  • This is my "Final Reveal" video for the Tamiya 1/48 De Havilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI
    Due to a copyright claim on the introduction music and the second track of music that was originally included in this video, preventing this video being watched in 247 countries, I had to remove these tracks. Therefore, the video is silent until 6:39 where images of the completed model begin. My apologies in advance for the silence, it is not your computer, your speakers or headset that have a problem.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    After watching several historical documentaries on this FABULOUS plane (You Tube), i "capped them off" with your fine, definitive presentation of this LOVE-LY model. Well Done, Sir ! Thanks for sharing. (Guess the De Havilland Mosquito is now my all time favorite airplane !)

      Thanks for watching and commenting William, greatly appreciated! I hope you're having fun with your modeling? I started modeling in January of 2014, so it's only been 2 1/2 years for me, although I haven't built anything for 4 months because my wife and I moved to a new home and we're still settling in. I'll be glad when I get my man-cave built and set up again so i can begin building....I'm missing it! This was my 8th build...I've built 26 aircraft and one figurine, so far...so, this "Mossie" doesn't quite capture my present skills that I've learned watching other modelers videos.Check some of my more recent builds: ua-cam.com/video/AKddHmJ_chs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Un29hOf2diM/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/eSI_qcd9s88/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ZRKU-k-M-BE/v-deo.html Cheers : )

    Nicely done, sir! I remember watching UK TV station Channel 5 and its Weapons of War episode on the Mosquito and how it was the first ever stealth bomber, could outpace Bf109s and that there was a tank-buster version called the Tetse-Mosquito! The footage of the test bed firing this cannon showed the whole plane recoiling six or seven feet with each blast. A beautiful plane.

      We don;t have the Daily Mail here in the USA, so, I was bummed out when I was checking the news back home in the UK and saw that offer. I would have gone to 10 different Newsagents and bought the paper 10 times! Good luck finding an airbrush... look at double-acting airbrushes, you get total control over both the flow of air and the flow of paint. Cheers : )

      Frederick J. Meccia Thanks Frederick, much appreciated! Regarding comparing this to the new tooled Airfix version, I couldn't answer that as I haven't built the Airfix version. I'd suggest checking out other modelers online reviews who might have built it to see what they say about it. All I can say about this kit, being a fairly recent Tamiya kit, one can always expect great details and engineering leading to a kit that literally falls together without issues and look good when built. • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  9 років тому

      Rich Hemmings Hey Rich, thanks for watching and your kind comment, greatly appreciated! If you're using a hairy stick to brush paint your model, I'd just suggest that you thin your paints to water consistency and do layers of thinly applied paint. Be patient and allow each layer to dry before applying the next coat. I find this method works for me in helping to eliminate brush strokes in the finished item. What paint are you going to use? I ask, because Tamiya acrylics (I only use acrylics) do not brush well from the bottle. But, if you thin them down with Isopropyl Alcohol it helps them flow much better, paint better and accelerates the drying time. You can buy a liter bottle from any pharmacy for around $6.99 and it will last you a long time....just don't drink it! ; )~ Good luck and enjoy building her, she's a great kit! Cheers, Martin : )

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  5 років тому

      I don't use Humbrol, because they're terrible paints to use...I use Tamiya and Model Master paints only. If your NF version is the upper grey/green camo with a lighter grey underside, I use Tamiya XF-81/ XF-82 and XF-83. No idea what the Humbrol equivalents are, but you could try Google. Good luck.

A very interesting story behind that Mosquito but I'' get back to that more when I build it.. in due course. The Revell 1/48 Mossie IV will be RAF, however.. :)

This was an old build for me...built during my 4th month of modeling, when I began in January 2014, so, not to the standards I build to today...but, I still have my old tooling Revell Mossie Mk.IV that I began at the end of last year, to finish. Will get back to it after I complete my Sea Hurricane and two mirage IIIC's. I can't wait to see what you do with yours....I'd imagine no scratch-building necessary for that one, what, with 222 parts, I think plenty is included, unlike my old tooling version that has more scratch-build parts than the number of parts that came with the kit! Cheers : )

If not I'm sure I can angle it, somehow. I wanted to make it as a Mosquito IV, used by BOAC for the Stockholm run, but those decals were expensive in 1/48. I bought a Mossie IV in 1/72 instead, which I will build as the BOAC version.

      Thanks for watching Chris, much appreciated! This was one of my early builds since I started back modeling in January 2014, 42 years after I last built a model as boy. All I can suggest is to take your time, watch a few videos of how more experienced modelers build their models and the methods that they use to achieve some realism. One of the most important things to do, in my opinion, is to ensure that you apply a good gloss clear coat (varnish) over the painted model before you apply the decals, otherwise they will "silver" and will not look like they are painted on. Allow the clear coat to dry overnight before applying the decals, let them settle down overnight, then seal them in with another clear coat. If you don't have an airbrush and you're going to brush paint, then I'd suggest that you thin your paint down and apply a few thin coats allowing each coat to dry fully before applying the next coat. watch videos, practice your techniques on pieces of plastic card and have patience....don't rush the build and you should see good results. My latest builds average anything from 120 - 160 hrs of work to complete them. The most important thing to remember, is to have fun....don't get stressed, this is an hobby for de-stressing from the rigors of daily life! Cheers : )

    Is it only Airfix that do kits in 1:72 scale? I do like the idea of a 1:32 scale model, tbh. Xmas 2016 here in Scotland saw Debenhams, The Works and TK Maxx stores(I know it's TJ Maxx in the U.S.) flogging 1:24 Airfix Spitfire and Messerschmitts for £20.00 each. Did I buy any at that price? No, I did not.....

    Well I think it may just be that I have a cheap airbrush and its also about 9 years old
    maybe I should just invest ina better and new one LOL.
    I have rescued my Mosquito by using a very wide brush and brush painting it in Tamiya Acrylic Sky Grey and I feel a little happier now.
    I know the results with brush painting isn't as good but I think I have got a reasonably decent result..
    I.m just finishing my Revell 1/32nd Scale Mossie B-Mk-IV..
    It's getting finished as a Pathfinder so I may do a built clip on it if I| think it's good enough.
    I don't think it will take your mossie out of the limelight though LOL. But I did spend about 3-4 hrs getting the cockpit to my liking.
    I do think the Mosquito is an impressive bird, she looks very menacing and powerful.
    anyways thanks for the advice and I did invest in some acrylic thinners so I may follow your suit and start using acrylic, The Tamiya paints are very good.
    PS Will be sending you some pics of my Tiffy Build progress soon and Hope your Big Beast all goes well Too Martin.

      My airbrush isn't one of the high end fancy ones, it cost my wife $65.00 when she bought it me for Christmas 2013, along with a compressor and 3 Airfix kits. Mine is a Paasche VLS double action airbrush...I've really liked the results I've gotten with it for a cheap airbrush...the only maintenance I do with it is; wash it out after every use and before each color change, and, buy new needles and tips when the needles start losing their original shape.
      I've brush painted about 9 of my builds, even though I had the airbrush and I'm happy with the results...any blemishes there might be are blended by the weathering stage when applying oil paint washes and filters, which in turn make it appear as if it was all airbrushed.
      The "Mossie" is a gorgeous bird, a "wooden wonder", agile, nimble, graceful but aggressive at the same time.
      Tamiya paints are great for airbrushing, not good for brush painting straight from the bottle, they tend to drag, unless you thin them 50/50 or more.
      I'll look out for your "Tiffy' pics so I can get them posted into the forum for all the other members to see.
      Cheers,
      Martin : )

    Hi Martin.
    I love your Mossie its very tasty.
    I Hope I can bring my Mossie back from the grave as I have spent about 40 Hrs on her and I think I have just destroyed her in 20 mins by trying to spray the underside Matt 64 Humbrell with my airbrush.
    I have had nothing but trouble when spraying and Have finish kits using brush painting because of the trouble I have with airbrushing.
    The Paint comes out like crap with little puddles of paint all over the model I'm trying to paint.
    Its been the same everytime I use an airbrush.
    Is it cos Its just not getting clean enough as I used a badger cleaning product and since then its been like this.
    I'm losing the will to live!!!
    what can you suggest as I need therapy

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler  7 років тому +1

      Thanks John, much appreciated! This is an old build for me now, done 3 years ago when I first began making models.
      Regarding your airbrush woes, what kind of airbrush are you using; single action or double action? Are you using acrylics or enamels?
      If you're getting small puddles, that sounds to me like it could be one or more of a few problems, such as: your paint is coming out too fast, you maybe too close to the subject matter with the tip of your airbrush, you're not doing light pass-overs of areas, working from one end of your model to the next, then returning to another light pass, until you achieve the density/appearance you're looking for.
      I use a double action airbrush that gives me control over both the amount of air I allow to flow through the nozzle and how much paint I allow to flow through....it's all about control baby, yeahhh!
      If you use enamels, I have no experience with those, I only use acrylic products for ease of cleaning and because I do all my modeling at the dining table and don;t want the smell of oil and lacquer based products in the house.
      Cheers : )

      It's a fantastic kit by Tamiya that goes together very well. This was the 8th model that I built since beginning modeling in 2014 and there are a couple of tricky areas to assemble- inside the cockpit and the undercarriage. But, if you have dexterity and lots of patience to tackle those areas, you might be alright, otherwise, practice on a few cheaper kits until you feel confident with your gluing and assembly skills/techniques. Good luck and have fun! Cheers 👍😃

      Hello Richard, thank you for watching and for your kind comment, much appreciated. This is one of my early builds when I first began modeling in 2014...it isn't near the standards I build to now. Here's a Hawker typhoon that I'm working on, but I have to build a base to display it on, with a Pilot and maybe a bench etc....then I will do a "Final Reveal" video for it: ua-cam.com/video/wvYVsiTCXVg/v-deo.html
      Cheers :)

      Ha ha....I learned my lesson from the first time I knocked a jar of paint over, so when I open a jar of paint, I drop it into a holder. : )
