- Hey all!! I've noticed you have some questions and a few of them are VERY common.
I thought it best to answer those questions for you. Why did I move to Wales? What Visa am I on to be here? Do I have a paying Job while I'm here?

== About Me ==
I’m Ashley, a born and raised Washingtonian.
I love where I grew up but more recently my love for travel and a LDR has brought me across the pond to the UK. I am winging my way through this new life in a new country. It’s exciting and terrifying all at the same time but for the most part I am enjoying every little bit of the journey.
I am so excited to share in my adventures and hope you will fall in love with travel and the UK as much as I have.
Be sure to subscribe to my UA-cam channel to catch all that I’m up to.
Wales looks so lovely! Smart move not to divulge much about your private life. It’s an exciting new phase of your life and I wish you well.
I’m really happy for you! I followed you for years before the divorce, so I was witness to the devastation... and it’s good you’re keeping things to yourself. You deserve all the happiness life has to offer. Best of luck with your channel and with everything! 🥰
This was fantastic to see. I’m elated by your joy. I’m an American from Wyoming moving to Wales in two months to be with my fiancé. It’s nice to know someone else is making this change and is pursuing love in such a wonderful place. I truly hope everything works out for you and that you enjoy your stay in Wales.
I’m so pleased for you Ash . I’m English moved to the USA 36 years ago married a colonel in the USA Air Force. I’m from the north west of uk near the Lake District. I live in port orchard WA. Seen a young lady who's you tube is adventures and naps she is from Canada what she doesn't know about Visa isn't worth knowing look her up
Hi Ashley You look so happy! Good for you & I'm sure everyone that knows this channel and The Wayaway totally respect you choosing to keep your relationship private All the Best Jim, Surrey X
UK has an official "hostile environment" for immigration. I'd get some legal advice about making a single penny by filming here if I were you. Hope you continue having a good experience here in Cardiff :-)🏴
If she's on a tourist visa she doesn't have to declare her YT income which I'm sure she pays tax on in the USA
@@123tinhat123 hopefully you are spot on. But if it was me I'd be paranoid about my paperwork.
American citizens have to pay Usa taxes almost wherever they live and work in the world
I love that this video was just a casual conversation with you; like taking a calm walk with a good friend! Thanks for the chat ☺️ Good friends know to set boundaries and not pry, so I won't ask questions that aren't my business. I'll still cheer you on! On a side note, sheep are totally underrated haha So cute!
watching your old videos from the way away i'd say your better off without that guy!
So first of all, welcome. My (now) wife and I went through the same process as you. I'm from Wales, we met online, but at first I actually moved to Canada to be with her. After a few years, we moved back to Wales and well... I'm very confident that you're actually in my home town. I don't want to name it in case you're keeping it chill, but those are some very recognisable scenes!
My wife also fell in love with it, and originally she was on a 6 month visa as well, so perhaps I can help by telling you our story? Long story short, we realised that in order to get her "indefinite leave to remain" (ILR) aka settled status aka permanent residency that we were going to have to go through A LOT OF STEPS.
If things work out with your Welshman and you want to stay, then you need a spousal visa. You have to get married, that's step 1 (I hope this has changed by now, this was the case for us when we started the process about 9 years ago now). You will also need to have been in a relationship together for 2 years before you can even apply for that spousal visa, so that might complicate things for you in the short term. And you have to pay a non-refundable fee.
Once you're married and get that visa, you'll be allowed to work and earn money.
Unfortunately, the ILR is more complicated. There's a residency requirement (5 years in the UK when we applied) AND a financial requirement. You and your partner have to be earning at least £18,600 a year or they'll just flat out reject you. When we applied, I alone had to be earning that, so I'm glad that's changed.
On top of that, you'll need to pass a "Life in the UK" test, get fingerprints and all sorts of stuff like that done and pay an NHS fee.
At the end of all of that, you'll have to pay a final fee for the actual ILR and in total you'll be about £10,000 down, but you'll be able to live, work and come and go without any restrictions as long as you keep hold of your ILR card! We finally finished ours in 2018, it was such a relief. Best of luck to you if you choose to go down this path.
An important thing to note as well about the 2 year relationship minimum - you will have to show a LOT and I mean a LOT of proof of it. When my mom went through the process she & her husband had to provide basically two years of archived texts and images to prove their relationship
Hi Ashley, I respect your decision to keep your personal relationships private. I think you are very wise to do so. It’s lovely to hear from you though.
I've followed your life for years and feel very fond of you. I honestly could not be happier for you! And you are so right to keep your partner in the background. For now anyway. 😂

Get yourself an hiking stick, be through those muddy puddles in one - 'I love sheep'; yup, Wales is your home.
The UK requires, doctors, nurses, carers, IT staff etc. The carer or IT options may be a way in. It's the same for Brits going to the US of course. Getting a green card is difficult, especially for older people.
I can't believe I walked that exact same route a few weeks ago - it was muddy then, too. We were singing the Hippopotamus song! I have an off-camera boyfriend, too!
Hey Ash, the best Visa for you would be to get your guy to ask you that all important question, lol 😂Nice to see you enjoying yourself on our little Island. Take care 💗
Why Wales? Why not?! Croeso i gymru! (Welcome to Wales!). Sensible to keep your whereabouts and home/family/love life to yourself (unless you choose to share bits of it) as while we really do have dragons in Wales (you haven't seen one yet? Well, they are very shy!), there are trolls beyond the borders!
Is it possible to work in Wales remotely for a US company? Some countries allow you to work without a work visa if your income is from a different country. Just a thought.
Technically, no as you're still earning income while visiting. I think they make exceptions for things like monetized videos, and you could work on writing a novel, but you couldn't like work for customer service for an US company remotely while visiting. There are different visitor visas that would apply for someone coming over on a business trip, too.
Why not Walse indeed, it's a nice Country. Even better if you're in love with someone who's Welsh.
‘I freaking love sheep’ - you’ll fit right in!! 🤪
PAHAHA yes! It's not been hard for me. lol
Coming from the USA, you'd probably get a very sympathetic hearing if you wanted to claim political asylum in the UK ;-)
Ash. Be careful with income thru Patteon etc. The UK may still consider this as 'working' as the income has been raised via your stay in the UK. strictly speaking all UK residents hv to declare this sort of income as taxable. As a tourist that's exactly what you should do. Tourism. Just don't want you to be caught out. Good luck...
i guess it depends if they consider it active or passive income. People can still earn an income on a tourist visa (otherwise people who earn income from investments would be screwed)
I have to admit, i do think countries need to get clearer about their rules with tourist visas and people working now that more people can work remote. if im working remote for my australian company in germany - does that matter?
On your tourist visa, technically, you cannot enter into a relationship. Especially since that was your intention prior to entry. That would be considered visa fraud and the UK immigration can be brutal with things like that. But don’t worry, just don’t tell anyone….like on the internet…..
I read it as you can't get married or enter a registered civil relationship. neither are the same as dating or living together (though in Australia, living together is a defacto relationship so not sure if the UK is similar)
@@hez_am_i2448 If you enter the country, on a tourist visa, with the intent to establish a relationship, that is visa fraud and can result in up to a permanent ban. It is on the individual to PROVE that any relationship entered into whilst on a tourist visa was not pre-meditated. And theres no way in hell you can prove you didn’t intend to do something that you did in fact do. Evidence against the individual includes prior visits, and her public announcement of such relationship. I would advise to leave the country ASAP, and then apply for the correct visa. Immigration can and often do, FK peoples lives, for the rest of their lives. Also, any negative immigration record obtained in the UK, is shared on IBIS, which will get you banned from many other countries in the world. US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand…… Been there, done that…..
Immigration do not give you the benefit of the doubt. They have quotas to make. Low hanging fruit get screwed over.
You are talking nonsense david
Fair play to you on multiple counts but you really seem to fit into Welsh life. Wales is superb - I live not far from the border but always feel at home the other side of it. Wales and Scotland contain the remaining genuine wilderness in the UK
Absolutely love how you addressed this. Thank you Ash! Wishing you all the best! Thank you for showing us around!
You are such a sweet beautiful person inside and out and I am so happy for you! Very smart and good thing not involving the internet in this relationship.
Heck it looks so amazing there I would grab a book and sit in that field and watch the sheep. You deserve to be happy so don't listen to anything negative from anyone! 🌻🙈🙉🙊 Have a great week and God bless ya!
We totally understand why you want to keep your relationship private.
I want to become a patreon member it says per creation does that mean everyone you have done or from this point, not sure I could give to every creation but I see it says you can just pay like 2 creations a month
That looks like the beach at Llantwit Major where I spent many a happy day as a youngster
So happy to see you're doing well Ash!! Sending our best from NYC.
Hi Ashley
Love your videos. You are a breath of fresh air. Your videos are so full of life. Hope you can extend your stay indefinitely. Our country needs people like you. ❤️❤️❤️
I'm and Aussie who also lives in South Wales and have been here since September 2016. I came on a Tier 5 Visa and currently on a Spouse Visa (5 year route). Like you I fell in a love with a Welshman soon after arriving in Cardiff and haven't left. I haven't lived in Cardiff since the beginning of 2018 and now live near Pontypridd. I was going to recommend the Tier 5 Visa but as your over 30 there are not many options left for you when wanting to stay longer in the UK. I would say that looking at getting married or becoming a student are probably your best options. I don't know your job skill set so looking at getting sponsored may also be a option.
Hey Ashley, good to see you today! I miss you so much, how is anything in UK? I hope you're having a great time exploring and staying safe out there.
It's called "Hiraeth". Wales leaves a small part in your heart. Cymru am byth!
"Girl gone London" is a good channel about an American living in the UK. She's been here 10 years, gone through multiple different visas and has just gotten her UK citizenship.
I would highly recommend Evan Edinger's channel too as he has also talked a lot about visas and has become a UK citizen (he's also a lovely bloke :) )
I am not surprised you love Wales it is beautiful, I was shocked though at how old you are I am in shock, you do not look it
Ahaha well, THANK YOU. I’ll take it!
Have you seen Adventures and Naps video about moving to the UK? It might be interesting for you, Ash.
where do you buy Harvey's?
Am from wales Swansea south wales
Have a look at Evan Edinger's UA-cam channel and maybe even try to get in touch with him. He's an American UA-camr living in the UK. I'm not sure what Visa he is on though, so maybe a look through his videos will get you an answer.
There is a freelancer visa but I think you need 50k in the bank which is not feasible 😅 You can look into a partner visa as well, but I think you have to prove that you have lived together for at least 6 months (outside of the UK I think... Not sure though.) And then there is marriage, but that would obviously need to be something you and the boyfriend would have to discuss.
Evan is a Brit now. He showed us all his citizenship ceremony,it was brilliant. He's no longer a Yankee,he's a true Brit! But I would think he could give really good advice.
I'm sorry to say that the law is changed and marrying a Brit does not give you the right to live here by virtue of that. There are many couples living apart around the world due to that.
All the best with your new relationship. I understand you don’t want to make your relationship public but at some point we will need to see your partner if only to congratulate you both. Hopefully you will be able to get a work visa and be able to live here for as long as you want. As for now just enjoy the experience.
I have always been a champion for your happiness! When I see that you are producing consistent videos then I will be happy to become a patron. I think it would be lovely to see you open up your whole life to us when you are comfortable. It's not the same when you are hiding what makes you happy. I understand you want to protect your relationship.
Thanks Ashley. That clears up many things. I can well appreciate you wanting a measure of privacy.
Have you looked into the GLOBAL TALENT VISA?
Perhaps you could apply as an artist / entrepreneur with the work you did during "The Way Away"
It would be great to hear your insights exploring this.
An American I think who's done it is "Paige Mariah". She has a UA-cam channel and is currently in London. Maybe you could reach out to her for a chat. Her school experience potentially helped but I've heard other people mention different ways outside school that was helpful especially unique work experiences which I think you have with your travel documenting.
Welcome to Wales, just found your channel I hope it all works for you. Its smart not to talk about your private life as some people will use it again you. I wish you well
I love wales, I love you and I love America x
This can be a hard concept for a hard-driving female....
Basic principle: the Male pursues....an invite is insufficient evidence of a male's intentions. In fact, the male may recoil and pull back, in the face of an overeager female.
Welcome to Wales
You could either get a student visa, we have a shortage of nurses and paramedics atm or you can work for an American firm without a visa.
Of course we will respect your privacy with your relationship ❤️ it was just kind of abrupt with your move and not much of a bridge as to why which is why I asked. Enjoy your time together 🥰
Welcome to Wales! Lovely to see you enjoying this beautiful country us locals take for granted. Look forward to more videos 😊
We’re in the same town!! I hope you enjoy it here :)
Ash, I hope you're waterproof! 😂😂...well done and good luck in the future.
My husband is originally from Peru and moved to the UK exactly 20 years ago, He absolutely fell in love with Wales and its his dream to move there one day. I have to agree with him. Wales is stunning - so maybe one day? Good luck with everything.
PS my son wants to move to the States 😊😊
It’s good to see you being so courageous in following a dream and welcome to Wales.
I knew it!! Congratulations
You should definitely visit the Brecon Beacons whilst you’re in wales and climb pen-y-fan
Welcome to the UK Ash... ive been to Wales, North and south a number of times.... you are in a beautiful place.
Hiya! If you like sheep, you will love the lambs when they first enter the fields.I predict you will get a bit overexcited when you see their cuteness! Pob lwc Ashley.
Re: visas...check out you tube channel...Adventures and Naps...Alanna is Canadian and has lots of videos concerning UK visas.
Canada is part of the Commonwealth, so that's a lot different concerning visas. US citizens have a really had time working in the UK unless they are sponsored by an employer.
@@skkeech ...If you watch Alanna's videos from over the years she has had lots of problems, being part of the Commonwealth really doesn't give much advantage these days, her experiences could be useful to Ash.
Alanna makes clear in a recent video that commonwealth is of no help
I have been wanting to visit Wales for a few years. As a senior on a fixed income i wanted to know if i could afford it. I've been studying the language, can pronounce n sing songs and speaking but understanding others speak not so good. You are living my dream. Good luck to you.
Well, you have ended up living in various places in the UK, in France...how about trying to make a life for yourself in the USA?
Or, as the saying has it, "East is East and West is West but Home is Best!" You are NOT meant for the International Life.
Defacto visa? Considering you are in a relationship and the reason you came to Wales. Getting sponsorship from company, including US company working remotely ,or person?
"Adventures and Naps" would be good for you to check out as Allana has been through it all and has made many videos on getting here... and staying here. Good luck!
Ash look into going back to school and become a nurse which is needed
Wales is magical. It has dragons!
SO TRUE!!! ❤️❤️❤️
you're where i wanna be right now (: i fell in love with an amazing Welsh man online. i really want to move there with him but i am too young right now (i'm above the age of 18 but i just want/need more experience with the world). i'd love to spend 6 months with him
Where in wales u move to I'm from merthyr south wales
I think she is in Llantwit Major, as she got on the train there a few weeks ago
I love that coastline, especially Monk Nash (the Welsh jurassic coast), only an hour down the road from me!! Even did a video down that way!! You chose a great place to live.
I’ve always wanted to move to England but, the visa problem is an issue…As you said it’s difficult, unless a company sponsors you or you legitimately marry someone from there. I think also if you invest half a million dollars:))
Donating half a million dollars to Boris and his chums would open doors for you but the days when you could just marry a Brit and then live here are long gone. There are many couples who are married but living separate as they cannot fulfill the legal requirements which strangely are tougher than for us native born Brits. Someone like Ashley if she married a Brit would have to prove she had earning potential of quite a high level or her husband would have to prove he had a huge sum of money to keep her so she wouldn't be calling on UK state money. My neighbour at our old house married a Ukranian woman and he had to pay out thousands of pounds to satisfy all the legal requirements - then she left him.
You don't need a tourism visa as an American to stay in the UK for 6 months. By default that's how long you're allowed to stay as an American, you don't any stamp or visa for that.
Amazing Adventurous Ash! I have been watching you vlogs for a long time and am so delighted that you have continued your " seize the day", joy of life! Welcome to the UK! This is a new chapter in your life and may you do it in your own style. May all happiness be yours!
It's nice to see an American choose Wales over england for once 🙂
Hi Ash, you might find some of the videos from Evan Edinger's channel helpful. He is from New Jersey and has been living in the UK for many years, even got the UK citizenship last year. His older videos are probably more relevant to your current situation.
I understand I respect your feelings and your significant other can’t wait to see more of Wales
Nice video Ashley. I will subscribe and see how your adventure goes.
Wales is so beautiful.
I live in Devon, also beautiful.
Blessings on your new life in the UK!
I hope you all the best for the future I'm english but I love wales so mutch history culture and varied scenery have a great time
My day is brightened as from now.
Good to see you adapting to life in God's own country!
I would go speak to a lawyer or solicitor (I have no idea if those are the same thing) about getting a longer term visa. When my husband moved to the US from Brazil he spoke to a lawyer and they helped him get a long term work visa. He got a free consultation. I don’t know if they do that in Wales, but I imagine the fee would be reasonable.
Ah you are in the town I grew up in.... I long to move back
It's LM isn't it? I don't want to write it in case she's keeping it quiet.
@@BenMcManus yes. I didn't mention it for the same reason. Don't want to dox her.
Ah yeah I knew it. I'm from there as well. When were you last there? I live in Cardiff now, but basically except for shop fronts changing and some new housing developments, it hasn't changed at all.
@@BenMcManus I left there in 1988 for university, and never lived there again. I live in London now. I have been back many times as I have relatives near by.
Lovely video thanks for sharing 👍 🥰
I was on a business trip a few years ago in Wales. It is beautiful.
Hello hope you're settled in, and. Happy and well bless you.
So when the visa runs out you have to leave🤣 can’t you get a permanent one to stay forever
Forwarding this link to the Welsh tourist board. Seriously they need to be sponsoring you or at least linking to you to get your hits up!. Best advert for Wales since Catherine Zeta Jones!
Yes,the Welsh Tourist Board should be embracing Ashley with open arms, that smile that personality, best advert for Wales in a long time,
@@janebaker966 seems that they are called Visit Wales now and they’ve been brought up to speed!.
Good for you. And good thinking for keeping it private until you’ll be ready to share it.
Have you been to the Mueseum of Life at St Fagins outskirts of Cardiff
Really enjoy your videos Ash. I hope your dreams come true with your boyfriend. However I’ve always been uncomfortable watching people basically scrounge money so they can live a better life having there travels and expenses paid for. These are things you should’ve thought about before you came to the UK and funded yourself. That’s what most people have to do.
Sorry, but I think you are out of touch. The UA-cam videos are more or less a job. There are UA-camrs making millions. You are saying that Dish and cable company's are begging for money just because they show some interesting videos. Same thing here . I am a baby boomer, but I can see things evolving. Go with the flow. Wing it with Ashley.
@@TD-ce5ru don’t agree and I don’t like others channels doing the same with similar life choices. Cable companies offer far far more than this one person channel and have staff to pay who work for them so that’s not even a good example. To ask others to fund your lifestyle to travel and have fun when you could plan and save for this is for me not the way. My voice won’t mean anything so I’m sure it won’t matter.
Welsh Lad, Nobody is forcing you to watch or contribute. A huge amount of work goes into these videos behind the scenes and they are enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people.
Some You Tubers have Camera men, editors, entourage, content writers, and merchandise coordinators. If you want to get mad, just go watch some of those prank UA-camrs. They are making more money being disrespectful and rude than they know what to do with it.
@@TD-ce5ru who’s mad? I’m not mad. I made a comment of what I think about Ash/channels of this size asking for donations. I doubt Ash has any of the above you’ve mentioned. She’s asking for people to pay for her lifestyle whilst travelling around Wales 🏴 with her new boyfriend. As for watching Prank You Tubers……..I really don’t get your point as where do you get I’d like that type of vlog?
Good to see you… although… you are looking a bit sheepish….. 😂
Great to see you looking so happy in Wales. Here's hoping you manage to tick off many of the recommendations you've received 🤞
I spent part of my preteen/teen years in Wales so I know it is a lovely place. I've been here since the Way Away days, and I don't blame you for wanting to keep your private life away from UA-cam. I'm slowly catching up with your videos here Ash :)
Hi Ash. I wish you and your guy the best of luck. You look so happy. Looking forward to seeing more vlogs. One question? Are you learning Welsh? Enjoy this next chapter.
Welcome to Wales. Glad you are enjoying it here 🙂
Wellies, get some muck boots while you are here.
Thanks for answering the Q's Ash :) I hope it wasn't too much of a burden. The beginning of this you were like, "ok let's get them over with " lol. Anyway that is perfectly understandable you are keeping matters of your special someone on the down low . The walk was lovely :)
Obtaining a longer stay/working UK Visa is an absolute minefield and expensive, with the NHS surcharge added on. Just a shame you are not a truck driver as they are desperately needed at this time and working visas have been fast tracked for them.
Have you thought about a UA-cam Membership page?
Tony. I AM a US truck driver and thinking about moving to the UK. I actually just got home yesterday from London.
