I really wish they'd do higher level campaigns with several new and old npcs, romances, that take part after the main campaign and are important and compelling spinoffs of the main storyline, not just a bunch of puzzles and disconnected stories like the first DLC.

As much time as I have spent playing WotR I give two massive thumbs up for Owlcat continuing the story. I have played WotR hundreds of hours (Steam says close to 2,000 hours but I know the vast majority of that is AFK or pausing to do X and then falling asleep.) and have only created a character in Kingmaker. I grew up on BG I & II, Windy Dale (as me and my friends called it) and Planescape: Torment during my teens and early adult years. I didn't think they still made games this good but then I stumbled upon Divinity 2, which got me to download BG 3, which in turn, having watched so many videos, had to check out Kingmaker but then the much bigger and, more importantly, you can be a lich so I ended up owning both and playing WotR first. So I'm excited I still have an entire Kingmaker to discover.
    May your growth be exponential.

It absolutely could be personal preference, but I have found Kingmaker rather dull in its characterization and role-playing options, especially compared to WotR, which is better in every conceivable regard. The party members are dime-a-dozen either personality- or mechanic-wise and most of their personal quests -albeit interesting- stick out of the main narrative too much. Do not even get me start on the setting: woods and caves - riveting stuff.

As someone who has run the adventure path multiple times (including covering it to 5e), Owlcat has already substantially altered the original adventure path (for the better!). If their agreement with Paizo gives them the leeway to do what they've already done, then it has a lot of room for them to adapt more content. There are a significant number of hooks and parts of the AP that they could expand on to do more. Plus they've shown they can actually improve on the source material so I don't think the IP is going to be the limiting factor. More content is all going to come down to sales.

They actually have the rights for i thing 4 to 6 games, plus all the dls.

i've yet to jump into this but it sounds pretty fun, the low-level parts of these games before your party's super well-defined and powerful always end up being my favorite anyway
milestone xp sounds like a wonderful idea too, there was already a hint of milestone progression in the base-game with mythic paths but i'm partial to milestones over xp whenever i see it because it allows for better roleplay than just 'kill everything for optimal xp gains'

I feel conflicted - on the one hand I really enjoy how true to its vision this series appears to be, but on the other, I find myself bouncing off of the character build options in the Pathfinder games. I feel genuinely overwhelmed when it comes to that aspect. Eventually I'll really have to dig in and work my way through a couple guides or something...

The way you're describing this DLC sounds incredible. Honestly, I'd rather play this than the main campaign. I don't own the game yet, but that's because I want a more Larian-style game than another classic Bioware / Black Isle game I played over 20 years ago.
I think turn-based would benefit from this mode the way you describe it, and that makes the game more tactical to me. I don't like playing RTSs anymore as I've aged up.

  • @SageofStars

This was a neat idea, and while I prefer easier, I do like that it forced me out of my comfort zone near the end, as the first two times you have the option to get around something, the difficulty at minimum means that you CAN win with minimal prep time. But that last boss just before the Heart? No, you need to do as much as possible, and really take full advantage of the forced rest point just beforehand to give you as many bonuses as possible.
I will say, I'm one of those who would have liked more stuff from the DLC to show up, as it is, you get cameos from anyone who survives in the Heart just before the attack, and afterwards you get a special rod that can be found nowhere else in the game. Those are good, but not great, and worst of all, that ending is referenced by Ira, but only vaguely, and mostly in a 'come back later to deal with this problem' sort of thing.
Of course, as a story in and of itself, I like it. The unique way it does stats, taking away a few points so you can't grow quite as strong, and limiting the levels makes sense...again I played on easy, and while the first time through I did the defaults, after that I picked 4 classes for my pc and randos that gave Animal Companions, which gave not only more carrying capacity, but also isn't as reliant on equipment, creating a block of four ranged combatants(1 magic, 3 ranged), and mostly letting the other two do whatever they wanted. Fun times.

I hope they go to Milestone Exp. As most DMs will tell you, it's just a much easier way to handle tabletop rpgs (and crpgs). It encourages larger goals, get to the Tavern, save the King, find the murderer, etc etc. I also prefer it when I DM. While I am all for hard challenges and rewards, I always think gear serves a better purpose than exp. Let Exp remain for major accomplishments.

This is basically the Wrath equivalent of Varnhold's Lot. Unfortunately I've never gotten close to finishing Wrath since my favorite playstyle is a bit lackluster. Heavy Armor has lower AC and a bunch of other issues and unlike Kingmaker the bonus abilities just aren't enough to make up for the benefits from dropping a few mythic or multiclass choices. Vek has made a mod that among other things adds abilities to boost heavy armor but I just don't want to play a mod.

Well, that was fast! But not unexpected since it's you! I do wonder about those next dlcs, are they going to be separate playthroughs like those released so far? Having an animal companion helps immensely in the first two chapters, since the animal doesn't need gear to be useful, it can also act as your frontliner. I went mad dog barb with a bear companion and didn't have any trouble (played on normal).

Having just completed the DLC on unfair, I felt that the balancing in the DLC was *miles* better than the main campaign. It was completely doable with a sane amount of buffs, while still feeling challenging. I really wish the difficulty curve would be ported to the main campaign, e.g. an easier start and a harder end. It really feels like the main campaign is balanced around 'ok, so you're going to have mythic powers', which you don't have until like L7+, making the first 7 levels kind of torture.

Does the army management still suck? I loved the first one UNTIL I became a Baron and then I hated the management stuff so much it ruined the game for me, same with WOTR. It's a shame because I love everything else about the game but those shitty army bits are total dealbreakers for me.

Since when you cant tell anything about companions? You spoiled all companions in beta before game released for base game. We just want to know their class, alignment, and general backstory

Making game hard on purpose sounds a bad idea for dlc

I am disappointed that instead of adding more quests and other content to Act 5 and Ending they do this.

They said they were gonna revamp the act 5 with the Enhanced Edition, adding more meat to it apparently

This was an awful, awful slog. Terrible combat AI and bad encounter design is largely covered by the power of builds in the main game and not so bad by mid levels since you can ressurect people and cure most afflictions fairly easily.
This campaign is a good idea, poorly executed and frankly inappropriate for a CRPG with no DM.

It sucks and I hate it. Playing on core, the gritty and realistic aspects are ruined by the fact that every enemy has some bullshit like poison attacks that ruin your characters chance of survival by destroying their strength and dexterity or damage resistance, which is subtractive and often reduces your damage to 0 because of your shitty weapons

Disappointing. Even the voiceless cinematic at the beginning the of the game is awkward and makes the content seem unfinished. Seriously, if these were the DLC content they are releasing for the game, people aren't going to buy season pass 2.
