  • Seed to plant this wheat came from some straw we bought a couple years ago. Red winter wheat harvested by hand and ground into flour. Homestead life. .
    Home made flour, grown at home, DIY, gardening, winnowing, cartwheel, yep
    Thank you to Wulfbriar for their live performance at Hidden Grove we featured the recording in this video :)

    I’ve never grown or processed wheat before, but we had some birdseed spill out of a feeder, and this year have a small (maybe 10 sq feet) patch of wheat growing! Thank you for showing how it grows, as now I plan on harvesting soon to plant the whole batch of new seed!

    Delicious!
    Watching the berries pour out, being separated by the wind, was really satisfying to watch.

    use a fan to winnow, make a tool for threshing by taking a dowl rod about 1/2 " attach a length of chain (a little heavier than dog chain) put the free end of the dowel rod in a drill that's your thresher. now take a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, drill a hole in the center of the lid about 2 or 3 " dia. . put the wheat heads in the bucket, put on the lid, put the chain end of the threshing tool in the bucket and turn on the drill (a screw gun should work), lower the chain into the wheat and now you are threshing. give it try.

    Berries! What happened to the word kernal. Its been used for 100's of years. Berries come from flowers. You make jam from berries... No such thing as wheat jam.

      One of the most efficient ways I've seen at this scale anyway it's to use a 2 ft tall oblong stock tank.
      Use a string trimmer in one end to knock them all off on one end, clean em up a bit of you miss some of the husk then scoop them down to the other end and hit it with a leaf blower. I think I saw one family clear about three acres worth in a day using this method. Granted they had a lot of extra hands and were running two stock tanks. But they nearly filled a gravity wagon.

    • @everythingsustainable
      @everythingsustainable  3 роки тому +3

      It should take around 3 months to see the seed head form. Never tried seeding out wheat grass, but it came from a seed, so should make some :)
