Dan, this was AMAZING! Having the simple solution all in one video is such a great re-cap! Thank you! This video is the ONLY thing I'm doing today to fix myself! Going out and having fun and applying safety messages when I need them. So appreciate how you simply things. :)
Thanks Dan! Great to have it all in one video like this - I will keep this one to share with others who are not yet familiar with the concepts and need a foot in the door. I think many of us have a similar experience to the client you mentioned, where our secondary symptoms will melt away easily once we understand perceived danger pain, yet our core 'original' symptom might prove much more stubborn. I personally struggle with doubt about the TMS diagnoses for my core symptom, because of its consistency and predictability. One thing that you mentioned here, and I saw Dr. Shubiner mention, which has helped me a lot is realizing that even physically caused pain can be greatly alleviated through safety therapy. We've all heard the stories of people whose scans show significant damage, yet they can overcome their pain. There is a point at which pain no longer serves us and regardless of its cause, we can calm down our brain and overcome it. That's my working theory anyway :)
Maybe that's why I'm at a stand still. I've developed symptom imperative of allodynia of my lower body. I give myself messages of safety. I tell myself that I am safe and my legs are not sunburned. But it's still in the back of my mind of worrying that it will last. I am trying. But now the improvement of the original has stalled.
Watch this video again. Evaluate if you have the clarity that everything is TMS/Perceived danger pain. Once you have that, change the script and focus on safety, not worry. ua-cam.com/video/5SsKnAgAvnY/v-deo.html
I am much better but I still find these videos very helpful. Repetition is helpful. I believe that my brain listens to your video more than it listens to me. My brain focuses on protecting me and is slow to stop if it perceives danger. For some reason I was thinking before this started about the danger of going down the stairs. The only pain I have is minimal and appears in my knees infrequently: mostly when I walk down or up a flight of stairs. Great video. Thanks Dan for your commitment to helping others.
My pleasure. There's a video on resuming activity. We can teach our brain that certain things like stairs don't have to hurt. ua-cam.com/video/mRowJmW4uk0/v-deo.html
This reminded me of a time when I was balanced on my window ledge trying to close an old Victorian sash window. Somehow the pane broke and fell in. The scream from me as I fell off the ledge as the glass hit my wrist was deafening. Family came running. I'm not someone who is squeamish. Anyhow the cut I was left with didn't equate with the scream. Lol it was all about fear of having to maybe go to hospital for stitches etc. I'm phobic about hospitals. Also a lot of family emotional stuff going on at the time. I didn't know about TMS then.
I have been following the TMS approach for quite the while to fix my long-covid. I knew it was TMS because the onset was caused by different mental and physical stressors becoming too much, because I have changing physical and mental symptoms and because I have moment I feel perfectly fine when I forget about it. But now, something just clicked for the first time: I am constantly afraid, I notice it now even on a subconscious level. If it is not my physical symptoms im afraid of, it is my mental symptoms, and if it is not any symptom its something else in my life. Becoming just aware of this reduced my symptoms immediately... I shall stay aware of this (subconsious) high alert state now because its litterary on for no rational purpose.
The human body has an amazing detoxification system. Fear will make things harder to recover. The perception of danger will make things harder to recover. What symptoms do you have? Have you done the assessments to determine if TMS/PDP is the cause of them? IsThisPDP.com
Hi Dan I’ve done the tests and it’s definitely TMS. The fact it moves around my body from my back to my hips, to my knees ankles feet wrists and fingers.
Wow "stop the micro managing" really hit. I'm definitely getting there. Believe what's left is due to ongoing emotional stuff that I m not speaking up about. I know that door will have to be opened so am using the knowledge to tell myself" you got this". Thank you for today's video. Really appreciate 🙏👍
The hot stove scenario fascinates me. I never looked at it as danger pain until I first heard you describe it. Even though we know scientifically that the brain determines all our physical pain, we are ‘conditioned’ to believe its source is purely physical. Just like the construction worker stepping on the nails! Screaming in pain, yet once his boots were taken off, the nails passed between his toes. This is all so fascinating Dan!
Safety therapy! Love it. I love Joe Dispenza's work but had to pull back from it a bit because I realized I was trying to force and outcome and was being hard on myself for not having some break through mystical experience.
Beautiful summary. I just love your style. You made me laugh…”if you’re reading a book, listening to a podcast, watching a UA-cam channel”…maybe not a direct quote from you, but it’s close. I wondered for a second how you knew what I was doing….lol 🤣 Yes, yes, yes I’ve overloaded my brain with so many voices and methods….of course my brain is in fear mode. I give myself permission starting TODAY to simply! 😊
Loved this! I took your quiz and got 48/50. So much of this resonated with what I’ve been feeling today to stop trying to fix and resolve these health issues. I’ve had severe pain, anxiety, depression, chronic health issues such as mold toxicity adrenal fatigue gut issues etc.. it’s a long list. Can all that still be tms with chronic illness along those lines and trauma? I had sort of dismissed it before feeling unsure, but I’m strongly feeling tonight this is exactly what is happening with me. Would love insight around that. Maybe it’s a combination, but I strongly resonate with this message of safety therapy and it also explains why no therapist etc has been able to help me on the levels needed I really have needed that work to know I am safe. This world has felt far from safe, but I want to trust in being safe and building on that each day. Living to resolve health issues with no focus on what I enjoy just doesn’t work. Thank you Dan 🌸🌻🙏 You messages really hit home with what I’ve felt in my heart for years although healing feels so complicated I’ve just felt deep down that isn’t true I’ve also had a ton of emotional issues, but I’m feeling it makes sense so much of this still is tms
Alisa: The great news is that this "safety therapy" will help with all of it. 48 of 50 is absolute certainty that YOUR symptoms are behaving like TMS / Perceived Danger Pain/Symptoms. That is fantastic news because it means that YOU can dramatically improve your life with this approach I suggest. Focus on safety. Notice it. Create it. When you do, all of the things you describe will get better. Including the mental health challenges you mentioned. This video gives many examples on how to create that safety in your life: ua-cam.com/video/5SsKnAgAvnY/v-deo.html
Another great video Dan and your videos are helping me so much x do you have advice for dealing with cfs fatigue when you have maybe done too much physically or been stressing and you feel that you have to rest to feel better x i still struggle with anxiety over this delayed fatigue and it feels like my sticking point!
I generally don't have different approaches to different types of symptoms. It's all coming from the same thing. Perceived danger. The solution is going to be safety whether you have CFS, back pain, migraines or whatever. When you say I've done too much physically, that assumes the body is the problem. TMS/PDP by definition means the body is not the problem. The brains perception of danger is the issue. ua-cam.com/video/tnU6KBAv5fg/v-deo.html That said, safety is the solution. This video covers many ways of teaching yourself you ARE safe. ua-cam.com/video/5SsKnAgAvnY/v-deo.html Hope this helps.
Thanks for this Dan .I have to learn I’m not in danger when these muscle spasms start .Breath and not stress with the numbness burning either .I’m just gonna sit and relax more wait for them to pass 😬I still can’t believe my brain is doing this to me .I’ve started using aTens machine when my back is playing up just to make me feel safe .I know it’s not gonna solve it but. It makes me feel safe .Thanks for all you do for everybody 👍👍
Hey Kerry - just a word of caution. The brain IS creating the pain. A tens unit will convince the brain it's a body problem and may delay recovery. You get to decide if a little temporary relief is worth slowing down recovery. Here are many examples of ways to feel safe without devices or a focus on your body. ua-cam.com/video/5SsKnAgAvnY/v-deo.html
Thanks Dan I know what you mean .It’s just sometimes away of me getting through.I will get there .We’ve all got this we can do it 💪💪Calm safety and more of me not caring .Thanks for all your amazing advices d support ❤️
Dan what if the symptom is severe fatigue and brain fog so bad you cant tend to normal cognitive things which need to be done ? How can you go on about your day feeling safe ? (Long covid)
If you have done the assessments and it's TMS/PDP, then it's all just perceived danger. You cannot really do much to affect your subconscious brain during sleep, but you can teach your brain what's going on while awake. It will eventually resolve the issues during sleep too. ua-cam.com/video/9mO8FtKsSJw/v-deo.html
Simplifying is such great advice - just what I needed to be reminded of - thanks Dan. Otherwise my brain loses it’s ability to stay calm and centred. Noticed recently that my body wants simple foods: steamed vegetables 🥕🥑🫑🫒🍠🥬🌽🧄🌶🍅🥦🧅🥔, clean water 💧, grilled meat 🥩 🍖 , free range eggs 🥚, salad 🥗 , small amounts of fruit 🍉🍌🍇🍏🍍🍑🫐🍓🍋🍐🍒🥝, nuts 🌰 … and it makes me feel better in that I have better clarity of thought, improved sleep etc. Plus a helluva lot less washing up to do. 😁 I was getting too caught up in chasing down (as you mentioned), more books, more information, more UA-cam speakers +++++! And it was doing my head in. Keeping it simple. I’m going to be watching and rewatching this video quite a few times I reckon. By the way: I’m looking forward to reading your book, Dan. No pressure. 😉😂
Today after little sleep I've struggled to get out but have managed a walk in the park. Have a sharp pain in groin that keeps trying to get my attention. Ah feck it lol
It’s fascia therapy used on the crane. Gentle movements of the therapist with her hands on your head,neck.. I had it done and it didn’t heal me but relaxes a lot! People with chronic headaches/ migraine can benefit from it.
Dan, this was AMAZING! Having the simple solution all in one video is such a great re-cap! Thank you! This video is the ONLY thing I'm doing today to fix myself! Going out and having fun and applying safety messages when I need them. So appreciate how you simply things. :)

I agree with your theory. When we look at pain as a warning, we can receive the warning and then turn it off.
Love is healing❤️🩹
Dan the Love you pour out to us all is lovely and healing. ❤️🙏🏻
It's absolutely my pleasure. Thank you.
Letting go of the ‘fixing myself’ attitude and physical therapy are the hardest to let go of! But I’m super motivated now, thank you 🙏
Beautiful blue skies here in London, freezing at 6c but the sun is shining

My approach is that there's nothing to fix. Once the brain gets that message, pains can leave and life gets so much easier.
I did the same thing! Then I stopped and decided just to be and live and be indifferent
