I need your help! My 15 week old fire ant colony (The Phoenix Empire) decided to do something pretty unexpected this week. After some investigation, I realized the ant colony needed something from us, which we deliberate on in this episode. Hope you guys can help the ants and I out with your valuable input. My vote is to add a hybrid nest but with some digging medium. Maybe add different material to every chamber in the hybrid nest? And if you want to go crazy, color code the stuff in each chamber with food coloring so we can see better if the ants carry the stuff around or use certain kinds of materials in specific places. Upvote for Antscanada to see if interested.

Go make a huge terrarium, N then connect With a tubes to all your ant colony it's like a battlefield to all your colony.. if a colony is losing and getting invaded... Block the tube. If the ants recover, connect the tubes again

Joking aside, the ants are growing at such a rate and with that much brood they're definitely gonna be growing so much more- why not just go ahead and put them in the terrarium? Unless you're doing your best to keep em in places where we can still fully observe them, which is of course understandable. It's much easier to see the ants in these setups than in the naturalistic environment! But you know, it's a thought to keep in mind!
I hope they don't grow to fast. I really don't want him to have to set the ants back to the wild.

AntsCanada I would highly recommend not naming it Hell's Kitchen. They go after people and you get enough views to be seen. You will probably be fine just calling it that but there was a channel taken down for calling something the Olympics. Just be extremely cautious with using that name. Probably be fine but the name is copy righted and calling something that could get you in trouble.
Edit: Base on what people said, You are probably good if you dont have it in the thumbnail/title but there may be a risk. However, Hell's kitchen has been known to go after people. They are a youtube channel and a major popular show. I am not a lawyer but I have seen/known channels taken down or forced to remove those episodes, for using names like the olympics which is another copyrighted name. Just want to put the warning out have it known that there may be a risk having it in (especially if it is in the subtitles/captions)
Edit 2: Just to be clear since my wording may have been not clear. I DO NOT think antscanda will be in legal trouble. I do think he COULD be in youtube trouble. People been getting false copyright strikes that UA-cam ADMITTED was happening even more so now with all thats going on (would give exemples of this but again youtube been strict on this and im worry that this message would be taken down if i use one of the key words). I do feel that another tower is best for this particular colony due to their behavior in the existing home. I also, think that having them utilize the cork tube would be an interesting experiment to see their behavior compared to the typical choices we would make ( tower etc.) Also, we knew bc the basil in the out world is growing bigger than your basil in your window garden. I think with such a prolific colony lets give the ants the choice by offering them both! They will decide what they want to do with a new tower and hybrid nest, and with their growing population they are bound to need an additional nest extension anyways. I wonder which nest they would choose to move into first?
The basil plants that have the spring tails and soil creatures have grown taller then the ones in the garden, even though they were planted at the same time, that's how you know that they're benefiting from the spring tails and soil creatures! :D

You knew that the presence of soil creatures and springtails were helping the basil because you were also growing a separate basil garden that did not have any springtails or soil creatures in it, I'm assuming as a control.
You should give them a hybrid nest, but since they are growing so quickly, I would give them a medium hybrid nest to aid in their expansion. A mini hybrid nest may need to be replaced/ expanded upon sooner than a larger nest.

I'm sure it's cause they like nesting in the dark, which the red film simulates for the ants. The light is okay for hunting though.
The ants prefer to nest in dark places and they also can't see the colour red (colour blind) so it's a perfect colour to use to simulate deep in the ground
What Firock means is: Why not using the Red Film (or a red Lid-cover) for the Hybrid nest too? Then we can watch them, without removing the Lid.

I have a question about the old fire ant colony tank, why doesn’t AntsCanada just start the new fire ants into the old tank after the queen starts producing more and more ants. I feel like that would make more sense instead of upgrading their outworlds with more space.

Answer for AC question of the week Answer:
This is because we do not see the plants suffer from nutrient deficiency and stop growing. This is because springtail manure contains plant nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Springtail and other soil creatures faeces also encourage soil microbial activity which promotes the soil's trace mineral supply. Because of all of these plants should display green leaves with bright, even colour which we can clearly see in the basil leaves. So we know that the basil plants were benefiting from the soil creatures and springtails.
Answer to the question: The basil benefits from the Springtails and soil creatures through the poop from these creatures fertilizing the soil in which the basil grows. This has resulted in the basil growing taller and with a brighter shade of green with no yellowing, at least in comparison to your other basil garden with no ants fueling the soil creatures.
Basil plants question: We know that the basil plants benefit from the springtails because the basil plants in the hunting grounds where planted at the same time as the basil plants in the garden. The plants in the garden are a lot smaller than the basil plants in the hunting grounds. So you can conclude that plants benefit from the nutrients the springtails give them.

You should introduce aphids into your terrarium, so the ants can herd them around and drink their honeydew they produce. It'd be quite interesting. It's not hard to find aphids. Itll be bad for the plants, so I'd maybe do it in another terrarium you don't treasure, but it'd be awesome content?
