. They were met by Disneyland security when they got off. They were taken to SecurityLand, photographed, and banned from the park forever. I still laugh when we visit nowadays because she still tries to hide her face whenever she sees a security guard! Like they'll remember the teenaged girl from the late 60s.
it amazing me everytime, I have disabilities and I use a wheelchair. This ride could of been modify to fit a wheelchair. But no for us who has disabilities tough luck on us so they close it. They did modify Small World ,Jungel Cruise and the train. It getting there but slow. WDW Got the hang of it.
No, I don't and I haven't really seen any decent video of it anywhere. It was very dark in there. There is, however, a CG recreation of the ride that is very good. I found it on line but I can't remember where.
I was just there a few days ago and found the old skyway station that is still standing in fantasy land. Sadly is hidden behind trees and bushes. I read that they're planing on taking the old loading station down since they have no use for it and all the damn feral cats live there LOL! Too bad that they can't just fix it up, clean the area around it and clean it up so that way people can see it. Something like a piece of Disney history and nothing for people to reminisce over when they visit the park.
I miss the Skyway at Disneyland. Thank you for posting this video on youtube. I'm trying to remember when the last night I rode on the skyway was. I think it was sometime in the late 90's. When did they close the Skyway ride?

C’mon... that’s too outdated
I came close to tears watching this video, I dont know why but when the people mover train is passing by with the sun setting in the back I get teary eyed.

I remmebr I used to watch this video over and over in 2007 and show my family. I was so into Disneyland and the past of Disneyland.
i take my love and joy of the skyway to my grave with me when i die..i will allways cherris the great memories with you..my last remaining memory of my father..miss you forever..the day they took you out of disneyland, took out a piece of my heart and childhood..never forgive michael eisner..miss ya skyway..
Never forget u Skyway.June 23 1956,Nov 9 1994.! 17 years.Still the most missed ride in Disney history..Vonroll forever!
I should be so lucky. I've always wondered what happened to The Skyride. The good 'ol days indeed.
1994 was the first year i ever went to disneyland and the skyway was one of the first rides we got on, this brings back great memories, i was 9 and the only reason we got to go is because my mom drew a yes out of a hat which meant we got to go. this is awesome.

Coolest thing to do on the Skyway - watch the "Fantasy in the Sky" fireworks show. They wouldn't let you do that now.
I miss it, too. Thanks for this.
Wow... I grew up in Anaheim and this fantastic video brings back some old memories. Thanks for the post...
This proves the Vonroll tramway company of Bern Switzerland built A great ride.We all miss the Skyway..Old Vonroll #5.Rest in peace Skyway.I hope Walt Disney is riding you in the clouds above.
long live the skyway.gone 14 years on this date nov 9th.love ya and miss you skyway.
I miss the Skyway at Disneyland - it will always be my "Happy Place". Thanks for the memories. =)
I REALLY miss the Skyway and the people Mover!! This is really Old School Disneyland all the way! thanks for the video!
I loved this ride when I as kid!! Thanx!!
I miss living in California so much..

-sniff sniff-
sry.. just give me a moment...
-crying-
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!
That was just sooooooooooo memorable...
Me and my dad loved riding and looking at the scenery... I also can't believe that the People Mover, then Rocket Rods closed down and now what is left? BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!
Good video. The instrumental "A Whole New World" was a very nice touch. Well done.
Another incredible trip back in time. This is the Disneyland I remember. Looked just like this when I worked there. Thank you so much for posting this!
the part when you see the people mover passing by is almost symbolic in the sense that it's basically saying "Goodbye"
Thank you for posting this video. It was great to see a lot of rides that are no longer there. I.e. the Peoplemover and the original rockets at their original location. We love it down here!

i cried. thanks for the memories

Thanks for the video! That was exactly how I
remembered riding on the Skyway so long ago.
One word: Nostalgic. Thanks!
Thank you so much for uploading this. I never got to see this ride in action before.
I love, love, LOOOVE that you chose "A Whole New World" as the background music for this - ESPECIALLY the sweet instrumental version. It made me cry, and I'm being very serious.
I really miss the skyway and the WEDway Peoplemover.

Ahh, brings back memories for me! Thanks.
Wow, I miss this ride. Thank you
Love the piano tune while on the sky way. I recognize it anywhere.
It's kinda sad cuz one of the main reasons this closed down was because tourists were being immature and throwing objects from the skyway onto people below, It was kinda cute how Mickey and Minnie went on the ride the last time it ever ran before they demolished it.
my god! brought back alot of memories!i would love to go on that now! but! all things must pass! :-(
Disneyland in the early 90s! This is the best! Thank you so much!
There was no better view of the park ever!
Thank the lawyers and "risk management" for closing this wonderful ride!
Love the video. I remember when I was a little kid again.
I went on this once when I was 4 in 1994, after that they took in out.

oh man the skyway was just awesome. I miss the old disneyland.
They never actually gave an offical reason for closing the skyway. I spoke with an imagineer once and asked him about it. He wouldn't give the reason but he said it was the same reason the Skyways in Florida and Tokyo were eventually closed.

The music is perfect! My dad told me that when he was young he would ride this ride and they would sometimes drop pennies to see if they hit somebody. My mom said that it was fun to yell out random names to see who looks up. The PeopleMover looks neat too.
Great Video! Wish it was still there...
I was sad when it closed, I was 9 or 10 so I don't remember much but I loved it.

Nov 9th 2010 Rode the San Diego Zoo Vonroll Skyride in your memory..Love and miss ya Skyway!!!
u know, the original fantasyland station for this ride is still there; right next to casey junior. look for it next time ure there
Very pleasant ride. Wish it was still running.
damn, this ride had to close one year before i was born
I miss this, I wish they'd bring it back
:( I miss the Skyway! Please bring it back. It's like having a Wonkavator.
I wish I had nightime footage but I don't.
My wife tells me of a time when she and a friend were teenagers in the 60s. They dropped water balloons off the ride. They were met by Disneyland security when they got off. Let's just say it went to a galaxy far far away.
i totally miss this
The Matterhorn is hollow, so it wouldn't be too hard to make the holes again
0:31 isn't there anymore! The Aladdin's palace thing.
wasn't the tea cups closer to the castle before? in the old pictures its shown near the castle. i guess they must have moved it.
GREAT VIEWS. Your choice in music almost makes me cry
I miss the Skyway at Disneyland. Thank you for posting this video on youtube. I'm trying to remember when the last night I rode on the skyway was. I think it was sometime in the late 90's. When did they close the Skyway ride?
Oh absolutely. I say it's still definitely worth going to. Things like the Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion, even the new version of Pirates. It's great. ^^
Disneyland was so much more simpler then, and seemed truly happier.
