Several years ago I saw this video and it caused me to create a threshing bucket similar to yours. The difference was I cut a much smaller hole in the center of the lid just about an inch in diameter. This greatly reduced the vibrations when threshing and allowed my to thresh more head of wheat without making a mess. I too had my brother weld some smooth hanging lamp chain to a 3/8 inch piece of rebar which fit my electric hand drill. I too took the time to cut off the heads from the stalks of the wheat. I still use it and it works GREAT! Cutting off the heads from the stalks is very time consuming but I do all this cutting in my basement in the evenings where I can watch/listen to lots of "UA-cam University" videos of others in the evenings, THANKS for your informative threshing setup. My next project is to modify my scythe with a cradle to help keep the wheat stalks cut and bunched together after each swing.

This is awesome! It helps bring scripture to life. There’s lot of reference to threshing and chaff, that I didn’t quite understand. As a city girl, I had no idea what threshing and winnowing looks like, but this is fascinating. Haha! Thank you!

Same!!! I am fascinated by this process… now I have even more clarity about the process & how God uses it as a metaphor in the Bible for when he will separate the righteous from the unrighteous. The Bible says He will have his winnowing fan in His hand and clear His threshing floor, and gather the the wheat (the righteous), but burn the chaff (unrighteous)!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾

We appreciate the hard work that is done before bread cakes parties and all the things we love and enjoy go to the shelves. Many times we don’t even remember there’s the before process and stop to appreciate those who do that job. 👍🏼

This video gives me chills as it helps me to understand what God means about threshing and winnowing in the Bible. Now I really understand the meaning of chaff and how He will separate the wheat (the righteous) from the chaff (unrighteousness ) in Luke 3:17. 😮 In Isaiah 41:15-16, He also says that He makes us a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth & we will thresh the mountains & beat them small. I’m the threshing instrument, the flail. And the wheat is the mountain that I will thresh and beat small. Mountains representing every high thing, evil thing that sets itself up against the the righteousness of God, anything that fights against us or contends with us. God is making us a new instrument to demolish or & destroy it!! Hallelujah!!! Thank you for this video for context. You explained everything in great detail that I was able to understand it. To God be the Glory!!!

Thank You for the great video and information. All This time I thought threshing was removing the wheat from the stem. It's also hulling the wheat berry. Live and learn. Again Thank You.

I'd bolt the bucket down to a piece of 3/4 plywood extending out each side about 6 or 7 inches so you can stand on it and hold the bucket stable.
Great improvised design on the flail. Hopefully you have a "grid down" power source to operate it.
Coupling several vertical flails together along with several buckets, the whole thing could be run by a vertical shaft mower engine or DC motor and increase production with the same amount of input.
    Thanks, great video!!!

Cheers, used a drill and a paint mixing attachment to good effect although the 710watt drill burnt out after awhile, oops.

Aside from the little bits of plastic that I'm sure the chain is tearing off the bucket and being added to mix nice

I love the story of The Little Red Hen, and this process reminds me of all the work that is involved with wheat production. Now all you need to do is put up a video of making bread from your wheat! I was thinking that you could make the threshing bucket with a 1/4" mesh bottom and then set it into another solid bottomed collection bucket. That may remove a great deal of the larger pieces from the initial threshing. As for winnowing, it looks like you could also put a rectangle piece of 1/4 mesh resting on the inner lip of the cooler while you poor the grain berries in front of the fan; that might also save you a step with removing the bigger pieces. : )

I like the simplicity of it, you could yse a threaded rod and slip it through the chain, fixing tge chains at regular intervals by double nuts. I suppose it might help with long and short lengths of chain.

Great vid! I wonder if you can use a big tray of 1/4” wire mesh hardware cloth as a sieve for initial removal of chaff. (So berries fall through sieve). Love this vid!

I didn't get it - does the machine removes the husks from the grains or does it just removes the grains (with the husks over them) from the stalks?

I have winnowed my won wheat but I still get berries that are covered in a papery husk. Is there anything I can do about it beside picking them out by hand? There are too many to do that so I am also wondering if it is ok to go ahead and just grind the wheat with the papery husk anyway? Your reply will be very much appreciated.

No the husks are toxic. Reason why so much effort is made from early times to remove it.

Would this method work for dehusking oats too?

    • @americanpatriot3638
      @americanpatriot3638 4 роки тому

Oats is considerably lighter than wheat, but with some careful adjustments to fan speed it would work well. Threshing process is more or less the same. Having the knowledge of how a combine harvester works will make this process much simpler. Cut, in the example shown here allow grain to fully dry, thresh(beat), winnow(fan), sieve(strainer).

They’ll settle in the bottom as they’re smaller than the berries. Then you can eat them separately.

Almost as incredibly inefficient as home blacksmiths. That's a HUGE waste of electricity there to do so, so little work. You've used god knows how much power to do what a hand cranked machine will do in five minutes flat.
