M4L looks super intimidating to me, but, as always, you make it look much friendlier. Now I have the confidence I lacked to start getting into it! Thank you, Liina! you're an amazing teacher :)
I have to create a max midi or audio effect for my final project in my Electronic Music class and I had no idea what I was doing before I saw this. You’re incredible at teaching; you saved me a lot of tears of frustration.
This was amazing! Very quick start without the fluff The detail about setting up presentation mode came in so clutch Please do more of these I always love seeing your tutorials I swear you could teach a cat how to bark!
This has really helped... im looking at trying to make something to automate visuals based on say track inputs... and this has at least put me on the long road towards my goal... I followed along, pausing and rewinding... just creating a volume fader has inspired me that maybe I can do what I want... Also, ableton never stops amazing me...
I've using sensomatic's Usine for building live patch setups for my touch screen laptop. Just purchased ableton and had no idea it had this power. I should be able to learn quickly thanks to your clear introduction and max similarities to usine.
LAN, you are brilliant. I'm a qualified teacher and you are teaching by the book!!! Well done, really high level teaching techniques (or maybe you are just a natural talent...) Wish I could give some 100 likes... xx
Great tutorial! Thank you! I am a career software developer and hobbyist music producer who recently switched to Ableton from Logic. I am definitely looking forward to diving into live and hopefully combining what I know we’ll with what I love. 😁 This will be a great place to start! Thank you!

Excellent tutorial. Very well presented and explained. Perfect for a start. Thank you very much!
Ok almost sold on max for live, but i am wondering if it allows nesting, like the reason combinator...the reason combinator allows patching already available devices and make a new instrument out of it...what i mean to say is that if i need a delay in my new max for live device, would i have to make my own or can i just use the delay available in my Ableton library which i own? Obviously the editor will not allow me to edit that delay effect, but will allow me to connect it inside my new device and map controls in the presentation mode to the actual controls on that device...similar to the reason combinator...i can use or edit a combinator as long as i own all the devices in the combinator...my basic question is that will i have to program everything myself or can i use the devices i have bought inside my new device...i really don't want to program my own reverb, delay distortion etc from scratch...when there are better instruments/fx already available...which i could use
Thanks for the videos! I'm in live 10 and I can't get this slider to work. I even downloaded your sample file from your site and loaded it into live as a device on a track and it's not working. I can see the fader and edit the patch fine, it's just not moving the audio track fader. I feel like I missed something. What could be missing?
Hi, i think i have the same problem.... At 11 min 36 seconds, i clik on the toogle, that is connect to message with the good input, and i don't have nor 1, or 0... I don't know why.... Did you resolve this? Thanks! 🙂
Hey, new subscriber here. Came from your Splice’s compression video. Super interested in leant M4L. Can you please create a tutorial for creating the meter you used in that compression video, maybe with a floating window concept? I’ll be very thankful to you. Happy new year. 🙂
@@LNADoesAudioStuff thanks for your reply. In the video, it didn’t show how to add meter numbers on the side. Can you please share this M4L device? That would be so cool if you.
Hi, thanks so much for the video. At 11 min 36, i clic on the x of the toogle, that is connected to message box, at the good input, and nothing happens: nor 1, or 0, why????? Thanks 🙂
I really appreciate the tutorial. Im at a bit of a deficit cause im wanting to modify an envelope follower to add an automatable parameter( record automation in a new lane) of the detector result. I just dont know where to start. I've played around but don't know what im doing. Im wondering if you could help point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

Hi LNA, I'm very new to Max for Life but I have viewed your very good ''Getting Started" presentation a couple of times and have gained a tiny bit more knowledge! However, I have one comment to make about your presentation. Your presentation is quite blurred, making the detail on screen difficult to see clearly. I hope you can fix this for future presentations?
I cant seem to find anyone having any issues with M4L devices' map function not working, so i thought i might as well ask here. Is there anyone who knows what i can do to resolve this?
Hi! I loved this tutorial and I was wondering if you'd be able to help me with an issue I'm having with Max MSP. I'm trying to use a sensor to control the volume of an audio file. Right now I'm using a photocell sensor with an Arduino Uno and using the input from the board to play the audio. I want it to control the audio to, as there's less light = decreases the volume/ more light = increases. Just not sure how to go about it since I'm new to the program. Thanks if you see this!
hi luna sup. I got an idea for an instrument its based off the coltrane circle now known as the harmonagon. you just array the notes in a circle its played by drawing geometric shapes on it. you make into an instrument like a xylophone for kids to begin its meant to teach kids music theory. later to use in ableton to make and mix music. first one to get the patent wins. ok have a good summer now. make sure to try to visit redrocks and wear sunglasses at night. i'm telling everyone about it so if you get it first great if not someone is going to make it.
