Saw a Brand new Guzzi Le Mans 850 in the front window of a local Bike shop. It cost 1999 pounds Stirling in 1978... It was paired on display with a Ducati 900SS that was 2200 pounds...I part exchanged my Yamaha for it the next day. I spend a few hours just looking at it. It was without a doubt the best looking super bike of the late seventies.
I've owned a MK1 for 35 years, also bored out to 950, with 40mm Dellorto's. It's not been on the road for 20 years, you have inspired me to get it going again, thanks!!
I love Moto Guzzi. Brilliant designs and construction. These are sport bikes for sustained high speed travel. Chewing up the miles as it racks them up at an impressive rate. One thing i have noticed is that a Moto Guzzi V twin that is in tune starts almost immediately. Like 2 revolutions of the starter motor and that V twin is lit without fail.
I like this because you can see that your really chuffed with how its all turned out, lovely bike.... ive just been given C&H Lemans II, by my father, just sorting the carbs out then ready to hit the road.
So pure the styling - only Italians and British can do this. I remember taking my new one from the dealer, and promptly stalling it on first attempt to drive it away... Loved it to bits, such brilliant handling and huge torque. Pissed all over the pretenders of the time - BMW R90s, Ducati whatever, anything else - ta ta pal.
This later version of the Mk. 1 has the smaller De Tomaso tail light. Much nicer than the original square one. IMO these Le Mans are among the best looking motorcycles ever.
Wow now that is pure CLASS all the way... I am impressed.... I have just purchased a Mk1 too, the one with the CEV round tail light. Your bike has impressed me with the spoke wheels. Do you know where I could source some from. Are they the original Borrani rims?? Stirling job on your bike enjoy riding it !!!!
amazing bike! sounds so good with the big bore kit and exhaust. I have an LM2 and plan on doing an LM1 conversion so it looks like yours. And holy sh** the spoke wheels are a must as well!! Bravo..
Always impressed with the look of these bikes , always looked the part ........ not over filled with plastic bits . Bit of a mixed period for build quality .
That's strange, I put together an ice blue mk1 with the same carb tops, wire wheels, 950 conversion, I fitted straight cut timing gears and sump extension. I also fitted a boyer Branston crank fired ignition with a parabolic curve. I sold it as I was racing at the time, but have regretted it ever since. I would love to be reunited with it.
Hi nice this was my first bike 25 years ago 950 as well, it was in the crossbow calender November 91. Well done great job . I must have liked it as I just got another
I just froze the picture right at the end, it is Beautiful. Very little else has ever come as close to such perfection. Though the `always slightly dodgy` side panels are questionable.... If the front end is ever apart, may I recommend swapping the fork legs/calipers over to fit behind the fork legs, it gets the weight in a Much better place, keeps them drier, the fixings are in compression, not tension and it tidies the hose lines, but will involve shorter hoses, ideally. they will still work even if all the bolts fall out!.
Hi I think from memory this seat was by Stucchi I had one on a LMII I had back in 1985. Finding one is just purely by chance, I believe; Stucchi don't seem to list them anymore, but you could enquire. Yes the pipes are Lafranconi Competizione, married to original 38mm headers. I have these pipes, but with Lafranconi 40mm headers. The pipes are currently available at Stein und Dinse GMBh @ c £500 and come with adapters for original 38mm headers.. The 40mm headers are again, very rare.
Alan Price thanks very much, I luckily came across a seat recently when someone agreed to sell it to me, he was a real nice lad too. I have ordered the pipes from Stein Dinse and look forward to fitting them. Thanks for your information. That's a beautiful bike you have there, mine is in blue.
Hello Tyrone! The solo seat was ordered through MGcycle here in the US many years ago. It was an imported solo from Italy. I just checked their site and they do have a different one still available and from Italy party number: 14461551. Good luck!
Hey guys sorry I didn't respond. The wheels are the original Borrani rims used for MG's (not original LM1s). I've seen them pop up on Ebay every now and then, however, you can actually piece them together brand new from Borrani.
Salut ... sur cette vidéo de 2013, il me semble que le moteur aurait bien besoin d'un réglage aux jeux de soupapes qui font entendre leurs tintamarres.... tic tic tic tic ....Ah ah ah

The rumble of the engine still churns my gut, even after 35 years.
Not many engines makes music like a Guzzi engine that breathes and exhales less restricted!! Guzzisti for life
The best motorcycle sound forever...

Me too. I've owned a LM1000 form 1988 with LaFranconi Competizione. Not running since 8 years.
You blokes should be ashamed of yourselves.
Give it to me.

it`s 40 years since I bought my first LeMans, such a delight.

Agree. The original light was too awkward looking

Looks good with the spoked wheels which replaced the attractive but heavy cast items. Probably handles better now.

I just soiled myself; That is INCREDIBLE!!
Nice. I sold my Lanfranconis a few months ago and now wish I hadn't.
Just beautiful!

当時の販売コピーが「ハンドリング世界一」だったらしいが、ホンマかな?四輪のロータスヨーロッパが同じコピーだったらしい。一説には売りが無い車種が苦し紛れの言い訳だったとも「やれば出来る子」かなw
Bella! Peró non e originale.
