As Brits you might appreciate knowing that the Royal Navy had similar concerns about the availability of ships timbers. In the 1600’s England introduced the “ Broad Arrow Policy” which set aside suitable tracts of Timber for building naval vessels. As the empire expanded to Australia and Canada, they too set up “ Naval Forest Reserves” under the act. Here on the west coast of Canada the reserves targeted Douglas-fir and White pine stands suitable for spars and masts ( Oak not having the form for those uses). Some “Naval Reserves” still exist, but others were “repurposed” or rolled into regional, provincial or National Parks.
I worked at the Crane base for 30+ years ( retired in 2006) Constitution Grove was a favorite place to have lunch - the base covers approximately 100 square miles in total and provides a great deal more than white oaks in support of the US Navy.
Born & raised in Indiana. Yes good ole White Oak countryside, which is only one of many spectacular attractions of this State including the Indianapolis 500 Motor Speedway, Indianapolis Colts Football Stadium, home of former VP Dan Quayle & Mike Pence, Studebaker National Museum, Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, Amish horse & buggys, Wabash & Whitewater Rivers, Plus the famous Indy 500 song "Back home again in Indiana". Beautiful State to call home. 😊❤
I wish the video would have touched upon just how important and badass the USS Constitution is. She's the world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat and defeated five British warships in the war of 1812.

I have been to Crane, for schools while in the Navy
Don't forget the Cutty Sark.
Sounds like White Oak is worth cultivating aside from repairing the USS Constitution.
I don't question anything about the U.S. Navy
