- Howdy! Today I feel crappy still and it's too damn hot outside but I want to stream so I figured we could hang out with one of my favorite creators to talk about all things music and otherwise.

Still don't know how to know when a livestream is going on. No notifications on the Discord or YT.😢
Would have been nice if the mic you used for this video had appeared in your 'Gear I Use' list.
Who knows? Maybe it will one day.
;-)
Can you please link John Meyer’s channel? Impossible to search what with John Mayer.
Wait, i thought you're both the same person
Oh dang I thought this was a well done internal dialogue style video for like 45 minutes but you're right
Same!!
Still haven’t seen both of us in the same place at the same time just saying
Peter Parker interviewing Spiderman
🤣
I do my art my music because I love and enjoy the process of creation. I share it on streaming and friends, but that is secondary. I don't even know how many people look or listen to my stuff. i find getting caught up in that is toxic
This was a great and interesting conversation to listen to! Good stuff!
Moustache "pawah"! 😄This was an awesome conversation, really relatable and enjoyable. Thanks to you two for what you do! 🎹💟
31:10 - This is exactly how Deadmau5 started, he listened to the EDM top on beatport with Duda and just went "wait .. I can do that." He then started to hyperfocus on that specific [BSOD style] genre on purpose.
Another gift to start the saturday morning with. Only 20 minutes in and I came to the realization: I go to Cameron's content for the philosophical points, mindset and insights, and I go to Nathan's content for music and composition insights. Exactly that, but also the reverse. Thanks a lot; both of you ❤
I was delighted to find this - I sub to both of you guys. As for the "I only do music for me" discussion...I've thought of this countless times. What I would say for myself is that I don't make music for me, but I do it on my terms...But art is not meant to be hidden away in a locked room. I want people to hear it, and that is such a challenge requiring talent, determination and some degree of luck.
The crossover we didn't deserve but the one we needed! I love both of your channels!
Good conversation. My answer, that’s working for me, is a full time day job and doing music at night. I am my own patron. I can make the music I want. If I had more time to do it I don’t even know how many more hours in a day I could throw at it. Respect to you all, respect for what I’m doing, it’s all good.
Sandpaper and Lube collab album when Venus Jones?
In all seriousness, this was an incredibly thought provoking conversation, particularly as it dipped into audience expectations vs the art /you/ want to create. At the end of the day, making stuff that you like is rewarding mentally, but sometimes you gotta pay the bills…
If I could press the Like button about 200 times, it still wouldn't match what I got from this video. I have notes I have taken. It was that informative, that inspirational. Thank both of you! 😊
Really enjoyed watching this from two of my favorites on the YT. Just nice to find folks talking honestly about the stuff that really matters in this business of making music. Great job, and there was certainly a lot to take away and think about 🙂
Music production is a labor of love , if you wanna make money at it good luck!
21:00 I think I understand the issue you are faced with. But your music-centered videos really bring quality and, though I dislike the word, “value” to me as a viewer. In other words I find them both inspiring and useful.
Nice chat. There's always a law of diminishing returns on polishing your art before release.. at some point you have to let go and put it out there, even if it could be better after much more time, better to move on and make the next thing (or next update) and learn from the previous one. Also I think this comes with experience.. knowing when to stop tweaking/adding stuff. Quite a few points in this discussion resonate with me as a plugin software dev. especially on the subjects of perseverance, comparing to others, getting to a break-through point in terms of visibility.
"Three key philosophies for understanding emotion in music" - I enjoyed immensely btw. Even left a comment on "high melancholia" - it resonated; it was insightful and I, for one, related to it - thank you very much!
You are both amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this.
Interesting to hear JNJ mention discovering Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds as they were a gateway for me also into neo classical and I've had their music on repeat for a number of years now. Very much an inspiration for me and the 3 hardcover Sheets piano books from Frahm haven't left my piano since I bought them (likewise we the Arnalds Some Kind of Peace sheet music).
Being classically trained myself it was interesting and ear opening to experience their art (recorded and live).
Great chat guys, thank you. Keep making beautiful art and disguising it as content to get it out there ;)
Anyone noticed the opposing angled ceilings, they're trying to make us believe they're not even in the same room but we know!
a collab video with both of you from two different perspectives would be just the bees knees 😊
As a small-ish youtuber this is useful information and great to know what NOT to do. Hehe, you guys are awesome, take care. Cheers from Norway. :)
Jameson’s so cool
Great conversation!
2:03:48 This is a great question which should be a FAQ somewhere, and the guy on the left totally misses the point.
We need more Venus Theories who are down to earth and understand the question 😢
Nice stream, big up guys!
Between Two Grumpstachios
gutted to have missed this chat 😞
just too late for me over here in the UK, unless I know well in advance and set up for a late one
watching back now though, so I should be thankful for that at least
cheers,
andy 🙂
Cool podcast! 👍 two real buckaroonies
Hey man if you need any encouragement to do more of this kind of video this video was really interesting
You both are verryyyy intersting; thank’s
Aw, darn. I missed another one, haha.
I put my phone in Google Cardboard to watch this.
Artist: "Aw, that guy's [cake] is better / more original than mine. ☹ "
Art Enjoyers: "Oh, boy! Two [cakes]! 😄 "
Matt Walsh and Ethan Hawke sure do know a lot
😂
Does Nathan look and sound a bit like Matt Walsh?
Actually if you guys both release Same type of videos talking about similar topic would be awesome because both of you can give your own take and would be awesome anyways ! watch Nathan and Venus
1:13:16 Completely agree on this! Just ensuring I finished music tracks was the most significant factor in me improving in all of my creative efforts. I made a video recently with lots of strategies for helping with this problem if anyone is struggling ✨🪐
