If you ever wondered what kind of impact your channel creates.......I started playing guitar in 1961, played until 2021, when I fell hard and smashed my right hand. Bones healed, but nerve damage was not good. This came up, I felt like a man possessed (in a positive way), pulled out one of my acoustics and, even though it hurt like crazy, I managed to play this through. Thank you Angela, this was a huge, important moment for me. 😇🌹🕊️😁
same here..I played for thirty years and then developed arthritis. These reactions are just what I need! Btw wondering if you ever tried his "Pooh" song...thats a tough one!
@@dannycasson1551 Hey Danny, pleasure to meet you. ✌️ I don't think I ever tried Pooh Corners. I'll trade with you: ever hear of Dave Van Ronk? I never heard anybody successfully cover his "Hey Come Back Baby!" Heard some close arrangements, but none as good as his! 😁🕊️
Anne Murray, the beautiful and talented songstress from Canada also did a version of this song! I don't know if her version or this duos version came out 1st! It doesn't really matter, they are both great versions! Loggins and Messina also had another hit titled Your Mama Don't Dance and Your Daddy Don't Rock & Roll! You all know Kenny also had a successful solo career, but I don't know about Dave Messina's solo efforts! You did a good job of describing the meaning of the song, if only we could all have a happy ending with that magical person! Maybe one day!
It's Jim Messina, not Dave. Also, the Loggins and Messina version came out in 1971 and the Anne Murray version in 1972. Kenny Loggins wrote the song for his brother Danny. Having said that, Anne Murray's version is also beautiful. I haven't heard it in a long time, but I always enjoyed it when I did.
LOVE that song! Especially the various solo instruments tearing it up in the middle of the song. Loggins and Messina did that quite a bit on a few songs like Angry Eyes, Sailin' the Wind and Be Free. Fantastic songwriters and arrangers!!
Angela, absolutely one of my favorite duos of all time. Ready for a shocker? …. Kenny Loggins actually wrote that song when he was a senior in high school! What a mature song for someone that age. Probably one of the best songs of that era. I actually got to see to Loggins and Messina in concert when they were in their heyday (a real blessing and treat).
I was in the dentist's chair the other day getting a root canal and this came on and the young technician sang along. I couldn't say anything but I found it interesting that a yougng 20-something was singing along with a song that over 50 years old.
I got corrected again by another viewer! That's what it's all about, helping one another in different ways! That's how we learn and grow! I remember a couple of weeks ago, I mistakingly stated that the song Poetry Man was written and performed by Joni Mitchell, when in fact it was written and performed by Phoebe Snow! You live and you learn, and everyday is a new challenging adventure!
It was really fun to see you genuinely surprised by a song you’ve known and enjoyed most of your life !! Why your channel is so enjoyable !! God Bless !! 🙏🏻✝️❤️
I'm old enough to have heard this song when it first came out, but thank you SO MUCH to let us listen to the song all the way before commenting on it. That's so refreshing, in comparison to many UA-cam reactions, some of which interrupt so many times that I don't see how they can possibly have really HEARD all the nuances. It was great -- thanks again!
You mentioned this would make a good wedding song... There is a song commonly called the Wedding Song ("There Is Love") that was for many the quintessential song played at weddings in the 1970s. It was made famous by the trio Peter, Paul, and Mary. Together with the Carpenters "We've Only Just Begun" no wedding in the 70s was complete without these two songs.
Danny's song was one my first singalong songs as a teenager especially when I was driving! Later, I grew to love Kenny Loggins' music on the "Footloose " soundtrack.
Kenny wrote this song for his brother Danny while still in high school. In 74 and 75 this song was still getting a lot of air play and I had just gotten married and was waiting for the birth of my daughter. Memories.
Angela you're a beautiful young lady and I really love your reviews and I'm so glad that young people today can hear the music that I heard when I was your age It's awesome that your generation can appreciate good quality music and good quality lyrics when you hear them It brings joy to my heart thank you
L&M had a great string of music before they disbanded but my two favorite tunes are "Watching the River Run" (Check that one out): and one that was never released as a single - give a listen to "Pretty Princess" (an amazing sax solo)
This was great, Angela! I’ve been listening to this album for 50 years. Finding that my girlfriend, now wife of 39 1/2 years, also loved it when we began dating (for 4 years) also loved it helped seal our feelings for each other. When we began having kids, Danny’s Song was often and fondly reprieved. Since I have not seen it mentioned in the comments yet, I would like to suggest “Vahevala” by them. Intro is breathtaking and the song rocks in a funky way. Thank you, Angela, for what you provide on your channel.
Angela, you should check out Anne Murray's version. Also from Anne you should check out: Shadows in the Moonlight, I Just Fall In Love Again and Broken Hearted Me. So good and I think you'll be saying "her voice!". 😊
This is the first song Kenny Loggins wrote when he was 18 as a gift to his brother who just had his first kid. Funny how this is the same guy who wrote the theme songs for Top Gun and Caddyshack.
You should check out the pilot episode of Raising Hope. It was a great show and the final scene of the pilot episode has an incredibly touching scene featuring this song.
No surprise you know it; it's practically part of the "Great American Songbook" at this point. Many have covered it, most notably Anne Murray. Though most cover artists do remove the 1970s hipster verses about getting high and astrological signs, lol
I just scrolled and scrolled and scrolled, but didn't see an actual answer to your question. My own opinion is that, given the sound of this song, and the type of song that it is, and how the instrument is played, in this instance I would call it a violin
I was a teenager when this duo made their music in the 70's. Great songs! Another feel good song that I wish you would react to is "I believe you" by the Carpenters! (Please) I'd love to see your take on it.
Hi Angela, please cover 'We just disagree ' by Dave Mason. It's one of my favourites from the 70's. Also give a listen to 'How long' by Ace. Another great tune and Paul Carrack's first hit song.
I was going to give you my thoughts on what the difference between fiddle and violin are, but figured it was easier to steal it from a musical instrument site on the web: "A violin and a fiddle are the same four-stringed instrument, generally played with a bow, strummed, or plucked. They are identical in their physical appearance. What distinguishes a violin from a fiddle is the style of music that is played on the instrument; it’s all in how you play it." A Fiddle is Country !!! In rock, it's a violin.
Try some music by YES one of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time and my favorite band. You haven't reacted to them at all. They have many long songs that are masterpieces. Not your usual music. Some good ones include "Roundabout", "Close to the Edge", "The Gates of Delirium". "Awaken", "Turn of the Century"... Loads of good ones. I will subscribe if you play some of their music and so will hundreds of YES fans. You will be blown away by some of their songs.

One of the best songs ever.

My parents used to sing this to me when I was little. They both sang, and my Dad played the guitar! It's always been special to me because of that! ❤

Hey beautiful person
Why Jim Messina Picked Kenny Loggins Over Dan Fogelberg ua-cam.com/video/hxKUrD9XM5g/v-deo.html Great Story
(Sheepishly) thought Anne Murray was the original singer.
Sounds good… but it’s a bit off from the original studio version i think
Its exactly the album version
I am not a huge fan of Loggins & Messina but, this is a very good song. Loggins was better on his own in my opinion.
