    Amazing, the oil filter just on top of the car! Toyotas and Nissans have their filters hidden underneath the engine and with their new filter canister - it takes more time and its such a hassle to change it!

    Currently shopping for a car and I'm looking for the serviceability. My worry is that the top cover and uses plastic keepers, not sure how long those keepers will last. I hope there are screws to fasten that plastic cover.
    Second is the oil filter plastic housing. And will a fumoto valve work as a substitute for a drain plug valve?

    I concur with those who say use a VW 508 spec 0w20 only here, not the black-jug Castrol dexos1 0w20 seen in the video. Your engine will barely know the difference though! Mainly "safe" to use VW 508 over the long 6-year engine warranty for sure, just in case a warranty claim is made on the engine. I think the best VW 508 oil out there is Mobil1 ESP x2 0w20 (Suncoast Porsche internet source in the U.S.), since it not only passes all the VW 508 engine tests but ALSO piles on more torture-testing in the form of Mercedes 229.71, GM dexosD, & Jaguar-LandRover too. Castrol VW 508 is very decent though, and for my first oil change, I'm getting an oil change kit with that from ECS Tuning (internet shippped), including the drain plug & Mann HU6013Z oil filter.

      I think if you care about your engine your better of doing full synthetic oil changes more often like every 5000km or every year which ever comes first instead of worrying what brand your putting in. Obviously make sure you put in the create weight.

      VW508 is not an oil brand, but rather a specification designed to work for this vehicle’s engine and emission system. This is described in the owner’s manual you show in the video. Many oil manufacturers make oils meeting the VW508 spec, including Castrol, but it doesn’t come in the black jug you show in the video.

    • @Johnny847
      @Johnny847 3 місяці тому

      @@PonderingOne Plus to keep that 6 year warranty in place, you must buy the oil and filter at VW, or have the VW dealer do the oil change. After the warranty is over, you can use the black jug Castrol but MUST change the oil every 5k miles. The main differences between oil types is the additive package which allows the 10K oil change interval.

    • @PonderingOne
      @PonderingOne 3 місяці тому

      @@Johnny847
      This is not accurate for the US. You can keep your warranty intact if you use the correct spec oil (VW508 in this case), and you maintain records (receipts, service dates and odometer readings). You can buy the oil online or at auto part stores, or the dealer.
      I would continue to use the spec oil after warranty. Not that much more expensive.

      The 20 vs 30 is just the grade at operating temperatures. 40 is a higher viscosity. Your area might be more hot in the summer compared to mine. Follow the manual.

      Excellent point. If there is any engine component damage or other issue and the VW technician pulls the dipstick and it's not the 508 spec dyed oil, they will certainly deny any warranty coverage. Being a 6 year/72K mile warranty, I sure wouldn't take the risk of using a non-spec oil. I've read that the 508 oil is extremely tough, especially for a 0W20.

      Agree that VW508 is the only thing to use but the oil changes color over time and is brown when you drain it.

      @@samiseries6295 For late-model Tiguan engines, VW recommends 0W-20 oil that meets VW 508.00 specification. That is currently "Castrol Edge Professional Long Life", and NOT the regular "Castrol Edge" that can be found at local discount stores. Your video appears to show the wrong oil type. . . If you choose not to use oil that meets VW 508.00 specification and have a major engine issue, then VW might reject your warranty claim because of this. Over a decade ago, Audi and VW initially rejected many warranty claims regarding engine sludge build-up because owners either did not follow the service interval or used the wrong oil spec. Now it is much easier for VW to tell when the correct or incorrect type of fluid has been used because of the green color/dye in VW 508.00 rated oils.
