I'm glad that you pinned this comment at the top. I'll bet you got quite a bit of feedback concerning safety. My Filipina wife says I have no business going any further southwest than CDO. That is the limit. There is a definite line that tourist should not cross and it is fairly obvious, but no one wants to spell it out.
You should follow your own advice. Don't guess, check the US State Department website for travel advisories. Zamboanga has not been listed in over a decade. Hint: you are roughly two hours from the nearest zone of concern.
I don't know why it is that people who have not been to places say don't go there .. Becoming Filipino has been to every province in the Philippines including no go places and has found everyone so helpful and great people and no problems ..
But Kyle is young and speaks the language so of course he is accepted in more remote places than an entitled expat looking to exploit the locals in whatever fashion. Government country travel advisories exist for a reason. Ignore at your peril.
They say don't go there because of the documented fact that there is a heightened risk of bad things happening to you there. I've never been to Afghanistan, but I'd still advise my friends and family to choose another country for now, even though a number of travel youtubers have visited it and returned home in one piece.
The majority of the Expats live in UPTOWN- just 5 miles South of downtown- good zoning, no trikes, lots of high end gated subdivisions. The Expats have a restaurant called KL clubhouse they meet Wednesday afternoons and first and third Saturday nights. Next time you’re in town give me a shout and I’ll show you around.
I was in Butuan city in October, met my girl and all her family. I go back this Saturday. This time im staying with her to save $ . I work at a golf course in the Chicago area so im staying till March 😎
Great vlog, Chad…probably your best. You mentioned Duma is vlog central and they are primarily talking heads. The reason this is your best is because you are moving around and showing life happening. I particularly love the deserted pathways. I walk 8 miles every other day and they seems to be a great place to do it.
Hi Chad great video. you are right about the duma vloggers just sit and talk. same stories and not learning much about phil. when u first came back to the phil i was watching u interview the vloggers in duma and i thought oh no hope chad dont be like them also. im glad u out and about like before u went back home. i like adventures not sit and talk. once in a while its ok if u are trying to educate us on certain topics. too many vloggers in duma i dont watch them anymnore just talking. great to see u out again. stay safe and looking foward to your videos
Love the fact you don’t see many travelers! The Med costs are unbelievable! We get so raped here in the west. Can’t wait to get my ass there. Travel safe brother.! ✌🏻
Hi I live here in Cagayan de Oro City unfortunately most of the people who’s never been here in our place said it is too dangerous since we are part of Mindanao little did they know CDO known as City of Golden Friendship. It is safe and there’s a lot of fun you can do here.. Hope your having fun in your visit here.😊
My GF lives in Lala near Maranding/Tubod. We even built a home there. I'm from the USA. People were so friendly there. I never felt any fear for my safety. We even took a trip to Cagayan and it was the same, very friendly and nice people. :)
I'm just finishing 4 weeks on Mindanao. Traveled by bus with my Pinay CDO to Davao to Digos to Surigao and day after tomorrow from Siargao back to CDO and then 2Go ferry back to Manila. We did not feel uncomfortable in any place at any time.
In case you didn't know CDO is not a small city!! They have almost as many people as Davao City and Cebu City. 1.7 million people in the CDO metro area!!!
When I was a teenager I spent my "teens" life in Butuan City/ Cagayan de oro city before coming here in Italy. I adore Cagayan all the town of Misamis Oriental, honestly I Love Philippines even I'm stay here in Europa for 38 years
I heard there's some really great waterfalls in illigan you should go check it out .. I was in c d o last October it's a very safe place.. Most of mindanao is very safe
I like videos like this. Views and prices. People and places. I don't mind the jumping around. If you keep them coming then I'll keep watching. Thank you.
Thank you I appreciate it yeah I'll be doing more of these mixed in with other things, by the way thanks again for recommending the Charles Schwab checking account it's been so nice not having any ATM fees!
Been to Bukidnon about ten years ago for the Caamulan Festival. The next day, the mayor said he was pleased to see so many poreigners there - all six of us. What an AMAZING memory that was!
I will be in CDO the middle of February to hangout 2 weeks with a girl I met online. My first trip to Mindinao. We will be staying 2 weeks at the Ultra Winds Mountain Resort then I will head back to the USA. Need to get a way for a little bit. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks Chad. CDO is a great place. Some other vloggers I know have spent time there and other places in Mindanao. Its bad that Canada's website puts up bad warnings about that area. Like anywhere be safe and travel smart.
If you have the opportunity to go to CDO again, go take a bus to Malaybalay, Bukidnon. It's maybe 2.5-3 hours away. Bukidnon is a very scenic area. It is mountainous so it has cooler temperatures. Spend the night there. I am sure you will like it. Also see another "safe" part of Mindanao. I suggest you go visit the Benedictine Abbey there. It's the home of Benedictine monks in the Philippines. They have a beautiful church, Church of the Transfiguration. You don't have to be religious to appreciate this place.
Interesting vlog. Philippines is a good place to visit and friendly people. Somethings that I found hard there was the lack of what I think of as interesting architecture, it's something that gets a bit hard on the eyes. So much is run down looking and corrugated metal.
Hi Chad, good to see you feeling safe traveling around and walking the streets in CDO, etc. Great to see all the friendly Filipino people saying hello. Here in southern Japan, the locals keep very much to themselves. No one makes eye contact nor says hello 😮. The culture in the PHs is so different from Japan. Enjoy!
Hey Chad thanks for the Vid! Really like the walk and talk. Nothing is more boring than a video from a living room. might as well stayed in the US. mix it up and have some fun. don't overthink it. Takes us on a trip to the store or the beach where ever. We don't care we just want to go "Hangin wit Chad" haha The wackier the better. Show us what's behind the curtain in the PH. Best wishes in your travels.

@ChadFosterExplores my grandfather came from Iloilo so I am really looking forward to watching your videos from there. I watch these types of videos to connect with my Filipino heritage and learn about the culture in a small way. The only tradition passed from my grandfather is the food, as he did not speak of his life there. If you meet any Villanueva families in Iloilo perhaps they are my relatives! LOL
Thank you for replying. So many expats assume the dangers of rebels and NPA have been eradicated but that is very far from the truth. There are many places even in Negroes my asawa tells me not to travel to.
Hello Chad, I have been to Dipolog City twice in the last 18 months to visit My Girlfriend. I feel very safe there. But when We took a ship from Tagbilaran City to Plaridel, I felt very uncomfortable the way I was being looked at by the Men there. I could see that I wasn't welcome there. Take care.
Absolutely! I did a pretty long one for a week along the north coast into lots of little towns it was amazing! Long story on why I didn't capture it for a Vlog, short version is I just needed a break from shooting and editing , but I'll be doing more of that and capturing it in the future
The entire east coast, from Surigao south to Mati, is really fun! I saw ONE forigner kid my whole ride of maybe 2 weeks along. A surfer kid with his board tied on side of his scooter, lol.
I rode for 4000. miles and 3 MONTHS around almost all of Mindanao during my big ride around all the PH in 2014. Mindanao, and esp. Zamboanga City, was by far the best "fishing" of anywhere in country. I was a geriatric rock star! God that was fun! I wonder what ever happened to.... You get my drift? But Chad, you need a BIKE! Just an N-Max or something. Set yourself free baby!
I spent almost two months there and it was such a wonderful experience, the area was Surigao Del Sur. From beautiful waterfalls, jungle walks and a river that was called Enchanted River was absolutely stunning. There are beaches there that only the locals know, and they would easily challenge Boracay, if not much better. My wife is visiting family over there at the moment, and she said it's between 43C to 45C every day. Don't just drink water Chad, your salt levels will decrease, and it could be fatal, drink electrolyte beverages like soft drink or Gatorade.
That's actually not true in his case. Our body has compensatory mechanism to balance elements. For example as we drink too much water, and the blood sodium level drops slightly, to get rid off the excess water, urination is increased. Too much water causing low salt, is called Hypervolumic Hypornatremia. It happens to senior citizens with medical problems and those that receive excessive IV fluid with less salt in it. Btw, the salt is sodium chloride(NaCl) and it the Sodium that people refer to salt. As long as the person is healthy and eating balanced diet, no issue with hyponatremia(low sodium). Yes electrolyte imbalance can he deadly(Nerves, heart and other organs), but it's very rare unless the person unhealthy. There is such thing as electrolytes overload too which are dangerous too.

I have been to Mindanao many times during the past 25 years mainly just outside the town of San Francisco where my brother lives with his Filipino wife and daughter. They and I have never had any problems. Treat people with respect and on an equal footing then you will receive respect back. Walk around like you own the place treating locals with disdain then expect trouble to come your way.
Hi! I think in every corner of the world there's a dangerous zone. I'm from Davao then I have sister lives in Misamis Oriental, every now and then she goes to Cagayan de oro city, Iligan city. Just be carefull and be humble especially in wearing jewelries, be simple like the people arounds you. Anyway thanks for sharing. Watching from Italy
Hello thank you for visiting CDO, my is from there, We live in WA state currently, but will retire over in Ormoc city. Leyte. I love CDO. If you go back, do a white water rafting trip. 5 of us went for 90 bucks.. I shall never forgetting it… , stay Hydrated my friend.
Chad's Jogging channel; I can jog fast, I can jog slow... should we expect the next episode will be reviewing the latest jogging tights....Hahahaha... Thanks for the take on CDO, can we expect you will be dropping a future episode on Dipilog, Dapitan, and Plaridel? There was so much random sh!t in this vid it was pretty funny. Thanks for sharing. Okay, I will expose this 'secret' hiding/chill place of the upper middle class/upper class from Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental. It's good for retirement. They have second/third houses there. Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon (population: 112k) Malaybalay, Bukidnon (population: 190k) If you want to be near the sea/coast/beach, you can try these municipalities: Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental Gitagum, Misamis Oriental Libertad, Misamis Oriental Initao, Misamis Oriental Balingasag, Misamis Oriental
I love CDO, as far away province from expats. The farther east you go, the higher risk. I went there and stayed for a week in 2008. I wanted to actually travel to Zamboanga where the dialect is chavacano. That's where I was heavily advised not to go. But I hear it's safer in 2024.
It’s actually safe there. Some bloggers even go as far as Tawi-tawi and Sulu. Zamboanga has a different vibe. It’s more on Spanish influence. The women (born and raised there) look like Latinas.
@@JunBermz yes, I met a lady that spoke chavacano. I started speaking Spanish out loud and she was floored. I spoke chavacano!!! Lol! Zamboanga is definitely on my bucket list. I look forward to vlogg and interview locals in Español.
NOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... THAT'S WRONG.....CAGAYAN DE ORO IS SO SAFE....IM FROM CAGAYAN DE ORO. PLACE THATS DANGEROUS IN MINDANAO IS MARAWI THEY ARE ALL MUSLIMS.
CDO is not Mindanao, neither is Davao. Mindanao starts when you are travelling out of Gensan north bound in a multicab where the driver and all others are obviously moslem and you do not know, whether you will be driven into a closed place and end up kidnapped for money. Thats where the fun happens.
hey ive been going down south since 2012 and people are full of crap mindanao is not dangerous at all except maybe the mountains i wouldnt go up there alone i go about 4 hours south east of davao city by private van
What is safe for one person may not be safe for another. Mindanao is a big island...saying Mindanao is not dangerous is a pretty broad statement and perhaps irresponsible to broadcast on UA-cam to folks who are considering going for the first time. The Westerners who had their heads cut off might disagree with you. BTW - Most of the folks who lost their heads also thought they were experienced Mindanao travelers.
@@justsmy5677 That happened more than 20 years ago. Give it a rest. You are not afraid to walk in the malls in the US where someone might possibly open fire at anyone at any time. So why are you afraid of a place which didn't have any foreigners kidnapped for more than 20 years already?
@@wavemaker2077 - check your facts. The two Canadians got their heads cut off 8.5 years ago. Another foreigner was shot and killed in SW Mindanao a week ago. In the PI I can’t carry a knife or a gun. In the States I can carry. Again, I was just trying to point out that ALL of Mindanao is not safe, especially for new folks. What’s wrong with warning new folks that SW Mindanao is a little different than most of the other 7,106 islands?
@@justsmy5677 I'm just talking about the beheadings. You made that as an example. You can't make beheading as an example of how dangerous Mindanano is if there are nothing that happened in last 3 years. As a rule of thumb, avoid BARRM. Well, maybe except Cotabato City. But there are foreign vloggers going around BARRM places (see BecomingFilipino and Kumander Daot). They are trying to remove the stigma of BARRM areas as dangerous places. I just wish for the day when BARRM areas are as safe as other areas in the Philippines to travel.
CDO, Butuan and so on is safe for sure, its nothern Mindao and just like the Visayas. But Ive also spent time in Zamboanga and Cotabato (south Mindanao) and you have to watch your ass. I had an altercation with about 9 Muslim guys near Gen San that cursed me and told me f' you Yankee go home.... In the Zamboanga airport bathroom I had a few Muslim guys eye me and said rude comments too. Others however were polite. But yeah as you said do due diligence.
I hope that, you sir would still be able to read this despite the time that has lapsed since you vlogged this. I don't know if you are from the US or fr Canada.. But i hope that you can clarify the false information about Mindanao in google.. That even made Canada to give an advisory to its citizens warning those who intend to come here.. To be very careful and avoid going to mindanao because its dangerous and filled with criminals.. which is very untrue as you may have already observed. just recently, Philippines has just been voted the third safest country in Asia based on the survey of tourists from different countries who have visited the country.. Also it is 33rd safest country in the world while the U.S is in 52nd. So .. Anyway thanks for coming to our country and hope you will have a very pleasant stay while ur here.
You might want to go to Davao City too. Davao City is even safer than Cagayan de Oro City. It's in the south of Mindanao too. So at least break the stereotype that only the northern part of Mindanao is safe.
Thanks for watching!

Just be carefull and be humble especially in wearing jewelries, be simple like the people arounds you. Anyway thanks for sharing. Watching from Italy

Chad what’s Tagum City like on Mindanao
It’s a nice city not many foreigners and the Big 8 corporate hotel is a great place to stay
I loved how you played to the camera and jogged. You're too funny! When are you expecting to be in Bacolod? It'd be fun to meet up.
Good to have a sense of humor 👍
I was in CDO for one month did not like there , to many people to congested
I have 3 Chinese characters on my left shoulder. I am a white American but many in our village thought I was Yakuza because I could speak to the former Japayuki here 福生市 is my tattoo
Have you been to Pagadian city?
There is an American/Filipina UA-camr couple firmly planted in CDO.

Hey Chad! When you are walking around, like in this video, how do you create such stable videos? Do you have a tripod system of sorts to make sure your phone doesn't jiggle? Maybe you don't use a phone but something else?
Gopro :)
@@ChadFosterExplores Something like this? Is this a good one? "GoPro HERO10 Black - Waterproof Action Camera with Front LCD and Touch Rear Screens, 5.3K60 Ultra HD Video, 23MP Photos, 1080p Live Streaming, Webcam, Stabilization"
Are you an ex special forces buddy? Your eyes and head are constantly darting all over the place as if you are expecting trouble!!
Where do you prefer for expat living Duma or CDO?
Okay, I will expose this 'secret' hiding/chill place of the upper middle class/upper class from Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental. It's good for retirement. They have second/third houses there.
Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon (population: 112k)
Malaybalay, Bukidnon (population: 190k)
If you want to be near the sea/coast/beach, you can try these municipalities:
Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental
Gitagum, Misamis Oriental
Libertad, Misamis Oriental
Initao, Misamis Oriental
Balingasag, Misamis Oriental
This is the cocon market.
NOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... THAT'S WRONG.....CAGAYAN DE ORO IS SO SAFE....IM FROM CAGAYAN DE ORO. PLACE THATS DANGEROUS IN MINDANAO IS MARAWI THEY ARE ALL MUSLIMS.
Yes exactly that's what I said in the video how safe I thought it was, it was great!
CDO is not Mindanao, neither is Davao. Mindanao starts when you are travelling out of Gensan north bound in a multicab where the driver and all others
are obviously moslem and you do not know, whether you will be driven into a closed place and end up kidnapped for money.
@@wavemaker2077 - You just proved my point by saying parts of Mindanao are not safe. I think we have exhausted this topic. Cheers.
What is CDO?
Cagayan de Oro in Mindanao
🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈👍👍
