@@HorsePenRanch love your videos. I'm a PA guy who loves to do Cowboy and CW style cooking. My wife and I started traveling to Corinth, MS to help Jeremy and Brandy Jones on there Chuck Wagon. We also want to help them in Pigeon Forge, TN at the cook-off. It's a lot of traveling for us. So we can't do as much as we'd like.
Well, thanks for the info. That is the 1st Cabela’s Dutch Oven I’ve owned or cooked off of. I’ve only used lodge and older antique ones. I’ve been cooking in dutch ovens for almost 30 years and I have never needed a thermometer for my dutch oven. But if I ever do, now I know. Thanks for the info.
@@HorsePenRanch No problem. The Cabela's ovens are actually made by Camp Chef, but with the Cabela's name on them. That thermometer slot works great for the remote thermometers that you can put the probe in the meat, and then walk around with a remote to let you know the progress of your meat dishes. I've been cooking for over 50 years in Dutch ovens, and we have about 100+ ovens, and a 1894 Newton Chuckwagon that we do catering, competitions, educational cooks.
@@HorsePenRanch we just did a cook with about 50 youth; made 2 14” of Huevos Rancheros, 2 12” Stuffed Bell Pepper casserole, 2 12” Triple Chocolate Cake, and 2 14” of buttermilk biscuits. That was just last week. Have a grandson’s wedding reception that we’ll be cooking for. Cajun Stuffed Pork Tenderloin, Cowboy Mashed Potatoes, Rosemary-Garlic Rolls, and come cobblers. 😀
No sir not this one. I’ve brined several dutch oven turkeys over the years and have found this way to be easier and super moist and flavorful. But brining is always a good method. Thanks for watching!
Happy Thanksgiving Brother God Bless y’all!!
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving!!
I started using a pair of pruning snips. Best thing I've found yet.
That’s a good idea. Thanks for watching.

Not a vent hole.............it's for the thermometer to slide in

Now 100 ovens is a lot to keep up with! I love to hear you have a wagon. Are you a member of the American Chuck Wagon Association?

Thanks Danny. Happy Thanksgiving to y’all as well.
Did you brine the turkey beforehand?
