I think its nice shave prefer Michael. (Joking) My favourite razor is the Merkur Progress. It is very rare I cut my self with it. I do the first pass on 2.5 , then the second on 2.0. Which is good as I'm on warfarin (Blood thinner). My doctor advised me to use an electric, I thought wash your month out with soap. I have been wet shaving for about 4 years now. Wouldn't change it, though it can be a challenge to stop the blood if I catch myself with a sharp blade, good old steptic stick. Great shave keep on making the videos, helps me through these strange days of this pandemic.

I just broke out my Semogue 830 for the whole month of November. I hadn't used a boar brush in a long time. I gotta say, it feels good on the face when lathering.
I cling to that old technology like 50's razors, tube amplification and guitars.
Can't beat an old tweed Fender tube amp 👍
I'd like to see you shave with some classic cartdridge razors. Do you happen to own some? I still enjoy shaving with my first Gillette Sensor razor from 1992. It's almost 30 years old. Proper vintage.

Took a lot more than a few shaves for me 😁. I gave up on it multiple times over the course of a year and a half but I finally got it figured out 🕺🏻. I have a very thick beard that grows fast and sensitive skin 😤

I just received a second hand progress in the mail today. When I give it a go I'll give your method a try. Very nice razor. How do you compare to Futur? "The more shaves you have, the more weepers you get"? in the search of the perfect BB shave.
I didn't enjoy the Merkur Futur. I found it very harsh even on the lower settings. 👍
Hello Kevy, I'm a big fan of the Merkur Futur. I know it's aggressive on the higher settings, but it's butter on 1 setting and efficient. People think that if you have an adjustable you are more of a man if you shave on the high settings. NOT TRUE! I'm a daily shaver and have soft facial hair, so 1 is perfect. I have a rule with adjustables, always start at 1. Cheers👍

Gorgeous !!! The Merkur is an incredible piece, the decoration in the lower part of the handle gives it a lot of class and style, the good boar brush in fact I prefer them more.
Good afternoon Kevy! It is my opinion that this new microphone is much better. I think Ian still offers the Digress...I looked at one in the case during one of my visits to the shop. Boar brushes seem more traditional nowadays, yet I learned during barber college that the traditional brushes were horse hair and badger. The horse hair fell out of favor during WWI due to anthrax transmission to soldiers with infected brushes. I guess back then they didn't disinfect the horse hair. That is some awesome audio feedback from the Digress razor. I must be a good design if it has been around for 65 years without much change. Lately, I have been having troubles getting an uniform shave...not sure the why...but it is annoying. Perhaps my whiskers are getting more wiry. Over the past month I have combed the Junk stores and Antique Malls in my area. I have found a bunch of vintage shaving soaps, mostly Williams. My last acquisition was from Ebay...Currier and Ives shaving bowl...full of virgin Williams shaving soap! I used it a few times and the lather smells of old cedar wood (from the bowl no doubt). The post shave feel is very good...leaves the face soft and smooth. Finally, I have acquired 80 vintage PolSilver blades, pre-1982, made in Poland. We will see how those perform. Maybe I can send a couple your way for your enjoyment...if they are any good. Take care Kevy! Please be safe.

Crikey, that razor sounds real scary as it cuts! I'm lucky enough to have a 2015 Digress, the brass knob is just exquisite. Never knew they redesigned the 'arrow' the following year, interesting bit of info. I grew a beard for lockdown duration, but now as of this week, back shaving - hence, I need to be taught all over again LOL

Usually 3 times then replace it with a new one. 👍

I don't know about the Sony cameras but when their TV's were still made in Japan, they lasted for decades.
Homelike START seems to have large blade gap and less blade exposure. Above the Tie seems to have small blade gap and lot of blade exposure. I was surprised how "safe" and little blade feel was on the START .90. Can you go either design for a mild but efficient shave?

I have always wanted to see the Digress in action. This is what makes today's episode well worth the wait. The re-calibration, as well as the machined brass adjustment knob lift this far and above the progress. You really struck gold with this find. As usual, you have my envy. Mrs Kevy is getting better and better with the clipper. She needs to open a barber shoppe. Today's feedback was your favorite "scraping toast" type of character. As far as the Merkur Progress goes, I have the long handle and the short handle. Both are not calibrated properly. The closed setting for one is at 5 and the other is at 2. I've watched YT videos on recalibrating and it involves covering the handle with cardboard and using 2 pairs of pliers. I also feel the blade exposure on both razors I have is very slightly off from one side to the other. I like the Digress handle more than the plastic handle. Im not sure why they stopped transforming the Progress into the Digress, Mergress etc. It seems to have been a popular razor. Kevy 😀
@@kevyshaves4109 Maybe the calibration started failing on those, too? From my experience, you can't compare the quality control of Merkur to that of the vintage Gillette razors, which have withstood the test of time. I'd like to look at a sample of about 50 Merkur Progress razors, looking down at the top after the blade is loaded. I'm guessing that the majority will have blade exposure problems.
@@kevyshaves4109 Another reason could be that as DE shaving started taking off again a few years ago, so many other razors started being released and there's just so much money to go around.
The Progress pre-dates the fatboy, and is my favorite adjustable, the audio is great Kevy:)

I have to tell that I am not satisfied with the lather on the second-third pass. Do you remember that lather from Kaizen? Yes, the one that you were putting the brush into the bath tub to hydrate the soap.
Yes! The make up of this formula doesn't produce that sort of lather. Still, its very good. Kevy 👍😀

Heard that before does the progress is older. But i have to say, hard for a German, the Americans made their razor more filigran and much longer lasting. There are no vintage Progresses out there...
