    gotta say it feels oddly refreshing to see a sequel (or more like revamp in that case, which I really dont mind) to an old, beloved game that isnt a steaming pile of crap
    and yes missiles are STRONG in this one, which is why they are now susceptible to point defense and can be bodyblocked... but past that they tend to deal great damage and have strong durability piercing. Meanwhile, heavy cruisers mainly exist to just be the most durable non capital ship, and being decent at killing ships with low durability: do NOT rely on them for damage, thats what missile spam is for (also note, pretty sure the displayed DPS is PER weapon, so if you have a gunx5 with 10 dps listed, then the ship deals 50 dps total, 10 per gun).
    And the biggest thing is ship durability (which isnt shown out of the extanded tooltip) that is damage reduction that is put up against the pierce value of weapons and is constant (cant be modified in any way, and works the same across shields, armor and hull), meaning weapons with low pierce but high dps are basically USELESS against high durability targets, and high pierce is key to kill capitals and stations quickly

    I doubt they'd do it right but it could be fun for a home world style game but instead of a mothership you control an elder Craft world.

    Sins of a solar empire 2 or Distant Worlds 2, which is better

    • @battlemode
      @battlemode 4 місяці тому +3

      Both great games but very different: Sins 2 is faster paced and a lot easier to play, with excellent combat, plays more like an RTS in tactical battle. Distant Worlds 2 is a simulation heavy real-time 4X, heavier on the 4X elements than Sins and on the complex side for the genre. But it's got some issues too.
      Sins is better if you're hoping to finish your game in under 10 hours, where Distant Worlds 2 is much more complex and lengthy to play and a typical game is gonna last 20-40 hours at least.

    This doesn't feel like the sequel to a 16 year old game. It's a very lateral move, and in some areas a step back. I don't see significant innovation in gameplay or graphics, and Sins isn't a game about the story, so what exactly is the selling point of Sins 2 over just firing up Sins 1(itself an S tier game)?

    • @thorveim1174
      @thorveim1174 4 місяці тому +7

      I do like the additions myself, like moving planets, exotic ressources, ship items allowing to customize your ships further (ESPECIALLY for the vasari that can now have basically everything save for their economy and culture expansion put onto their capital ships at the price of combat modules, meaning you CAN go full nomad unlike in the first game) and the changes to missiles (that are now far nastier, but can be countered by point defense or bodyblocked). And yes its more a revamp than a sequel, but at the same time if they changed too much... would it still be Sins?
      and graphics wise, the simple fact that turrets are now physicalized (instead of either not existing or being a frozen part of the model) is a huge improvment in my book. That and as a vasari player, i do prefer their newer style, feels more alien than before

      @@thorveim1174 All this is fine and well, if it were done more than 10 years ago. By now though I expect more from games. To me, this seems like it's extremely basic compared to what can be made with current development tools. Like it's a beta test of game mechanics in the early stages of development, not a game that's nearing release. "If they changed too much", is in itself is a vague statement and can't be quantified, what's too much for you might not be too much to me. Dragon Age Origins to Dragon Age 2 was a significant change, but I still recognized the game as being Dragon Age. Dragon Age Origins to Dragon Age Inquisition is a massive difference, but I can still recognize that it's a Dragon Age game. Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 3, enormous changes, but it's still Mass Effect. Simply put, I think Sins of a Solar Empire could be much more than it is as presented here. Even just updating the UI to look more modern would have been nice to see.

      @@Hirome_Satou there's a reason I only played the first mass effect. Yes the second two were part of the series but I tried them and quickly dropped them because they did not feel like a sequel to mass effect gameplay wise. It's not a quantifiable thing but it's very real.

      @@AntonSlavik111 That's like, your opinion man. Also, what I said wasn't "It feels like DA Origins" What I said was, it's clear that it IS Dragon Age. • @rman88
    @rman88 4 місяці тому +2

    You know, the thing that kinda annoyed me about this. Not the whole, being super noobish and deciding to put yourself against ai that actively cheats. Not even knowing how anything even works to the point that arch is going. "Huh wtf am i even doing." like the guy decided to pretend he is Joe Biden.
    But really the thing that bugged me is his speech on well features. First of all, its debatable if certain features are even necessary or added anything to begin with. Lets take for example homeworld 2 system subsystem. Now you may think this is a cool little thing that adds more to your ships. But dose it really? Do you really want to clog up your build menu with every single ship. Making you micro manage and add a whole bunch of subsystems that debatable even did anything. Further more, attacking specific subsystems do not even really help you in the long run. Sure you could blow up the fighter factory or try to disable the Long range Missiles of the battlecrusier. But is it really more efficient then just blowing up the ship itself? The answer is No, it is not.
    Some features are in general a cool idea but dumb in practice, didn't work as intended, or is just fluff that adds nothing to the game play. So to argue that every game needs every feature that ever existed in the previous game. Is kinda insane, because the devs could have just decided that Feature was shit. Or they want to create new mechanics that makes it irrelevant. A good example of this is Vicky 3. Where they redid the combat system to the point that it is Nothing like Vicky 2. Because they actual wanted to make a new combat system instead of just Reusing HOI3 or EU4 unit templates.
    And this isn't even taking into account that some of these games. Had decades of work done to them. and to expect each game to have the previous games features + years of addition features + new stuff that warrant the sequel even existing. Begs the question why make it to begin with?

    • @Sorain1
      @Sorain1 4 місяці тому

      Okay, I have to weigh in on the subsystem example here: It is a good system, if it had been implemented correctly. If it was much easier to take out a subsystem to mission kill a ship instead of it being roughly the same as TTK? That would have been a meaningful addition to the game. That being said, your not wrong that a system in a game needs to serve the game as a whole and sometimes you do need to just try from a fresh start.
