my Aunt Lula just passed away, she was 98. She was born on the Hopi reservation in Arizona. After I heard the news I sat down and found this. Thank you.
So very sorry for your loss. Your Aunt Lula will be coming in every now and again to make sure you make the good decisions and know the constant love she has for you.
You know you were meant to find this when you needed it. Pure Love. It will always surround you. Your aunt will always be in your heart and watch over you and guide you.
My father very unexpectedly died earlier this year (January 15). Because he is a Vietnam veteran, I am honoring him by having him buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He sacrificed his life for a country that spit on him when he returned. He lost his first wife over his service. He came home and his father was gravely ill then died not soon afterwards. My father bore the brunt of many things because that is what men of his generation did - silently, without compliant, getting up every day just to do it all over again. i had been struggling to find a piece of music to honor him when we do the internment (there is a long wait). However, now that I have heard this piece, I know it is perfect. His family is from Alabama, and he spoke fondly of his times there. I don't think he would have been ready to be called home had it not been for the pandemic. I will never know what peace there may have been between us, because the wounds of his PTSD are ones I carry. But I know there are three grandchildren who miss him so, and a long line of family and friends who do as well.
I know im randomly asking but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
I heard this song a while back, and let my girl and my mom know that I would want this to be played and my service if I passed. Tonight I honor my Dad with this same song... I love you, and I thank you. 🤟😞💔
The most moving and touching song about death I've ever listened to. It would be wonderful if it were true that the friends you lost would call you home
My G-d her voice is amazing!! I’m putting Rhiannon in my top ten of my favorite voices. So she’s now up there with Audra McDonald and Barbra Streisand two singers that have moved me to tears at times when I listen to them.
Absolutely and hauntingly beautiful. Love the song, love your interpretation, the voice and the deceptively simple accompaniment, love the cinematography and the symbolism behind it. Thank you, everyone involved in putting this gem together.
This is a high point in modern music. True emotion in every note and word. If we could all live like this song feels, I’m not sure if we’d all be walking around smiling or crying 😂
I've just returned from the scattering of my freinds ashes on the beutifull island of Sherkin off the west coast of Ireland and this song seems it was written especially for him rest in peace Vincent O Sullivan aka vincy rock there calling you home your reunited now with your beloved mam and dad and your best friend Micheal John o Leary may there souls and all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in heavenly peace amen 🙏💓🌹
This reminds me of a few Celtic Scottish or Irish songs and much more. My angel bride Brenda would have hugely loved this. Your music is astounding as it always has been since I found you on Fresh Air with Terri Gross when I lived in Pinetop/Lakeside AZ in the mountains before my angel bride became and angel. Now in Tucson since 2015.
Singing about the ghost of death, a song that represents a universal reality to everything that posses life, what a soulful way to remind us of our ultimate destination through such a haunting expression
As I listen to Rhiannon Giddens, I peacefully recall witnessing the transition of life to death... amongst many people whom I know, who died... some expected, some unexpected. ~ I also feel, oh so deeply... the love I have for each and every human whom I do not know, for ALL people... who are transitioning from life to death at this moment. ~ This song goes deep, to an ancestral human core, a vibration of love... and of the definitive communication of dying person's acceptance of death. ~ I have seen Rhiannon Giddens in person. Through her original tunes and renditions of others, Rhiannon personifies the human experience of ancestors, and yet lives in-the-moment of today... and she expresses it through music, the unequivocal international language. ~ I love her and I love you. And I feel loved. Though we are in deep sadness at times, as our world continues with tribulations, and people dying sooner than others, and some expected and some unexpected... here is an action request: please share music that is meaningful to you. ~ It is likely that someone you do not know will hear it... and may be comforted to know that there is another human in the world, who shares another common thread with them. ~ I share this song with you, for it feels somber, yet peacefully clear, that transition is coming... we just don't know exactly when. When it does, let it proceed like a stream flowing gently downhill. Until then, may peace be with us, in remembrance of our humans who have passed, and may we honor all humans who live today. We all share so many common threads. 🌎 ~ Thank you Rhiannon, for your version of this tune. It welcomed me to vulnerable and to reflect this morning, and to continue my hope for all peoples' experiences to be saturated with loving, yet definitive communication. Peace, Kimberly Ferm
I literally burst into tears listening to this..... I don't know if I can live with this burden we call "life". Everything in this song tells me it is possible but I don't feel strong enough. I wish I was that dying man... soon at peace.
@@juliasharp2857Hey! Thank you so much for finding my message and replying to it in such a supportive way! That's so sweet of you! I've just sent a little contribution to your rescue as a token of my gratitude. 🙂 Happy to see that this thing called "Humanity" does actually also work, sometimes. ;-) Cheers from overseas!
The Week (a UK magazine) alerted me to the album of the same name: after which, I tuned into this video - what a voice, what beauty and control. The album itself is a collection of laments about home and death which critics have said distil the essence of living through Covid-19.
As I've searched for a song to post on a video that acknowledged my sister's birthday, to honor what would have been her sixteenth birthday, I came across this gem. Ms Giddens, your voice..what a healing gift you so graciously share. If it's okay to share in comments..ill post it there... Knew this song was the right one as it raised the hair on the back of my neck and goosebumps. God bless and keep you and yours Wado( thank you)
I watched Vikings season 6 last night.. and then Lagertha's death..ohh how my heart breaks.. and now listening to this beautiful masterpiece. I can imagine this is sung at Lagertha's funeral. Thank you Ms. Rhiannon for sharing this with us!
Wow what a beautiful song. The beginning immediately captivated me. It reminds me of both Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie and Wayfaring Stranger. I have the last album you did and the one before that too, always amazing. But this song especially feels haunting these days.
Wow!!! Her voice pure as angels, nature, birds in flight! Plus perfect video. I just did a video of crows flying last week, so am taking this one personally. Thank you bless you always beautiful woman and soul.
I need to hear this so beautiful I am reminded of my dear friends who now are my ancestors.I don't believe in the afterlife ,but I would like to think they were called home back in the Earth and the stars to rest. I know every star once was alive. So as I look up at the night sky I remember they were called back to be star dust

My father died of Covid in March, and I heard this song soon after. I sang it at his funeral, the first time I'd ever sung in public.
jeez; i wouldve crapped myself if i had to sing live
My condolences for your loss.
What a beautiful way to honor your father. I pray you find great comfort in your memories of him.
